History becomes a nations mirror.

To find flaws so as to remedy them, the nation

should have the courage to look into the mirror. There should be courage to accept
the reflection, however grotesque. It is only then that the progressive path towards
improvement can be sought. But then the mirror must be true, free of distortion and
flattering magnification. Likewise, history, if it is to serve as the nations mirror, has
to be truthful and objective. So, over here India shouldnt ignore its defense
conditions. In the era of global conflicts, cross border threats, the security of a
country is at the top most priority level and in every welfare state, government acts
like an umbrella to shed and protect their subjects against invasion and aggression
and help them to live peacefully and blithely.
Before independence India was ruled by the British or is considered as jewel in the
crown of the British Empire. The Indian army was the principal army of India before
independence from the United Kingdom in 1947. It was responsible for the defense
of both the British India and the princely states. The Indian army and defense was
all in the hands of British Empire completely. When India got independence the
eminent fighters thought to take an initiation.
It is indeed a sad commentary that 64 years after independence the worlds second
fastest growing economy, one of the highest end user of defense equipment, a
country having the worlds third largest pool of technical manpower and scientific
talent and with a track record of indigenously excelling in high end technologies of
space, nuclear, information technology etc., is still dependent on foreign sources to
meet 70% of its defense requirements. India had very little national industry after
independence and most military weapons and equipment were of British make. It
was after suffering a setback in the Sino-Indian War (1962), that the Government of
India took up a resolve to develop an effective production base. A good beginning
has been made. The Government of India must be appreciated for formulating the
Defense Procurement Procedure, a dynamic document that has shown incredible
improvement since inceptions.
The Phrase SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE perfectly applies on India after
Independence as Indias capital acquisition had started to grow which started with
increasing and making of aircrafts, aero engine , radars , artillery guns , heavy and
medium vehicles , naval vessels though it amounted less but it was a huge gain to
the Indian economy after the independence because all this had lead India grow on
its own feet and hardwork .India had started to gain self- reliance in the defense
after independence .
The self-reliance model adopted in practice by India can best be described as one
that fundamentally relied on diversification in the sources of weapons and military
technology, while working on establishing and expanding the indigenous base for
design, development, and manufacture of weapons and equipment.
