Definition
FOUNDATION field bus is an all, two-way communications system that serves as the
base-level in a plant or factory environment
Two related implementations of FOUNDATION have been introduced to meet different
needs within the process automation environment. These two implementations use
different physical media and communication speeds.
The H1 Field bus retains and optimizes the desirable features of the 4-20 ma analog
system.
Advantages
- Wiring savings
- Hardware savings-fewer devices (instruments barriers and I/O)
- Documentation savings-Simpler layout and drawings
- Reduced Engineering costs
- Footprint savings
- Multi-variable field devices
- Interoperability and freedom of choice
- Reduced Commissioning and startup costs
- Reduced downtime
- Integrity improved
- DCS future capacity savings
- Control in the field
- Device Plug and Play
- On line configuration
- Time Stamping and Synchronization
- Obsolescence Robustness
- Status Information
- Tag Search Capability
- Interface to High Speed Ethernet
-Trend storage in the field device
- Predictive Maintenance
- DCS future capacity savings
Disadvantages
Foundation Field bus is the most complex technology in use in process control
today.
It has not been easy for device vendors to make the transition from HART to FF.
The extra complexity has led to an increase in field device software bugs of
various types. These bugs are manageable (fixable), but have taken time and
cost money to manage.
The lagging development of advanced diagnostics and extra cost and complexity
of FF has hurt the expected benefits of the technology. In many cases, the
current installation of FF has only provided the platform for future benefits when
further diagnostic development is done.
Procedure
1. Go to start =>Program =>ABB Industrial IT 800xA=>Device
Mgmt=>FOUNDATION field bus=>Configure.
2. Insert the local IP address of the client/server network interface and also IP address of
HSE subnet interface.
5. After inserting HSE subnet, engineering workplace look like as shown below.
6. Click on FFUpload aspect you will see red light as shown below.
7. Go to library update and click on update library .After doing that red light will become
green light as shown below.
8. Click on HSE subnet interface. After clicking on that a window will appear .select edit
subnet button on that.
10. Right click on FF _NET and insert FF OPC server as shown below
11. Right Click on HSE subnet and insert Host CI860 if you are using CI860 in your
application.
13. Right click on LD800HSE and select the link to be used .In this example link 1 is
used.
14. Click on LD800 HSE and give the IP of LD800 HSE. You need to configure the
same IP in LD800HSE using webpage.
15. After inserting the link 1 a object called as H1 schedule will be there .Click on that
insert application as shown below.
16. After this import object types using Device library wizard. Object types of device
can be downloaded from solutions bank. After doing that device can be inserted in FF
builder. For doing that right click on link and insert devices as shown below.
17. After inserting the device will appear as shown below.16 devices can be inserted in
one link.
18. All IP involved in network need to be configure. For that click on tools -> network.
Following window will appear. Configure all IPs and resources ID in window shown
below.
19. Now next setup is to configure address of device. Double click on device in FF
builder and configure address in following window. F device is LAS device also tick LM
setting as shown in following window
20. Loops which are needed to be run in field and not in controller can be configure in
FF application tab as shown below .This is done in FBDs. All blocks are device specific
blocks.
22. Next step is to define a FF variable for the Variable which needed to be used in
controller programming .For that double click on CI860 .go to published/Subscribed tab.
24. Select the direction of signal, data type etc as shown below.
25. FF variable can be selected by pressing F2 .This will give you list of variables of
same data type .Variable which is needed to be transferred can be selected from
dropdown.
27. Go to commissioning mode. After doing that FF builder will look like this.
28. Right click on LD800HSE and select object .Select linking device initialization and
address assignment.
31. Select the device from live list as shown below and press assign .Step 28 and 29 has
to be performed for all devices.
32. After doing that all object will have green colors tick .Along with that there will few
objects which will have black downward arrow.
33. Select the object with black arrow and go to online dialog as shown below.
35. All device parameters can configure by double click on device block .By double
clicking following window will appear where all parameters can be configured.
36. After doing this close FF builder .Go to engineering workplace .select FFUpload
aspect of HSE subnet .Go to HSE subnet reference and select upload HSE subnet.
37. After doing that Red light will become green as shown below and all object of FF
builder will appear in control structure as shown below.
38. After doing that whole hardware has to be inserted in control builder. When we do
that same hardware will be available in control structure. Then right click on CI860,
select insert object and select HSE HOST CI860 from HSE subnet.
39. after that open control builder and make some logics in that. In following logic is
being made in Control module. We have taken a case that in following logic we need
some FF variable to be used.
40. after making logics go to CI860 hardware editor. When we do this we will see
following window. In this window in column protocol info we will see FF variables
which can be linked to variable of controller logics made in above steps.
41. When above steps are done, configuration is completed and after going online loop
will work. We can see live value controller logics as well as FF builder made logics. This
can be seen below.
Following figure shows online values in loop in FF builder.
