AfterJobs'departure,theMacintoshproductlineunderwentasteadychangeoffocustohigherpricepoints,theso
called"highrightpolicy"namedforthepositiononachartofpricevs.profits.Jobshadarguedthecompany
shouldproduceproductsaimedattheconsumermarketandaimedfora$1000pricefortheMacintosh,whichthey
wereunabletomeet.Newermodelssellingathigherpricepointsofferedhigherprofitmargin,andappearedto
havenoeffectontotalsalesaspoweruserssnappedupeveryincreaseinpower.Althoughsomeworriedabout

thehighendQuadra,themidrangeCentrisline,andtheillfatedPerforma

Applealsoexperimentedwithanumberofotherunsuccessfulconsumer

beingafinancialflopatthetimeof

In1994,ApplealliedwithIBMandMotorolaintheAIMalliancewiththe
goalofcreatinganewcomputingplatform(thePowerPCReference

TheNeXTdealwasfinalizedonFebruary9,1997,[63]bringingJobs
