First of all: What is CTCN?

The CTCN is the operational arm of the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism,
hosted by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Established by COP 16, the CTCN facilitates the transfer of technologies through three core services: a. Providing technical assistance at the request of developing countries to accelerate the transfer of climate technologies b. Creating access to information and knowledge on climate technologies c. Fostering collaboration among climate technology stakeholders via the Centres network of regional and sectoral experts from academia, the private sector, and public and research institutions Then during COP 18, UNFCCC has selected UNEP, the leader of a consortium of partner organizations, as the host of the Climate Technology Centre. The Centre promotes the accelerated transfer of environmentally sound technologies for low carbon and Center in UN City climate resilient development at the Copenhagen request of developing countries. They provide technology solutions, capacity building and advice on policy, legal and regulatory frameworks tailored to the needs of individual countries. Delivery of CTCN services is facilitated through a wide and diverse Network of international, regional and national institutions that can respond effectively and efficiently to countries' requests.

The CTCN provides technical assistance in response to requests submitted
by developing countries via their nationally-selected focal points, or National Designated Entities (NDEs). Upon receipt of such requests, the Centre quickly mobilizes its global Network of climate technology experts to design and deliver a customized solution tailored to local needs. The CTCN does not provide funding directly to countries, but instead supports the provision of technical assistance provided by experts on specific climate technology sectors. The CTCN delivers five main types of technical support on climate technologies: a. Technical assessments, including technical expertise and recommendations related to specific technology needs, identification of technologies, technology barriers, technology efficiency, as well as piloting and deployment of technologies. b. Technical support for policy and planning documents, include strategies and policies, roadmaps and action plans, regulations and legal measures c. Trainings d. Tools and methodologies e. Implementation plans While the technical assistance on climate technologies is provided: - to developing countries at the request of their NDEs - free of charge (with a value up to 250,000 USD) - at local, national or regional levels - to academic, public, NGO, or private sector entities - for a broad range of adaptation and mitigation technologies - at all stages of the technology cycle: from identification of climate technology needs; policy assessment; selection and piloting of technological solutions; to assistance that supports technology customization and widespread deployment

Who are Providing Technology?
Basically there are all kinds of different parties providing the technologies, including national technology centre or institution; regional climate technology centre or network; intergovernmental, international, regional or sector organization, partnership or initiative that contributes to technology deployment and transfer; or research, academic, financial, non- governmental, private sector or public sector organization, partnership or initiative. Examples of some parties are: Toyo Engineering Corporation Japan Alterra, Stichting DLO Netherlands Burleson Institute Inc. United States From the information gathered, many of these members are not direct technology providers, but instead are consultants to different areas of expertise and would provide plans for adaption or mitigation.
How Does one Apply for help?
Requests for technical assistance are submitted by CTCN National Designated Entities (NDE). NDEs are selected by each country to coordinate requests from local/national governments, NGOs, and/or the private sector for capacity building and technical assistance.
