INTRODUCTION

1.1

Introduction to Industrial Training

Industrial training is a compulsory element in the academic structure of

almost all university courses. It in fact is necessary for the completion of the
study or a professional course. It serves as a platform for students to improve and
develop various skills through first-hand experience in the real working
environment. This can be achieved through the good guidance from a
professional supervisor. By practising the skills learnt, the students are also able
to gain new experiences that are very useful in many aspects including mental,
emotional, physical and social aspects. Furthermore, the training prepares the
students for the better future profession and career path. Hence, it is
recommended to start the training at the end of the semester of study period for
duration of 12 weeks by placing the students at selected organizations or
companies. Thus, it will be able to provide a better exposure for the specified
type of profession for the student, provided with the effective supervision of the
supervisor.

At the same time, students should also realise that almost all employers
and companies tend to seek for new employees who are creative and innovative
for future employment purpose. Therefore, students must show their passion and
effort in to easily secure a placement upon the end of their industrial training. It
is very encouraged for them to involve in a wide range of activities such as
designing, doing proposals and on-site training during their internship period.
This will help the student to be prepared for the working life as an engineer.
Since all the theoretical knowledge will be implemented in the real life working
environment, eventually the relevant knowledge and new skill developed during
their industrial training will be greatly improved, allowing them to compete
aggressively in the job market.

Currently, most companies require candidates with an appreciable

knowledge of working at a company before. In cases like this, practical training
comes in handy as it serves as a good exposure for the students to gain some
working experience. The experience gained could also be an added advantage
during interview sessions in their future working life.

During my practical period, I was given an opportunity to join KGC

Resources Sdn Bhd. The duration of my practical training was from 15th June
2015 until 5th September 2015.
