More than two hundred police recruits graduate in Kismayo

Kismayo, 4 October, 2016 - Two hundred and two Jubbaland
Police recruits have graduated after completing a three-month

training conducted by the African Union Mission in Somalia

(AMISOM) and the Somali Police Force.
The officers, comprising young Somali men and women, are the
second batch of recruits to graduate in Jubbaland this year.
The colourful ceremony, held Monday, was presided by the Deputy
Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union
Commission (DSRCC) for Somalia, Lydia Wanyoto. Also in attendance
were AMISOM Police Commissioner, Anand Pillay; Somali Police Force
Commissioner, Maj. General Mohamed Sheikh Hamud; Interim
Jubbaland Administration Second Deputy President, Abdulkadir Haji
Mohamud Luga-Dhere, and representatives from United Nations
among others
Ms Wanyoto congratulated the recruits for completing the intensive
training, urging federal states to continue recruiting more women in
the security forces given their potential in unifying societies
emerging from conflicts.
I want to emphasize the contribution of women not only in state
formation but also in communities coming out of conflict. Women
play a very critical role in communities, because they are caretakers
of families and biggest contributors of social order and stability in
the community. I would like to congratulate the female graduates for
the good work, said the DSRCC.
Somali Police Force Commissioner, Maj. General Mohamed Sheikh
Hamud, congratulated Jubbaland administration for its commitment
in securing the region.
I am welcoming you to join the Somali Police Forces, especially
Jubbaland Police Force. You are part of a huge police force in
Somalia, you are required to work for the community, and when you
are performing your duties, you should show respect to society
members, said Maj. Gen. Hamud.
He thanked the United Kingdoms Department for International
Development (DFID) and the United Nations Office for Project
Services (UNOPS) for supporting the police training programme in
the country.
Mr Luga-Dhere urged the officers to be selfless in their policing
duties, saying Jubbaland administration was counting on them to
keep residents safe and secure.
Since you have completed your training, you are now officially part
of Jubbaland Police Force. You are expected to perform your duties
diligently and keep the community safe. You should always support
justice, security and peace in Jubbaland, said the Interim Jubbaland
Administration Second Vice President.

AMISOM Police Commissioner, Anand Pillay, said AMISOM was proud

of the officers hard work in training.
The training that you have received is not completed; AMISOM will
continue to provide mentoring services while you are at police
stations and in the field. We will provide on-the-job training to
ensure you receive the necessary policing skills to perform your
work effectively, said Mr Pillay.
The officers are the second batch to graduate this year, under the
elaborate AMISOM-SPF police training programme. In May, 198
police officers, comprising 186 men and 12 women, graduated after
a three-month intensive training. The first group has already been
deployed to maintain security in various parts of Jubbaland.
