Background:

The concept of this project is basically taken from the picturesque and
globally renowned floating market in Venice, Italy
The city of Venice has a topography and a climate which is supportive of the
aforementioned and with time has developed to become a major tourist
attraction catering to almost 75,000 tourists per day
Tourism, thus, contributes to a major chunk of Venices economy. An estimate
of USD 193 million is spent annually by the tourists in the city.
In addition to being a major tourist attraction, this floating market also serves
the purpose of a marketplace where shopping is a prominent activity
amongst locals and tourists, alike.
Islamabads suburbs provide a synonymous atmosphere, topography and a
climate, which is ideal for the execution of the proposed project. Not only
that, but the improving security situation of the city and the dearth of quality
tourist attractions which give off a rather unique entertainment experience, is
also supportive of the project, under discussion, in this report.

Introduction:

Concept: As stated earlier, the notion is imitative of the floating markets in

Venice, which have gained global fame over the years for their scenic
beauty and exclusivity.
Motivation: Dearth of scenic yet entertaining tourist attractions in
Islamabad, which can accommodate local and foreign tourists, alike.
Proposed Location: Bara Kahu, because of a favorable geography, with the
Rawal Lake in the backdrop and lots of ample, unused space. Furthermore,
Bara Kahu is the gateway town to the Himalayan tourist resorts, like
Murree and the Galiyaat. The strategic location of the town will benefit in
accosting more tourists to the proposed project. Keeping it in the suburbs
will also open up developmental opportunities for the surrounding areas
and help maintain the tranquility and civic management of the main city,
keeping it safe from the debris and another massive scale excavation.
Functional Dynamic: Row-boats are the paramount attraction of this
project, with them being used for transporting the visitors to and through
the market. The market will consist of different restaurants and shops
which provide affordable food and goods. There will also be a parking lot
for the visitors cars, close to the point where the boats will be hired.
Value Addition: The idea of adding a large aquarium or a dolphin bay is to
primarily cater for younger age group and for elders, an opportunity to
reconnect with nature by experiencing marine life at the closest.

Architecture: The architecture of the market would solely focus on

providing an ambience of Venice along with a practical construction plan
would be taken into account for the dolphin bay/aquarium.
