Title
Method statement for Soil Investigation
Purpose
To obtain information on the physical properties of soil and rock around a site to design
earthworks and foundations for proposed structures and for repair of distress to earthworks
and structures caused by subsurface conditions.

III.

Scope
The scope of the project is summarized as follows:
Soil boring, field testing and carrying out sufficient in-situ testing and sampling.
Laboratory testing of obtained samples to determine the properties of the subsoil.
Determination of geotechnical parameters required for foundation analyses.
Carrying out engineering analyses for foundation design.

IV.

Submittals
Submit the following in accordance with conditions of the contract and specification:
Complete detailed soil investigation program in accordance with latest Saudi code of
practice for soil mechanics and foundations.
Complete description and details of the drilling equipment
General layout of the project indicating the exact location of boreholes to be drilled
and their purposed depths
Complete description of laboratory testing program to be performed by the
contractor and technical description of laboratory test to be conducted.
A complete final geotechnical report

Safety and Health Requirements
A. All employees/workers shall be provided with basic personal protection equipment
(PPE).
B. All workers shall be provided with proper tools and equipment to execute the work
safely.
C. Trained operators shall be engaged to operate the equipment.
D. All works shall comply with safety procedure or instruction as set in out in project Safety
Plan and Municipality rules and regulation.

Location of boreholes
Drill boreholes at location as indicated on shop drawings approved by the engineer.
And as per approved General layout of the project indicating the exact location of
boreholes to be drilled and their purposed depths.
Drilling, Sampling and Laboratory Testing
Drilling procedure, sampling and laboratory testing shall be in accordance to the
approved submittals for complete detailed soil investigation program and as per
specification.
Final Geotechnical Report
A. The professional geotechnical engineer shall performed and supervised the geotechnical
investigation and reporting
B. The final comprehensive geotechnical report based on conducted soil investigation and
prepared by the professional geotechnical engineer shall be submitted to ALARGAN. The
report shall include, but not limited to the following:
Borehole layouts
Logs of borings drilled
Geotechnical cross-sections
Laboratory test reports of conducted tests
Geotechnical analysis for different type of foundation
Design of shoring and bracing
Design of dewatering system
Parameters regarding retaining walls
Type of concrete and cement
Insulation and drainage
Instrumentation program
Recommendations
