1.0 START-UP PROCESS:

1. Check the Inlet parameters of the Inlet Sewage.
2. Check if there is sufficient sewage in the collection tank. If the Sewage is insufficient, STP cant
work properly. Sewage should be minimum 30% of Plant capacity.
3. Before Starting the raw sewage transfer pump, open the Valve.

2.0 STARTUP OF PLANT:

2.1 Raw Sewage Transfer pump
1. For starting the Pump, turn on the Switch located on the Electric Control Panel (ECP). After Starting,
check the Pressure Gauge for discharge Pressure to check that the pump is lifting water which is
used to transfer the sewage from collection tank to aeration tank
2. Adjust the valve to regulate the desired flow.
3. Check the sewage level in the aeration tank. Fill the tank till 30% of the volume.

2.2 Start of Aeration Process

4. Start the blower from the ECP after checking oil level and open the valve so that the air flows to the
aeration tank.
5. Check the aeration in the aeration tank to confirm that the diffusers are working fine. In case if the
water is not getting agitated, kindly check the valve of the blower again.

6. Maintain this level till for about 12 to 15hrs time and then again fill the aeration tank to 75% of the
volume by switching on the raw sewage transfer pump from ECP.
7. Maintain this level for about 12 hrs to 15 hrs time and again after that, fill the aeration tank to free
board level.
8. Keep the water maintained in the aeration tank for another 24 hrs.
9. Take a beaker/Jar and collect the water sample from aeration tank and check the solid sludge
settling time. Usually it should be less than 45 mins.
10.
If the settlement time of the sludge comes down to less than 30 mins and with good clarity of
water, then switch on the raw sewage transfer pump and overflow the aeration tank. If the
settlement time is more, kindly maintain the retention time for next 12 hrs in aeration tank and
check the sample again till, we get the result.
The overflow from the aeration tank is then transferred to tube settler where the heavy sludge
particles would settle down. When the level of tube settler reaches about 30 % 50%. Open the
valve

for aeration tank from tube settler.

Switch off the raw sewage transfer pump.
Start the recirculation pump and maintain it for 12 to 15 hrs time.
Take the sample from aeration tank and check the quality for settling of solids. The MLSS

should be atleast 1500 mg/l by this time period. If the sample quality is good then proceed ahead
otherwise, increase the level of tube settler by switching on the raw sewage transfer pump to 75%
and keep recirculation pump on to the aeration tank for next 12 hrs. Repeat the procedure till
desired quality is achieved.
14.
Keep checking the level of the settled sludge in the aeration tank. It is better to maintain it in
between 25% to 45% by doing the jar test.

2.3 Recirculation Process

15.
16.

Tube settler is used to settle the Sludge and to flow the clarified water to the later process
Start the raw sewage transfer pump and keep it running till the overflow from Tube settler to

chlorine contact tank/holding tank happens.

17.
The recirculation pump should run for about 6 to 12 hrs depending on the sludge quantity. If
the water in the tube settler starts turning black, then the frequency and the time period of the
recircuation pump needs to be increased.
18.
After 8 to 15 days of time the sludge collected in the tube settler needs to be discarded. For
the same, close the valve to the aeraton tank and open the valve for the sludge holding tank.
Check the level of disinfection chemical in the chlorine tank.
19.
After Settling Process, Activated Sludge in the Bottom place is transferred with the Help of
Sludge Recirculation Pump. And remaining water transferred in the Holding tank via overflow.
20.
If we want to transfer Activated Sludge in the Sludge Handling system, Open the Valve
between the Return Circulation pump and Sludge Handling system and then turn on the Pump from
ECP. Sludge Recirculation Pump run on the Basis of Activated Sludge. And then Turn off the Pump
after Finishing the transfer of Activated Sludge.

2.4 Disinfection System

21.

After Overflowing the tube settler, the water is transferred into the Holding Tank. The Chlorine

is used for disinfection. We have to dose 2-3 kg per day so have to Set the dosing Pump at certain
level 0 5 LPH.
22.
Start the disinfection system from ECP (if provided) by dosing the chemicals in the chlorine
contact tank/holding tank.

3.0 TERTIARY PROCESS:

1. After Filling the Holding tank upto minimum of 40% of the volume, we have to start Filteration
system.
2. Fill the vessel with water to cover media. Flush the system & pipeline with water with starting raw
water pump/backwash pump & drain it giving backwash for one hour.
3. Wait for 10 minutes and then Start Filter Feed pump/backwash pump after setting multiport valve
into backwash mode& air vent valve & remove air from the vessel.
4. Close down air vent valve & keep valve in backwash mode.
5. Adjust the Filter Feed pump for backwash flow, which is generally recommended 1.5 to 2 times that
of service flow or refer P&ID for the flow design.
6. Backwash should be continued till effluent is completely clear from the service cycle.

7. Now switch off Filter Feed pump, close backwash valve & open service inlet by setting valve on
service mode & open air vent valve.
8. Again Start Filter Feed pump / backwash pump & remove air from the vessel.
9. Set the valve into rinse mode & close air vent valve after water flow comes out from air vent pipe in
full flow.
10.
Now set the valve into service mode and the system would be ready to be used.
11.
Ensure water quality at inlet & output from outlet & take unit in Service cycle.
12.
Record Input & Output quality of the unit.
13.
If the Quality is good and within the desired parameters then water is transferred to the
Treated Water tank.

Please note: The backwash should be done whenever the inlet and outlet pressure of the PFS or ACF is more
than 0.7 bar pressure irrespective of the service time. The backwash should be done till the differential
pressure reduces to regular pressure.
