SmuthSENIOR PASTOR
DR. HAYES WICKER
Though I do not speak in many other churches on weekends, | felt
led to accept the invitation to preach at the Calvary Baptist Church
in Covington, Kentucky this weekend. They are celebrating
Heritage Week as one of the Midwest's leading lighthouse
ministries where the famed Bible teacher, Dr. Warren Wiersbe,
was pastor. They have greatly influenced Northern Kentucky and
Greater Cincinnati. You will be blessed to hear Dr. Kevin Smith
inall three services.
Dr. Smith is described by Dr. Danny Akin, President of
Southeastern Seminary, as “a phenomenal preacher, one of the
finest and most outstanding men | have ever met.” Kevin is the
Executive Director of the Baptist Convention of Maryland and
Delaware and formerly Professor of Church History and
Preaching at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was also
a teaching pastor at Highview Baptist Church, where Eric Yeldell
served as Worship Pastor.
Kevin is, as Vance Havner described, ‘A preacher with the mind of
a scholar, the heart of a child, and the fide of a rhinoceros, who
has toughened his hide without hardening his heart.” | love to
preach and | love those who preach and practice what they
preach.
Kevin originally was an auditor in New York City as a specialist in
tax law, then he was called to vocational ministry. He pastored for
15 years and was the Martin Luther King, Jr. Fellow at the
Seminary. With an exceptional understanding of cultural issues
and how to address them from a gospel perspective, he has
served as President of the Kentucky Baptist Convention and is
one of the most sought after African American preachers in
America. Knowing Kevin is my friend, | feel certain you will be
delighted to meet him.
| look forward to returning home to Naples and preaching to our
church next Saturday and Sunday.
