In a rut when it comes to knowing what to post on Facebook? You are not alone. I
have seen many small businesses owners get hung up on posting the same types
of content over and over againwhether they are working or not. This post will
give you 17 killer Facebook post ideas for small business owners that WILL work,
by generating lots of likes, shares and comments, as well as increased clicks
through to your website.

1. Pose a problem and ask for advice.

This type of post is great on a number of different levels:
People LOVE to answer questions and to help solve problems.

17 Killer Facebook Post Ideas For Small Business Owners

Also, if you ask a question that may also help THEM with a problem, they will be
grateful for the help!
Some ideas include:
What would you do if..
One of our readers has a question. Can you help?
I need to make a decision and am looking for your feedback.
What advice would you offer to a person who is struggling with.

2. A contest post.
Everyone loves a good contest! And there are a ton of great contest apps out there
that you can use to run your contest AND grab emails to add to your list as well!
Theres nothing like a good twofer, right?
I use Heyo and have had great success when using their app to run my contests,
promotions and special offers! There are also other apps available like TabSite
and ShortStack. You can also run Facebook contests directly on your fan page.
(check out their contest/giveaway rules here)

3. Run a poll.
Polls are great not only for generating discussion but for gaining
valuable insights from your audience.
Here is a link that will take you directly to Facebooks poll app.

Some ideas for polls include:

What is your biggest challenge?
What products would you like to see us offer?
What strategy has worked best for you when it comes to ________?

4. Share the results of your poll!

If your poll collected data that would be interesting to your audience, share the
results in a separate Facebook post. One strategy I have seen some business
owners using is offering the results in a free downloadable report (in exchange for
an email address, of course!).

5. Share inspirational images.

17 Killer Facebook Post Ideas For Small Business Owners

If you follow me on Facebook, you know this is a strategy I use every single day!
There is so much negativity in the world (and on Facebook).
I choose to encourage and inspire my fans by posting inspirational or
motivational quotes and images. This works with every client we have ever had,
by the way!

6. Fill in the blank

I am not exactly sure what it is about fill in the blank posts, but people just love
them! You can rephrase just about any question as a fill in the blank, and they
often receive more engagement than basic questions. Test this out for yourself!

7. Follow Friday
Give your fans the opportunity to share a link to their website or Facebook Page;
not only do they get the chance to showcase their business or products, but they
can meet new people and make new connections.

8. A seasonal post
Share a holiday picture, quote or greeting centered around an upcoming holiday.

Try to add a personal touch, if possible. This reminds your fans that you are a real
person!

9. Blog post excerpts

I see many business owners posting links to their blog posts, without including
any additional context. When sharing a blog post, be sure to include a backstory
or short excerpt from the post so your fans know what to expect when they click
on the link.

10. Fan-only discount

Offer your Facebook fans an exclusive discount, just for being a fan!

Use an image to promote the discount, if possible. These are better for grabbing
the attention of your fans and for getting more shares.

11. Cross-promote with someone else in your niche.

Team up with a business that offers a complimentary product or service, and help
cross-promote each other. Tag each other in posts, recommend that your fans
like each others Pages, or simply share each others content.

12. Fan challenge

Post a group challenge for your fanssometimes doing something as a group
can feel less overwhelming than doing it alone! Some examples include:
30-days to a more organized house (post a daily organization tip)
7-days to tighter abs (post a daily video or blog post sharing the best core
exercises)
Gain 1000 fans (give actionable tips for increasing your fans Facebook
audience)

13. Link to a tutorial.

17 Killer Facebook Post Ideas For Small Business Owners

Give your fans a step-by-step guide or tutorial for how to do something. These
types of posts are GREAT for getting engagement, especially clickthroughs and
shares!

14. An expert tip

Share a tip from an industry expert for solving a common problem or overcoming
a challenge. The expert could even be YOU!

15. A personal post

This is where you, as a small business owner, have an inherent advantage.
Dont be afraid to post a personal photo or story from time to time to
differentiate yourself from the big brands your fans also follow.

16. Be imperfect.
Who ever said we need to perfect in order for people to like us? Dont be afraid to

share struggles or vulnerabilities from time to time to show you are a real person.
This is a great way to make your brand more personable and more relatable!

17. Share a picture of your business, employees or office.

Sharing a photo of your workspace, your employees or even your customers (with
their permission, of course) makes your business so much more relatable!
Knowing there are real people behind your brand will go a long way to building
trust and relationships.
I have shared my best tips17 killer Facebook post ideas for small business
owners. I hope you picked up some tips that you can use in your business!

Congratulations, this is useful! I see many small businesses struggling with
content creation & curation.
I have 2 more questions:
In your opinion, to what extent it applies to other platforms, e.g. Twitter or
Instagram?
What about posting frequency? Until last year it was recommended to post
often, once a day, which was quite a challenge for many small businesses. Now,
with declining organic reach, its not that important anymore. We see many of
our clients switching to 2-3 or even 1 post a week, and puttting more effort into
best content creation and more money into post promotion. How do you think?
Thanks,
Jan

If the content you create for Facebook is applicable to your
audience on Twitter and Instagram, I would definitely multipurpose it. If you post once a day on Facebook, your content will receive
very little visibility. I recommend at LEAST 4-6 times a day for most small
business owners. If you go to once a week, you might as well not even
bother, in my opinion. Yes, its a challenge but if you want FREE organic
reach, you have to consistently produce valuable and RELATABLE content
that your audience will engage with.

Hello Kristin,
A friend posted your information on 17 KILLER FACEBOOK
POST IDEA. Great information.
I want to increase my Mary Kay business and offer to
ladies in different cities that I can get to or those who may
be to busy for me to come to them , an option to do a
Skype Pampering Session and I send the samples to
accomplish this task ahead of time.

I saw where you suggested doing a poll to see who would

be open to the idea.
However, I too, click on the link and didnt get anything
from the Facebook link.
Please share with me the site or person who could assist
me in setting up this poll.
The other questions , how much or how many questions
should I ask up front.
My thought was to state my desire to grow my client base
and that my Director was having a contest to see how
many bookings I can get and hold before January 16th,
I wanted to first find out how many have Skype or face
time on their computer, if they would be willing to assist
me in pampering them in this way, and to ask in another
question, if they would invite 2 other people to join in or
not
From the comforts of their home I can reach more ladies.
Should be in a Poll or Just Post it and see who answersI
havent gotten any response of my posts before..Maybe
Likes, but no orders

Hey Kim,
Thanks for the ideas!
I remember when I could post an update and reach 25-50% of fans. We just have
to be more strategic nowand creative, too. And, also realize that we dont need
to reach everyone, we just need to reach our ideal clients. So this month Im
going to test some audience segmenting and see how that works. My goal is to
do all the testing so my clients dont have to all the trial and error. Its
challenging!
Re: Polls: There used to be a question function where you could take a poll of
your fans in a nice orderly way. I used it all the timebut its gone now. I clicked
on the link you suggested http://www.facebook.com/poll but that page seems
to be gone. What format works for you these days? A simple list?

Thanks for this wonderful list, Kim! Several great ideas Im eager to try out.
First, a question:
The very best response I ever received to a Facebook post came one awful day
several years ago. I drove off to an errand but left my iPad on top of my car.
Shortly afterward I found the poor guy, took a photo of the ghastly remains, and
posted it on FB! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?
fbid=2813858549760&set=pb.1357680256.-2207520000.1420518688.&type=3&theater.
149 friends replied (thats a big number for me), and Ive been wondering what
triggered their responses. Did most people think Glad it wasnt me?. Or were
they like the person who stares at a traffic accident? Or something else?
