2.3 Important Notes for the Incorporation of

Patchsets
WARNING
The following important notes must be regarded:

Before executing this procedure the delivered patch documentation must be read
to consider possible special cases of patch incorporation (e.g. patch to clear fault
in test program). The patch documentation also contains information about the
effects of the patches.
All previous patch revisions have had to be inserted successfully.
Only patches that have been released by the responsible Siemens departments
may be incorporated. Corrections prepared by the system personnel at the site of
the system are not allowed!
Patch incorporation is to be done under low call processing load.
During patch incorporation no configuration commands for CCNC, LTG, and CP

should be executed.
Normally patch files contain the command for increasing the APS version number
by 1.
The incorporation instruction, delivered with the patchset are to be followed

strictly.

2.4 Overview of Tool Supported Elements

The incorporation of patches can be executed local with patch supply on MOD/MTD
or remote from OMC-S using Autopatch (automated patch supply).
The Autopatch procedure in the OMC-S allows
fast distribution of software corrections using electronic media,
incorporation of software corrections without presence of staff in the network

element,
reliable monitoring of the patch distribution.
Prerequisites of the Autopatch procedure are described in UMN:Autopatch. The

tasks of this patch software procedure are identical for patching with or without
Autopatch.

Refers to a Primary Master File, a control file for incorporating patches. All Master
Files are called and executed one after the other when this file is executed.
E.g.: PF.DBP21.K31.N07
DBP21 = system version designation
K31 = patch status of installation as of time of delivery to customer
N07 = patch set name
MF.***...
Refers to a Master File. Master Files are control files for incorporating patches.
They cause the corresponding patches to be transferred and incorporated to the
selected NE.
E.g.: MF.DBP21.V31308
PA.***...
Refers to a patch file. These files contain the actual software correction, i.e. the
code that is incorporated in the software on the NE.
E.g.: PA.A30323L2Z.V0001
A30323L2Z.V0001 = Patchname
PD.***...
Refers to files within a patch set that contain the incorporation instructions to be
followed. Before a patch set in incorporated, they are automatically displayed. If
such a file is empty, this means no special measures have to be taken.
E.g.: PD.DBP21.K31.PN07
<listname>.txt
This file contains all files of a patch set (patches, master files, primary master files)
that are written to a file in alphabetical order. The contents of this collective file
can be displayed with the Display function.

*.dps
This extension refers to patch sets that still have to be imported and contain the
actual software corrections. Files supplied by CASINO also have this ending, but
can also contain several patch sets that are to be imported.
*.bhw
Refers to a text file with information required for operating the system. After
importation, these files are located in the /usr/akusw/bhw directory.
basis.unl
Refers to basic files that contain information on the connected NEs and the patch
status of the installation as of the time of delivery to the customer.
Other Windows
*.sid
Status and inventory data files which contain information on the installation, such
as how they can be called via available lists. They are used for forwarding this
information to the super ordinate service level.
*.ifh
Refers to an error symptom file. In the case of an NE failure, these files are
generated directly at the NE and can be forwarded to a super ordinate service
level with the help of AutoPatch.
