Results
Objective structured clinical examination performance was similar across
registered nurses and students (mean 54% and 49%); however, Team
Emergency Assessment Measure scores differed significantly between the
two groups (57% vs 38%, t = 6.841, p < 0.01). In both groups, there was a
correlation between technical (Objective Structured Clinical Examination)
and nontechnical (Team Emergency Assessment Measure) scores for the
respiratory distress scenario (student teams: r=0.530, p=0.004, registered
nurse teams r=0.903, p<0.01) and hypovolaemia scenario (student teams:
r=0.534, p=0.02, registered nurse teams: r=0.535, p=0.049). Themes
generated from the analysis of the combined quantitative and qualitative
data were as follows: (1) leadership and followership behaviors; (2) helpseeking behaviors; (3) reliance on previous experience; (4) fixation on a
single detail; and (5) team support.

Results
The difference in visual analog scale scores between the two groups
before the dressing change was not statistically significant (t=0.196,
p>0.05), but the scores became statistically significant after the dressing
change (t=-30.792, p<0.01). The correlation between the sense of
involvement in a virtual environment and pain level during the dressing
was statistically significant (R2=0.5538, p<0.05).

Results
Although, as previously reported, the intervention had no impact on the
primary outcome of emergency department revisits, the present study
demonstrated a significant positive effect on patients perceived continuity
of care (p=.033), self-care capacities (p=.037), anxiety (p=.007) and
depressive symptoms (p=.043), and the illness perceptions treatment control
subscale (p=.037). No differences were found for other illness perception
subscales or medication adherence (all p's>.05).

Repeated measures ANOVA with Bonferroni correction demonstrated that


significantly less skin injury was detected in the rotation interface group
when compared to both mask and prong groups. In the final stepwise
regression model (F=11.51; R2=0.221; p=0.006) significant predictors of skin
injury included number of days on nasal CPAP (p<0.001) and current mean
post menstrual age (p=0.006). Reduced nasal injury was demonstrated
using rotating mask/prong nasal interfaces. Future best practices must
include precise selection of device size, developmental and CPAP device
positioning with focused skin assessment including rapid intervention for
skin injury
