PLANNING TO STUDY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF JOHANNESBURG?

Dear Prospective Student,

Thank you for considering the University of Johannesburg (UJ) as a possible destination as you
embark upon an exciting journey into higher education. We have enclosed important information
(UJ Application Form, Career Prospectus and NSFAS Financial Aid application form) that will guide
you in making an informed choice when considering the various fields of study available.

UJ offers a dynamic academic environment known for forging new traditions in creating an inclusive
and engaged university. This is achieved through excellent technological and traditional university
programmes, as well as a comprehensive access policy that transcends traditional matriculation
exemption.

Overview of UJ’s application process

The limited availability of space means that UJ is only able to admit a limited number of first year
undergraduate students in its programmes. UJ strives to offer these places to students who best
demonstrate the potential to succeed in the particular programmes on offer. Applicants with the
highest APS and applicable Grade 12 subject scores will therefore receive priority in the allocation
of the available spaces.

The planned intake of undergraduate first year students is in accordance with the enrolment plan
that was approved by the Department of Higher Education and Training for UJ.

It is important to note that compliance with the minimum entrance requirements does not guarantee
a study place at UJ. Applications that comply with the minimum faculty requirements (APS and
module-specific requirements), and that are received during the dedicated application period,
as stipulated on the Application Form, will be conditionally selected. Selection remains subject to
final Grade 12 academic performance and depending on space availability based on the
approved enrolment plan of the relevant faculty and the University.

Please note that if you only manage to gain the required minimum scores indicated for each of the
individual subjects you will fail to achieve even the lowest acceptable APS total score. Late
eligible applications are placed on waiting lists for later consideration where appropriate.

This is in accordance with the selection process that was approved by the Department of Higher
Education and Training. The cycle of application – selection – registration can only proceed
provided all the requirements set out in this letter and as publicised in the Career Prospectus and
the UJ website have been fulfilled.
