Europe's territorial waters are difficult, dangerous and expensive to monitor and patrol. An innovative fully
automated and autonomous system can help keep a watchful eye on the EU's coastlines for suspicious activity
at a fraction of the cost.

Funde d by the Se ve nth Frame work Programme (FP7), the 'Autonomous
maritime s urve illance s ys te m' (AMASS) proje ct has de s igne d a re liable ,
round-the -clock maritime monitoring s olution. This include s a flotation
platform, optronics , hydrophone s , communications , powe r manage me nt
and image e xploitation, as we ll as command and control.

vis ual and acous tic s e ns ors locate d offs hore to amas s compre he ns ive
data on move me nt and activitie s in Europe 's te rritorial wate rs . Whe n
AMASS de te cts a s us picious ve s s e l, it re lays image s dire ctly to a control ce ntre on s hore , e nabling coas tguards and
othe r s e rvice s to take s wift and appropriate action.
