KEY NOTES
It is the start of a new year and we have already received complaints from
surrounding villas, who have been unable to access their driveways due to
parked cars. Parents have also come into the school to say that their cars
have been blocked in.
We have a drop off system at the front and back gates. Parents can safely
drop their children on the pavement outside the school, allowing them to
walk into school without having to cross any busy roads.
The drop off zones are not parking zones, do not leave your vehicle in
the drop off zone.
Keep the pedestrian crossings free, do not park on them.
Please ensure that all children wear their seat belts in vehicles.
To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all, please follow the above parking
rules.

World Peace Day 2016
Last Wednesday we held an extremely exciting event at JPS. It was
World Peace Day and for the 3rd consecutive year we were very honoured
to be the UAE ambassadors for an event called One Choir One Day. This
involved all the children in Years 3-6 learning a special song to promote
World Peace. We had a professional band of musicians in on the day to
perform the song with the children, this really enhanced the performance
and was fabulous to hear. The song, called Down By The Riverside was
then performed in the main hall and filmed for the One Choir One Day
website. We had reporters in from local news and radio stations. The
event was then broadcast on the Dubai Eye radio station that evening,
including interviews from some of our students. It was a fantastic
afternoon with all the children performing and behaving fantastically. The
reporters who attended were blown away and thoroughly enjoyed the
performance. Heres some pictures of the children in action!

French Masters: celebrating our JPS diversity!
Last week saw a very special celebration take place here at school. On Thursday a
small fte was held with our French native speaking children, and the senior
leadership team, in attendance. During the ceremony, Mme. Villeneuve, Mme.
Crossland and Mme. Giard presented the children with a French VIP Master Pass.
The aim of this scheme is to recognise and utilise the fabulous resource we have
in class with our French speaking children, whilst giving them an opportunity to
stretch their own knowledge base and use 21st century skills such as leading,
collaborating, critical thinking and problem solving. Who better to aid with
pronunciation or suggest ideas to our new learners, than those who use that
language every day? Mme. Marchbanks, French Department Assistant, commented
on the enthusiasm of the children. They act as our special eyes and ears and it is
lovely to see the children so excited to be supporting and celebrating the
wonderful language diversity here at JPS!. Bravo!

JPS NEWS
Dear Parents
I am writing to invite you to become active participants in an exciting team here at GEMS Jumeirah
Primary School. This year we will be continuing the work of our Parental Engagement Council, a group of
parents like you, who play a vital role in the continuing developments at JPS.
Parents often ask us: What is my child learning?, How do I know hes learning? and What can I do to
help?
Good parental engagement strategies should help you answer all of these questions.
We believe that our parents have certain rights related to their childrens education:
Access to know what actions the school intends to take to improve
The ability to contribute to the schools development and improvement
Because we believe in these rights, we would like to encourage parents to participate in our established
Parental Engagement Council.
We would like you to:
Consult on the School Development Plan with Staff and Children
Work alongside school on initiatives
Act as a Parental Support to other Parents
Liaise with appropriate school leaders
If you are interested in finding out more information regarding your potential involvement in our strategic
planning please come along for an Introductory Meeting on Wednesday November 2nd 2016 in our
Meeting Room at 1pm. This will be chance to hear a little more detail about our plans and to find out how
you can be involved. In order that we can best provide for this meeting please RSVP by emailing
a.christie_jps@gemsedu.com. Only those responding directly will be on a list held at reception that day
to ensure safety of all here at JPS. If you are a current council member please can you still email me to
ensure your place.
If you have any queries please email a.christie_jps@gemsedu.com
Kind Regards
Helen Green
(Parental Council and Governance and Gifted and Talented Leader).
