Inthepasttwodecadestherapidlygrowingworldtrendhasbeen
towardglobalization.Withtheemergenceoftheinternetasa
meansofcommunicationandtheincreasingaccessibilityof
internationaltradephysicalbarriersarenottheonlybarriers
witheringaway.Protectivetariffsareplummetingandfreetrade
agreementsarebecomingmoreprevalent.Romaniaappreciates
thatglobalizationcreatesfavorablesituationsforexpansionof
commercialaswellaseconomicassets.InthepastyearRomania
hasseenaforeigndirectinvestment(FDI)increaseof199%.
InwardFDIincreasedfromEURO234millionin2005toEURO
699millionin2006.However,Romaniarealizesthatincreased
globalizationdoesnotautomaticallyproducemoreequality.
GlobalizationandDevelopmentcancontributetotheadvancement
oftheoverallinternationalhumanconditionhowever,the
delegationofRomaniarecognizesthatwithoutproperregulation
thepotentialforadvancementwillremainlimitedtoanelitefew
individuals,businesses,andnations.Unlesscheckedandaimed
towardthecommongood,globalizationcannoteffectivelyservethe
globalcommunity.Crucialindealingwiththecomplexitiesof
globalization,goodgovernancemustactwithsolidarityand
responsibility.Romaniabelievesthatininvolvingpeoplein
globalizationwemustpromotemoralvalues,democratic
principals,inclusiveglobalpoliticalculture,institutionsthat
safeguardbothindividualcivilrightsandinherentfreedoms,and
thecommongood.Inaddition,copingwiththeinfluxof
informationfromglobalizationgovernmentsmustactwith
solidarityandinsight.Accesstodigitaleducationwillundoubtedly
resultintheconfidenceofcitizensintheirrespective
administrationsandallowforagreaterdegreeoftransparency,and
thereforealesserdegreeofcorruption.
Romaniabelievesthemultinationalbusinesscommunityhasthe
abilityandtheobligationtosupportpertinentvaluesinhuman
rights,laborstandards,andenvironmentalpreservation.Asstated
bythepresident,Mr.TraionBasescu,Romaniafeelsa"heartfelt
attachmenttomultilateralism,asaneffectiveinstrumentdesigned
toidentifytheadequateanswerstothechallengesbroughtby
globalization."

supportedinnovativeandeffectivewaysofestablishing

thenewestmembersoftheEuropeanUnion,Romaniaisanactive
memberoftheWorldTradeOrganization,andlooksforwardto
offeringitssupporttotheredirectionofglobalizationtobest
benefittheglobalcommunity.
