work and design.

Aims
3. To develop students understanding of their
project management processes for the module.
4. To introduce the element of documentation of
processes in the form of blogs.

Learning & Teaching Strategy

Students will be introduced to the processes of presenting work
through a variety of formats through practical workshops.
Students will develop their individual Showreels and CVs through a
series of show and tell sessions.
Towards the end of the semester students will have a critical
presentation which will enable them to gauge feedback on their work
and progress.

in an agreed, pitched and appropriate format to highly professional
standards.

accompanying blog.

medium.

Business Card intended for their career path after graduation.

Portfolio/Showreel
The words portfolio or showreel in this unit mean the same thing.
Each industry will have a different word:
Film Industry - showreel - format of film clips on a website
Digital - portfolio - format of visual elements on a website
By researching your industry you will be able to know the correct
terminology.

Topics Covered
1.Strategies for enabling students to demonstrate their work in a
Portfolio/Showreel.
2.Strategy for shaping portfolios/showreels to meet the
requirements of a variety of prospective employers.
3.Strategy for presentations/packaging/other promotional material
for prospective employers.
4.Understanding how to identify and pitch to the target audience,
namely the employer.

Portfolio/Showreel
A strong portfolio/showreel opens doors, a weak portfolio/showreel
closes them.
Your portfolio/showreel is often the only thing a person sees before
deciding whether or not to contact you, and in many cases you may
not be present to explain it (particularly on-line portfolios/showreels).
There are fundamental qualities that all outstanding portfolios/
showreels share, and a variety of principals and techniques that can
help take your portfolio from average to excellent.

Portfolio/Showreel
If at all possible, your portfolio/showreel should be appropriate to the
situation and reviewer, and all portfolios should show creativity, skills,
range, thought, & ambition.
Know who your audience is - RESEARCH
It is the overall combination of these, plus that "special something," that

Dont Get a Job Make a Job tells the

stories of these new-gen trailblazers amid
the changing world; it explores their
strategies, introduces their working
methods and tells exactly how and why
they chose to make their own way. They
put themselves out there and nail personal
propaganda, they hit the streets, go guerrilla
and bend the rules. They learn from their
idols, they learn to specialise and to
diversify; to swim against the tide and to
question everything. They make tough
calls; they trust their instincts, move
mountains and imagine best-case scenarios.
They team up, some go it alone, they
exploit their interests and are true to
themselves but above all they have gusto;
they reinvent themselves, create positive
change and learn to keep on learning.
