ABSTRACT:

WHAT IS CHARTENNA?

Smartphone, the device which changed the whole world.

Where ever you go whatever the place Smartphone
became a compulsory object. Rather we calling it an
object we can call it an important organ of a human.
Smartphones helps us in abundant ways but the major
drawback of it is in charge of its battery. Just think when
you are in need of your Smartphone and you see your
battery is about to dead, there is nothing worst situation
than your battery charging. When I faced these types of
situations I got up with an idea of having an inbuilt
charger in my Smartphone. Here I present
CHARTENNA the concept of charging your mobile
whenever you need.

A CHARTENNA is an antenna which is used in dual

mode in Smartphone. First mode of CHARTENNA is to
receive the electromagnetic signals while we are using
our Smartphone. While we are in call it should receive
and transmit the audio signals. And during the usage of
GPRS it should receive and transmit the data.

INTRODUCTION:

The second mode of CHARTENNA is to charge the

battery of our Smartphone. When the battery level of
Smartphone reaches to its minimum level this
CHARTENNA will automatically starts charging the
battery. So that we can charge our battery whenever we
are in need of charging to our Smartphone.
The following image shows the antenna in a Smartphone

An antenna is an electrical device which converts

electric power into radio waves and vice versa. Antennas
are essential component for all equipments that uses
radio waves. The whole wireless communication is
based on antennas and electromagnetic waves.
By using antennas William C. Brown thought of
transmitting power to houses through wireless
transmission and those antennas are named as
RECTENNAS which means a rectifying antenna which
converts the electromagnetic waves into DC electricity.
In CHARTENNA we are going to use methodology of
RECTENNA in order to produce DC power to the
Smartphone.
In this paper Im going to explain about the following

Advantages

CONSTRUCTION:
As CHARTENNA is the combination of charger and
antenna in mobile phone. The concept of CHARTENNA
depends on the concept of RECTENNA.
So let us see how this CHARTENNA is constructed
using the concept of rectenna. The following diagram
shows you the construction of rectenna.

using microwaves there should be a sensor to detect the

microwaves
As rectenna works under the range of microwaves but
the mobile operators in India operating at the frequency
of 900MHz to 1800MHz for GSM system for mobile
communication.

This rectenna contains an antenna attached to rectifying

diodes through filters and matching circuits. The
rectifying diodes convert the received electromagnetic
waves into dc voltage.

When CHARTENNA senses the level of battery and

when the battery reaches to its minimum range its starts
using electromagnetic waves which are received by the
mobile and then charges its battery.

The above image shows you construction of a

CHARTENNA. This system also contains same as the
parts of the rectenna but it includes the storage and
control system. Where the storage helps to save the DC
electricity and the controller helps the CHARTENNA to
work in dual mode.

WORKING OF CHARTENNA:
The microwave generator generates the required
microwave range. An electrical current passes through
the antenna inducing a magnetic field, which oscillates
at a given frequency. The variations in the current create
slight variations in the radio frequency. These radio
waves radiates from the antenna as a beam according to
the design of antenna.
We have to add a sensor and rectenna at the receiver
side. The rectenna actually converts the microwaves into
the DC power. As we are going to charge the phone

ADVANTAGES

Wireless methods are always advantageous than

cumbersome, untidy wiry networks.

You can have a lot of options if the facility

of wireless charging of mobile phones is somehow
implemented.

Charge the phone by Bluetooth so low risk of

electrical shock or shorting.

The need of different type of chargers by
different manufacturers is totally eliminated.

DISADVANTAGES

The transmitter and receiver also should be very

powerful devices as the distance increases the charging
is very slower.

Wireless transmission of the energy causes

some drastic effects to human body, because of its
radiation.
It is more costly practical possibilities are not yet
applicable in this field.

CONCLUSION:

Atmospheric Attenuation of Microwave

Thus this paper successfully shows a novel method of

using the power of the microwave to charge the mobile
phones without the use of wired chargers. A novel use of
the rectenna and a sensor in a mobile phone could
provide a new dimension in the revelation of mobile
phone.
