Companys Background Info:
Dr Harry Moraes, who hails from the sub-continent of India and has spent a major part of
his life in Dubai, founded Fabtech Group, of which Fabtech International is part, and chairs both.
Fabtech has its hands into many things, and the orders keep pouring from all corners of
the world including the most advanced markets. Fabtech has developed a reputation for
delivering on time some of the most complex and sophisticated projects. (Building rigs is a
challenging proposition and requires sound engineering technology. We work round the clock to
accomplish the objective on hand within the specified timeframe Quote from Moraes)

Products that Fabtech manufactures for the oil field industry include Degassers, Mud
Tanks, Day Tanks, Dolleys, Mud Agitators, Primary Agitators, Pressure Manifolds, Stand Pipe
Manifolds, Pipe Spools, Dosing Units, Shale Shakers, BOP handling systems, Explosion-proof
Gas Extractor Systems, Piping and Accessories for Oil Drilling, Production Rigs and Platforms.
The company also manufactures a range of items for the food and chemical industry and cement
plants as well as several kinds of cranes and other material handling equipment.
It also offers support services such as feasibility studies, technical consultancy and machinery
installation.
Its capabilities in the oilfield sector include most draw works, substructure
refurbishment and new construction, mud tank system design and construction, explosion-proof
steel control rooms; crane, walkway and platform steel construction and drill pipe certification.
The list goes on to include specialty skid design and fabrication, 24/7 remote-site digital
wireless solutions; wellsite/wellhead flow monitoring technology and wellhead oil concentration
technology solutions.
In refinery industrial plant systems, its capabilities cover site surveys and engineering
studies; design, fabrication, testing, installation and commissioning; design and fabrication of
pressure vessels and steel structures; pipeline supply and installation; oil storage tanks; flow
meters, pumps and terminal facilities and refinery communications network design and
installation.
In the field of marine terminal and shiploading facilities, Fabtech is adept at cranes and
ship loader/unloader design and construction; steel pipe fabrication; steel conveyors, piping and
storage tank design and construction, and design and construction of steel modules.
Rigs are one of Fabtechs great specialities. The company manufactures all rigs and
derricks in association with Houston (USA)-based National Oilwell.
The company also built more than 60 gas separator skids and gas compressor skids for
Yemen and Sudan and glycol separation skids for Australia, a complete gas metering skid for
Sudan and a complete scavanger vessel for high-pressure H2S for Canada. It built 39 vessels for
gas compressor and separation skids and manufactured and delivered six shiploaders to Iran and
the UAE and is presently manufacturing two ship loaders - Portalino and Portalino Combi for
Sri Lanka and Madagaskar.
The company is also a specialist in making cranes and there have been times when
Fabtech was producing at the rate of one EOT crane a day at its yard which happens to occupy
the largest area in the free zone at 206,000 sq m. (Fabtechs facilities at Jebel Ali cover 206,000
sq m, the largest manufacturing spread in the free zone.)
The company has formed strategic partnerships with leading IT firms for integrating
emerging information technologies with its fabricating experience.
Fabtech also specialises in full-system fuel tanks and has been contracted to build some
of these (portable and stationary) for an Iraqi party.
The company also built ship loading and unloading systems for Korea, Iraq and Iran
and pressure vessels for Russia and Canada.

The company is also engaged in welding and laying rails for container cranes and the
manufacture of EOT cranes on an average of one per day.
Highlighted Achievement:
In 2005, Fabtech was in the international spotlight for fabricating the worlds largest onshore
rig, a structure it built for a Kuwaiti company. The rig was built in collaboration with Houstonbased National Oilwell, said Chairman of Fabtech International Ltd Dr Harry Moraes. The rig,
designed by the US Company, was shipped to Kuwait Drilling Company which had
commissioned its construction. Rig was also one of the biggest rigs of any kind to be built
anywhere in the world and it was completed in a record period of four months.
Quotes from Dr Moraes:
At Fabtech we carefully listen to our clients requirements and then offer cost-effective
solutions customised to meet their needs and budgets without compromising on quality, says Dr
Moraes.
We have also refurbished 17 land rigs and are the only one in this Gulf to undertake
complete construction of the rig, said Dr Moraes. Very soon we will be the only one doing
this.
(Note: Rigs are built in the US, Canada, Russia, China, Norway, the UK and France, but many
of the yards in the West are finding it unfeasible to continue in the business because labour costs
run high, particularly as it takes several months to complete projects. The rising cost of land for
production facilities is also a deterrent.)
The Fabtech chief said his facility had been booked up to 2008, but would accept special
or strategic jobs. (This quote was from 2004, possibly indicating that his company must be really
sought-after, although I do not have enough knowledge of the industry if it is the norm
companies to be booked solid 4 years in advance.)
About future projects, Dr. Moraes said Fabtech was diversifying into the manufacture of
air conditioning systems that would not need electricity.
Fabtech will also be manufacturing cryogenic vessels, the first of their kind in the Gulf,
and steel gratings for offshore use (from 2004 article).
Im always pursuing new ideas. I want to be ahead of the competition, said Dr.
Moraes.
