Why require an UG thesis or capstone project?

[Thesis and Capstone project] function as terminal project

requirements that would not only demonstrate a students
comprehensive knowledge of the area of study and research
methods but also allow them to apply the concepts and methods
to a specific problem in their area of specialization. (CMO25s15)

BS Computer Science thesis

BS Computer Science students are required to complete a thesis
that is focused on the theories and concepts of computing in the
form of a scientific work.
A thesis is a technical report on a systematic investigation of a
problem that can be solved using computing. It may include a
solution, an approximate or partial solution, a scientific
investigation, or the development of results leading to the solution
of the problem.
A Computer Science thesis must be anchored on Computer Science
principles.

BS Information Systems capstone project

BS Information Systems students must complete a project such as

business application development or an Information Systems plan.
A capstone project is an undertaking appropriate to a professional
field. It should significantly address an existing problem or need.
An Information Systems capstone project focuses on business
processes and the implications of introducing a computing solution
to a problem.

BS Information Technology capstone project

BS Information Technology students must complete a capstone

project such as a software/system development with emphasis on
the IT infrastructure or an IT management project.
A capstone project is an undertaking appropriate to a professional
field. It should significantly address an existing problem or need.
An Information Technology capstone project focuses on the
infrastructure, application, or processes involved in implementing a
computing solution to a problem.

Scope of the thesis or capstone project

The thesis or capstone project should integrate the different

courses, knowledge, and competencies learned in the curriculum.
Students are encouraged to produce innovative results, generate
new knowledge or theories, or explore new frontiers of knowledge
or application areas.
Each HEI must have specific guidelines on undergraduate thesis
and capstone projects.

Accepted by a panel composed of 3 members that includes

the adviser

The adviser should have completed a computing project

successfully beyond the bachelors degree project.
The adviser and panel members must have a degree in a
computing or allied programs or must be a domain expert.
At least one panel member must have a Masters degree in
computing or allied program.
For IS and IT projects, at least one panel member have an
industry experience.
An adviser must guide the students throughout the project life
cycle, up to project defense and possible deployment.
An adviser should handle at most 10 projects at a time.
Other panel members should be involved in at most 20
projects in a semester (counting all projects in all HEIs).
External client (if there is) should be represented AMAP.

Intellectual Property Rights

The UG thesis or capstone project must not infringe on existing

Intellectual Property (IP).
All prior works, including open source, open client, and creative
commons content must be properly cited.
Copyright and other Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) arising
from the thesis or capstone project shall be bound by the IP
policies of the HEI provided that any such policies are not grossly
disadvantageous to the creators of IP.
