2 Strategic Planning
Candidates facilitate the design, development, implementation, communication, and evaluation
of technology-infused strategic plans. (PSC 1.2/ISTE 1b)
Reflection
The Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) Analysis was developed in
order to determine the current level of technology integration at a private elementary school. As
an individual class assignment, I wrote the SWOT report on my own; however, I collaborated
with various stakeholders in order to compile the data I needed to conduct the analysis. The
SWOT Analysis provided specific recommendations and plans to improve based on the results
that were synthesized from various data sources in conjunction with the school data team. This
SWOT Analysis artifact clearly shows my ability to define the strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities, and threats that currently impacted the success of technology integration in the
school.
The Standard 1.2 on Strategic Planning, as stated above this reflection, required that I
facilitate technology integration plans from the beginning of the process as well as the
assessment process by designing, developing, implementing, communicating, and evaluating.
First of all, the designing process required that I collaborate with various members of the faculty
and administration to determine which data sources we should use, assemble them, and analyze
the data sources to assist in the SWOT development process. The online ISTE Lead & Transform
Diagnostic Tool (2016) was used to determine the current level of technology integration in the
school. This tool proved to be helpful in the designing process as we completed the lengthy data
analysis needed to develop a plan to increase technology integration at the school. Meetings with

other stakeholders such as administrators, families, and students also referenced the findings
within the SWOT analysis and its recommendation for improvement. Continuing communication
with all stakeholders proved to be a key to the success of the SWOT analysis and the changes
and opportunities it presented to stakeholders. For example, the implementation phase was
conducted through the inclusion of the SWOT analysis findings and recommendations in all of
the professional development trainings in order to clearly communicate the finds with
stakeholders. These efforts to communicate fully with stakeholders and bring them into the
implementation progress as a joint owner of the schools success proved to priceless in hindsight.
Through the implementation of the SWOT Analysis recommendations for improvement and
opportunities to pursue, the school was able to assess its current progress towards fulfilling the
goals outlined in ISTEs Essential Conditions (ISTE, 2016) and increase the amount of
opportunities it pursued as a whole regarding technology use.
Through the process of completing the SWOT Analysis, I gained valuable information and
techniques in determining a schools current level of technology integration. The collaboration
with stakeholders, especially members of the schools data team proved to be the most valuable
resource throughout the analysis process. In the future, I will begin the data designing,
administering, and compiling process early to give us plenty of time to conduct a more thorough
SWOT. Combining high standards of data collection with the best research-based practices
would be the most effective way to conduct a SWOT Analysis. This would be the only thing I
would change next time. I would include a lot of relevant research within the SWOT to give it
weight.
The SWOT Analysis was an important tool for informing the current progress towards
visionary and concrete goals. The analysis informed all stakeholders on the various aspects of

technology integration that the school could celebrate as well as parts that needed work. The
SWOT opened the eyes of stakeholders to the opportunities to improve, and the threats provided
the type of reality check that was needed to ensure immediate action. Funding was especially
impacted by the SWOT Analysis because the stakeholders were able to easily visualize and
understand the benefits and negative outcomes of the tech-integration plan. The tracking of the
success of the SWOT Analysis was done through post-surveys and analysis of academic
performance over time. The data collection team developed a follow-up plan to measure the
progress of technology integration by tracking the results of changes made based on the SWOT.
The school gained a valuable strategic plan for promoting digital citizenship, ensuring equitable
access, and using technology in daily learning.
