SCHOOL DISASTER RISK

REDUCTION AND
MANAGEMENT PLAN
STO. DOMINGO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
2017 - 2019

Message from the School

Chairperson
In school learners are the most important
individual to be informed to the effect of
climate change and natural disaster. They are
the center of all the programs and projects
operated in school. School personnel should
make 100 percent assurance that they are
well-secured and protected. But it doesnt
mean that they cannot find any measures to
become safe and help others in time of need.
They should be trained how to be prepared
and knowledgeable when disasters rescues.
With our countrys exposure to natural
disaster, an alternative response and
preparedness was the foremost priority of the
government and has come up with the school
manual contingency planning. This manual
will help the school improve the readiness to
any emergency situation. This may also serve
in planning for disaster that may likely bring
an enormous impact on children as well as on
peoples lives and Taking the challenge of
local government units against an equivocal
damage and destruction caused by natural
calamity SDRRMC was developed with intense
coordination of the risk which pose disaster
for Sto. Domingo Elementary School.

BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE

PROFILE OF THE SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY

Community Profile

At the easternmost part of Batangas City lies the

mountainous Barangay of Sto. Domingo. It is nineteen kilometers
away from the city proper. Its early residents occupied a cluster
houses in an area called suha, the center of the Barangay.
Other sitios sprang around are become seven. These were
tagalog names such as suha from fruit, Bakis from a native craft,
Bungahan from fruitful trees, Kawongan from a palm tree, Tulo
from a spring and Pinagkalabungan, the sound from a serene far
place. Mention of Sto. Domingo evokes many other things. They
are native subli, mining, spring and picturesque scenic view of
Batangas City.
Sto. Domingo, a highland place is mostly covered with trees
like coconuts, oranges, banana, mangoes. Its product is sold by
the residents for a living.
Important industries are farming and embroidery. Skillful
smackers of baby dresses are found here. Cattle hogs are raised.
The Barangay is a developing one. Its road is cemented. It
has a small Barangay Hall, a Health Center and a Chapel. Pedro Z.
De Torres is the Barangay Captain.

Socio- Cultural
Old costumes, traditions and beliefs are still considered by
the barangay people as pattern in their everyday living. They
believe that the following these help them greatly toward the
achievement of their goals in life.

Bayanihan system is one of the customs/traditions mostly

practiced by people such as kasalan. binyagan wherein
making of kalamay and suman is always there and in building
houses. Some of the workers do not receive, any payment for the
labor they have rendered. They offer their work voluntarily for the
belief that No Man is an Island and this is always proven.
Bayanihan to them means offering help/labor without
expecting payment in return as part of their pakikisama. They
expect that Bayanihan system will be practices continuously for
the success and good relationship of people in the community.

History of The School

Sto. Domingo Elementary School was a part of Conde

Itaas Elementary School up to late 1950s Its detachment
from Conde Itaas Elementary School was an offshoot
disagreement of two groups of personel.
The disagreement stemmed in the construction of
new Elementary School building authorities eventually
settled the incident and ice creation of having their own
Elementary School was suggested. The late congressman
N. Babao authored the enactment of Republic Act. No.
2123, creating the new elementary school.
Mr. Anianas and Consuelo Aclan donated one hectare
of land. With the help of all Brgy. Officials and school
personnel the school was erected at Sitio Suha, the
center of the Barangay.

Sto. Domingo Elementary School has a total land

area of 1 hectare. It is composed of a officer in charge,
Mrs Merlinda C. Basa. Six (6) teachers, One (1)

Kindergarten Teacher and One (1) Utility Worker. It has 7

classrooms and one insufficient rooms to be used.
With the schools goal of going basic quality
education, teachers, administrator and stakeholders are
working together for the continuous improvement of
education.
In spite of its distance to city proper which is the
center of educational system, teachers are trying their
best to participate on the different programs launched by
DepEd. They are open-minded and always willing to
support in any DepEds projects so these projects are
really implemented.
