VI. Background/Rationale:
Adolescents, apart from being smart and capable, sometimes due to lack of inculcated
information, they tend to have poor decision-making capabilities making them prone to the
different risky behaviours. Dealing with the youth is a challenge yet equally gratifying aspect
of health care.
The 2002 Young and Adult Fertility and Sexuality Survey showed a comparative data from
1994-2003 that among 15-24 years old, smoking increased by 23%; drinking increased by

irresponsibly. The youth are becoming more and more sexually active thus increasing the
incidence of unwanted pregnancy, STI/HIV cases, abortion leading to a higher rate of
maternal and infant mortality.
It is hope that Project TEENAGE NINJA will help them be sufficiently equipped with
knowledge in reproductive health and healthy lifestyle, armouring them in combating the
different health threats that may arise while on the process of growth and development thus
improving their quality of life.
We want them to be confident; we want them to be empowered.
