EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
"Never depend on single income. Make investments to
create a second source."
-Warren Buffet

Let's start with a shortened statement about GerOil saying that it is a one stop
solution for procurement and supply. The internship started on 16th of February at
Geroil oil and gas products an Engineering, Procurement and
construction/commissioning company started by Mr. Sanjay Gera in 2008. The
work involved covering aspects of procurement and supply to oil and gas
industries in Indian Market like flanges, gaskets, valves, various types of pipes
and instruments. Upon gaining a keen insight into industry which can be used to
supply best quality components to the clients. I was given the knowledge how
they procure materials for their clients based on their requirement and also
conducting testing on the materials and components which they are procure for
them. The firm covers many aspects like providing their clients in the energy
sector with "Total Procurement Package Services", which include specialized
engineering of custom fabrication, product inspection and operations support, all
that through their network of International Partners and Associates.
I also involved in planning and developing our company E-commerce website
during my term of Internship. As our company is in the verge of computerizing all
its services and being an engineering student it was an added advantage for me to
understand the working of web technology instruments easily in the new
Computerized application and was able to handle some IT operations like
designing and optimization of the application as well.
I also participated in the Maritime India Summit 2016, on 14th & 16 April held at
Bombay Exhibition Center on behalf of the organization where the purpose was
to attract a lot of companies who could be potential clients and brokers who
could be our partners. The whole idea of this expo was for brand recognition and
marketing the name of brand GerOil.

ABSTRACT
Here my job is take the order that comes through E-commerce platform like
Flipkart, Amazon etc. process those order in their respective portals and pass
those sales order for invoice generation.
And then those orders after invoicing goes for packing. And I have to make sure
that right materials are packed, and all the documents are correct.
Then we have to hand over those shipments to our logistics partner like FedEx,
DTDC etc.by checking all the shipments delivery area and accordingly we have to
segregate the orders and also to check the inventory.
I have also given the job to research for the components needed to development
the company's own E-commerce portal. And currently I have floated enquires to
various Web and E-commerce development Companies and asked them to give
their proposal according to the requirement we have for our own E-commerce
website.

INTRODUCTION
INDUSTRY STRUCTURE
The American Petroleum Institute divides the petroleum industry into five sectors:

Upstream (exploration, development and production of crude oil or natural

gas).
Downstream (oil tankers, refiners, retailers and consumers).
Pipeline.
Marine.
Service and supply.

INTRODUCTION TO OIL & GAS SECTOR

The oil and gas industry includes the global processes
of exploration, extraction , refining, transporting (often by oil
tankers and pipelines), and marketing petroleum products. The largest volume
products of the industry are fuel oil and gasoline (petrol). Petroleum (oil) is also
the raw material for many chemical products including pharmaceuticals,
solvents, fertilizers, pesticides , and plastics. The industry is usually divided into
three major components:
1. Upstream 2.Midstream and 3.Downstream.
Midstream operations are usually included in the downstream category.
Petroleum is vital to many industries, and is of importance to the maintenance of
industrial civilization in its current configuration, and thus is a critical concern for
many nations. Oil accounts for a large percentage of the worlds energy
consumption, ranging from a low of 32% for Europe and Asia, to a high of 53%
for the Middle East.
Other geographic regions' consumption patterns are as follows: South and Central
America (44%), Africa (41%), and North America (40%). The world consumes 30
billion barrels (4.8 km) of oil per year, with developed nations being the largest
consumers. The United States consumed 25% of the oil produced in 2007. The
production, distribution, refining, and retailing of petroleum taken as a whole
represents the world's largest industry in terms of dollar value.
Governments such as the United States government provide a heavy public
subsidy to petroleum companies, with major tax breaks at virtually every stage of
oil exploration and extraction, including the costs of oil field leases and drilling
equipment.
Upstream:Oil companies used to be classified by sale as "supermajors" (BP,
Chevron, ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, Shell, Eni and Total S.A).
"majors", and "independents" or "jobbers".
In recent years however, National Oil Companies (NOC, as opposed to IOC,
International Oil Companies) have come to control the rights over the largest oil
3

reserves; by this measure the top ten companies all are NOC. The following table
shows the ten largest national oil companies ranked by reserves and by production
in 2012.
Most upstream work in the oil field or on an oil well is contracted out to drilling
contractors and oil field service companies.
Aside from the NOCs which dominate the upstream sector, there are many
international companies that have a market share.

For example:
BG Group, BHP, Billiton, ConocoPhillips, Chevron, Eni, ExxonMobil, OMV,
Hess Ltd, Marathon Oil, Total, Tullow Oil, First Texas Energy Corp.
Midstream:Midstream operations are sometimes classified within the downstream sector, but
these operations compose a separate and discrete sector of the petroleum industry.
Midstream operations and processes include the following:
Gathering: The gathering process employs narrow, low-pressure pipelines to
connect oil- and gas-producing wells to larger, long-haul pipelines or processing
facilities.
Processing/refining: Processing and refining operations turn crude oil and gas
into marketable products. In the case of crude oil, these products include heating
4

oil, gasoline or use in vehicles, jet fuel, and diesel oil. Oil refining
processes include distillation, vacuum distillation, catalytic reforming, catalytic
cracking, alkylation, isomerization and hydro treating. Natural gas
processing includes compression; glycol dehydration; amine treating; separating
the product into pipeline-quality natural gas and a stream of mixed natural gas
liquids; and fractionation, which separates the stream of mixed natural gas liquids
into its components. The fractionation process yields ethane, propane,
butane, isobutane , and natural gasoline.
Transportation: Oil and gas are transported to processing facilities, and from
there to end users, by pipeline, tanker/barge, truck, and rail. Pipelines are the most
economical transportation method and are most suited to movement across longer
distances, for example, across continents. Tankers and barges are also employed
for long-distance, often international transport. Rail and truck can also be used for
longer distances but are most cost-effective for shorter routes.
Storage: Midstream service providers provide storage facilities
at terminals throughout the oil and gas distribution systems. These facilities are
most often located near refining and processing facilities and are connected to
pipeline systems to facilitate shipment when product demand must be met. While
petroleum products are held in storage tanks, natural gas tends to be stored in
underground facilities, such as salt dome caverns and depleted reservoirs.
Technological applications: Midstream service providers apply technological
solutions to improve efficiency during midstream processes. Technology can be
used during compression of fuels to ease flow through pipelines; to better
detect leaks in pipelines; and to automate communications for better pipeline and
equipment monitoring.
While some upstream companies carry out certain midstream operations, the
midstream sector is dominated by a number of companies that specialize in these
services. Midstream companies include:
Aux Sable, Bridger Group ,DCP Midstream , Enbridge Energy Partners Enterprise
Products , Partners ,Genesis Energy, Gibson Energy, Inergy Midstream, Kinder
Morgan Energy Partners, Oneok Partners, Plains All American, Sunoco Logistics,
Targa Midstream Services, TransCanada, Williams Companies.

2. Amazon Seller Portal.

11

Here my job is take the order that comes through E-commerce platform like
Flipkart, Amazon etc. process those order in their respective portals and pass
those sales order for invoice generation.
And then those orders after invoicing goes for packing. And I have to make sure
that right materials are packed, and all the documents are correct.
Then we have to hand over those shipments to our logistics partner like FedEx,

segregate the orders and also to check the inventory.
The inventory has to be check and updated every day the following is the
screenshots of listing and inventory panel.

1. Flipkart Panel.
12

Here I have to check on the inventory also if it gets below minimum quantity I
have to make note of it and give to the procurement team for purchase.

SWOT ANALYSIS
Strength:
Large Scope of work.
As company not only carter to oil and gas but takes various other industry
procurement jobs because they in supply and service business.
The company can also carter to automotive and manufacturing industries.
Weakness: Oil and gas industry from past 2 to 3 years is weak.
Procurement depends on the requirement of the company.
Inventory cost is more as storage of materials is costly.
Opportunities:19

Being in supply and service firm can supply various components depends
on the need of the clients.
Cross selling through strong customer base.
Threats: The current market is weak and depends majorly on the situation of oil
producing countries.

Concept of Various form learned that comes under Sales Tax:

Types of Sales Tax:

The concept of sales tax depends on the governing principles followed by
governments, but there are some universal sales taxes applicable in most
countries. The different types of sales taxes are mentioned below.
Retail Sales Tax This is a tax charged on sale of retail goods and is directly paid
by the final consumer.
Manufacturers Sales Tax This tax is levied on the manufacturers of certain
goods.
20

Wholesale Sales Tax This tax is levied on individuals who deal with wholesale
distribution/sale of manufactured goods.
Use Tax This is a tax levied on the consumer for goods which are purchased
without sales tax (generally from vendors who are not under the tax jurisdiction).
Value Added Tax This is an additional tax levied on all sales by certain
governments.

CST Transaction Forms:

C Form / Form C

The C Form comes into picture when interstate trade takes place. The buyer
dealer of different state issues C Form for compliance of CST Rules of the state of
selling dealer. The buyer can purchase goods at concessional rates, against C
Form, in the inter-state sale. C Form can be issued only by a registered dealer to
another registered dealer. It can be issued, generally, in respect of raw materials,
packing materials goods covered by the certificate of registration of the issuing
dealer. If the buyer dealer fails to provide C Form, the seller dealer has to pay full
CST in due course, therefore it is advisable to obtain appropriate security until C
Form is received by the seller dealer in due course.

E.g.:

21

F Form / Form F
The F form is required for stock transfer to branches / consignment agents or viceversa from one state to another without attracting charge of CST. As per section 6A(1)
of the CST Act, submission of F form with complete details of movement of goods is
mandatory to prove stock transfer. Otherwise, the transaction will be treated as normal
central sale for all purposes of CST Act including for charging CST at applicable rates.
In fact F Form is an evidence to prove that the goods are sent out to other states on
stock transfer basis and not on sale basis. The consignment agent/ branch/ HO
receiving such stock transfer consignment is required to issue F Form to the selling
outlet (HO/ Branch/ Consignment Agent) or transferror dealer. It may be noted in this
regards that if the movement of goods is occasioned on account of sales, the
movement will be treated as interstate sales. There are many disputes with the VAT
Authorities on this issue so the transfreror unit has to take due care to avoid
applicability and attraction of CST on such transfers. These matters are open for
investigation by the VATO and are not settled until the assessment order is passed by
the VATO in due course.

22

E.g.:

H Form / Form H
The H Form under CST is issued when the buyer is an exporter and buys the goods for
the purpose of exports. If the exporter buyer issues H form, the selling dealer is not
required to charge or pay any CST on the transaction. The selling dealer should obtain
Form H from the exporter buyer in due course along with Bill of Lading for onward
submission to the VAT Department or else eventually the selling dealer has to pay CST
at full rate as may be applicable. Selling dealer should always obtain security to the
extent of amount of applicable CST / VAT which is not charged due to anticipated
issuance of Form H and the same may be released after receipt of duly filled up Form
H along with copy of the Bill of Lading in due course.

23

Form E1
This is issued by the dealer who initiates the inter-state movement of goods.

Form E2
This is issued by the subsequent seller when the goods move from one state to the
other.

N FORM

N Form is an application for exemption in respect of articles imported for immediate

export. Goods cleared under N-form should be exported within 7 days (168 hrs.).
N-form is required for exemption from Octroi for shipments imported into Mumbai for
immediate exports i.e. for shipments transiting through Mumbai. The Octroi inspector
in the airline cargo warehouse checks the shipments against consignment airway bill
invoice and certifies the N-form. The certified copies (3 copies) of N-form accompany
the shipment and the paperwork to the exit check post. At the exit check post, the
Octroi inspector checks and stamps the N-form and returns the Original copy of N-form
to shipper. For apex shipments received by surface for upliftment by air, the BHI staff
complete the N-form in triplicate. At the entry check post , Octroi inspector verifies the
shipment against invoice/airway bill, and certifies the N-form and hands over the
triplicate copy to transporter. This copy of N-form along with other paperwork and the
shipment is produced to the Octroi inspector at airline cargo warehouse for closing of
the N-form.

Other Forms:
CT-1
Forms are being used to procure goods duty free for the purpose of export outside
India.

ARE-1 (Application for Removal of Excisable Goods )

ARE1 form is one of the statutory document being used to avail export benefits both
under excise and customs.
Purpose
24

The role of the ARE1 form during the outbound movement of goods from India to
another country or to any SEZ (Special Economic Zone) unit in India.
