WEEKLY REPORT

NAME; WITNESS MASSAWE

SECTION; AGROMET AND REMOTE SENSING
SUPERVISOR; MR HAULE

PRATICAL TRAINING WEEKLY REPORT 22/08/2016 TO 26/08/2016

SECTION: AGROMET AND REMONTING SENSING
INTRODUCTION
Agromet is the study of weather, use of weather and climate information to enhance
or expand agricultural activities. Agromet mainly involves the interaction of
meteorological and hydrological factors which encompasses horticulture, animal
husbandry and forestry.
The section begun by being introduced by the supervisor Mr.Haule to the stuff
members who work in the agromet section. The supervisor gave us a brief summary
about the agromet section on how it operates and its relationship with other section
on TMA (Tanzania meteorology agency). Agromet information can be used
effectively to alleviate some of major problems of mankind such as of economic and
industrial investment. Agromet includes the study of issues such as climate change,
water science, the cultivation of native plants and commercial interests of industrial
agriculture.
Also the supervisor gave us the explanation about the remote sensing how it
function. Remote sensing is the acquisition of information about a phenomenon
without making physical contact with on the site observation. Since in Tanzania
stations are not well distributed so the remote sensing help in determining the
weather of places which doesnt have the stations.
Also the supervisor gave us the regulations and duties, which we should follow while
in agromet section.
ASSIGNED TASKS AND OUTCOMES (22/08/2016 TO 26/08/2016)
The supervisor gave us the lecture on how the agromet and remote
sensing section operates. Also the relationship it has with other sections of
TMA. Whereby the supervisor explained about seasonal forecast and it
importance to the public. After the forecast the section designed bullet
about the weather where inside the bullet there is note like advisory note
to the public about the weather. The bullets are being sent to the public
and the bullet is of ten days.
Data entry to the data base of different station. Whereby the data are of
rainfall and soil temperature of different station, the station I filled the
data were Ilonga, Tumbi, Igeri, Naliendele and Mlingano.
Proof data those entered to the data base
Sorting and filling the inventory of rainfall data of different station such as
Hombolo and Igeri.
Highlighted extreme event when occurs for further follow-up.

In summary the section has increased my awareness about how important is

agromet section to the public through the activities conducted in the agromet
section. I gained more skills on how to enter data in the computer with more
efficiency so as to get proper interpretation of weather data.
CHALLENGES
Most of activities require the knowledge of computer and programs used are new to
people who visit the office to gain knowledge thus it becomes difficult to catch up
with the program. Also time is not enough to study all program on this section.

RECOMMENDATION
Agromet section should improve network systems so as to ensure accessibility of
data and information from different sources like internet explorer and Google. Also it
should designed seminars which will help the public understand well the information
which are given out and how to interpret them.

CONCLUSION
Agromet provides meteo-climatic services related to weather forecast for agriculture
sector. The main goal for the agromet is support the agriculture economy by proper
management of the sector by looking the weather trend. Agromet section has a
communication system and disseminate to potential customers, such as the
famsms for farmers.
