A 32-year-old North Carolina woman

Nestl Outbids Another Canadian Town For Control Of

Local Water Supply

Corporate giant Nestl continued its privatization

creep recently as it won
approval to take over another Canadian communitys water supply, claiming
it needed the well to ensure
future business growth.
Nestl purchased the well
near Elora, Ontario from
Middlebrook Water Company last month after making a conditional
offer in 2015, the Canadian Press reports.
In August, the Township of Centre Wellington made an offer to purchase the Middlebrook well site to protect access to the water for the
community. Consequently, the multinationalwhich claimed it had
no idea the community was its competitorwaived all its conditions
and matched the townships offer in order to snag the well for itself.
Those conditions included conducting pump tests to determine if the
watershed met the companys quality and quantity requirements, the
Canadian Press reports.
Moreover, Nestl has stated that the Middlebrook site will only be a
backup for its other nearby well and bottling plant in Aberfoyle,
where the corporation already draws up to 3.6 million liters (roughly
951,000 gallons) of water a day. The company reportedly plans to
extract as much as 1.6 million liters (almost 423,000 gallons) a day
from Middlebrook to be transported to its bottling facility.

The Lighter Side

Time For the Test
The wall clock in the philosophy lecture hall was about as old as the
professor and had a very interesting trait. If it was hit with an eraser,
it jumped ahead a couple of minutes.
Naturally, that special feature was abused on a regular basis to shorten the philosophy lectures.
The professor seemed to be in his own little world and appeared not
to notice.
Then came the semester exam.
After everybody had picked up their copy of the exam booklet and
settled down to do some serious cheating the professor walked
around, collected all the erasers and sat at an empty spot near the
front, and proceeded to throw erasers at the wall clock.
Polygamy Explained
A little boy was attending his first wedding. After the service, his
cousin asked him, "How many women can a man marry?"
"Sixteen," the boy responded.
His cousin was amazed that he knew the answer so quickly.
"How did you know that?"
"Easy," the little boy said. "All you have to do is add it up, like the
preacher said: 'Four better, four worse, four richer, four poorer.' "

Diagnosis
While making rounds, a doctor points out an X-ray to a group of first
year medical students.
"As you can see," she says, "the patient limps because his left fibula
and tibia are radically arched.
Turning to one of the doctors in training, she asked, Michael, what
would you do in a case like this?
"Well," ponders the student, "I suppose I'd limp too."

Inanimate objects are classified scientifically into three major categories - those
that don't work, those that break down and
those that get lost.

Dear Dave
I own a one-bedroom condo that Im using as a
rental property. The current tenants old agreement is up soon, but she signed a new lease less
than a month ago and gave me a deposit, plus
the first months rent. Just the other day, she
called and wants to back out of the agreement.
She said she discovered after she signed that her
ex is having serious health problems, and she
needs to move to help take care of their kids.
What do you think I should do?
~ Flavia
Dear Flavia,
I own a bunch of rental properties, so I know for a fact that as a landlord you run into all kinds of situations. Some are more genuine than
others. I would want some proof as to whats going on, but on the
surface it sounds like shes got a valid reason for wanting to cancel
the agreement.
Basically, shes asking for your understanding and mercy. If it were
me, and what shes said turned out to be true, Id try to lease the
place to someone else as quickly as possible, and Id refund her the
deposit plus any money it doesnt cost you in the process. In other
words, if it took two weeks to find another tenant, then Id give back
the deposit and two weeks rent. Of course, if shes in really bad
shapeand youre on solid enough financial ground to withstand the
blowyou could let her out of the agreement completely and move
on to finding another tenant.
You dont want to profit from someone whos genuinely struggling.
But you have to look out for yourself and, if possible, try to break
even. Regardless, I wouldnt take advantage of anyone whos truly
going through hard times. Thats just not right.
~ Dave
