of country, state and city shouldnt be used in name so we have
developed a brand name VRINDA, so all our FPOs and their produce

DEVELOPMENT

II.

In the district, livestock rearing is mainly taken as an

household activity, being managed by family members
particularly women members and development
programmes need to keep it in view while addressing the
emerging issues relating to this sector.
POULTRY

III.

In the district, poultry broiler farming plays an important

role by means of providing additional income and gainful
employment to farmers and large number of unemployed
youths. Demand for eggs and broilers are met from
outside states like West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and
Orissa.
SHEEP, GOAT & PIGGERY
As per 2003 census there are 1.76 lakh goats and sheep
and 0.27 lakh pigs in the district. To support these
activities the district has 50000 ha. of non agricultural
land in the form of fallow, wasteland and pastures. Pig
farming and goat rearing under semi-intensive system in
the tribal dominated villages in the district is gaining
importance in last few years.

8. Process of mobilization of Farmers under the FPO:

We have hired an advisory company called NEEA with whom we have
travelled to Nagri, Ranka, Bhawnathpur, Garhwa met over 350 farmers,
farmer representatives. We also surveyed the local rural HAT where more
than 3000 farmers and animal breeders visist every Thursday for weekly
trade. We also Visited farms, marginal farmers and had a session where
small and marginal farmers in details told us about their problems,
difficulties. After that organized two-awareness session with local
language help explaining them benefits of FPO, had a counseling session.
Then we organized another meeting where farmers and representatives
asked us various questions and details, which they prepared after the last
awareness session; on doing that we designed a special baseline survey
sheet and a special farmer registration form according to the needs of
ROC and information required to form a FPO(both will be attached with
this form). Till now this procedure has been completed, due to panchayat
election we have paused our campaign and will start with registration, 2nd
phase of awareness camp, and baseline survey soon.
9.

Strategy to be adopted by POPI for capacity building of members of FPO:

We have designed a very sophisticated structure with our advisors, which

is:
I.

Every FPO will have a social coordinator & a technical

coordinator; these two people will have very dedicated
responsibilities in providing all the technical, managerial
educational training and assistance to FPO members. Social
coordinators will also organize awareness camps, processing unit
visits, social functions where farmers can interact with experts,
buyers, food processing entrepreneurs and also create a proper
linkage whereas technical expert will organize e-training sessions,
farm to farm monitoring, assist in soil testing, production technique
so that crops are not destroyed and attain its optimum potential,
bring in new seeds which are more adaptable to market for

II.
III.

IV.
V.

example tomato grown in this area cant be used for processing so

new seeds and soil conversion and other techniques which farmers
require to grow specific tomatoes to meet demand will be assisted
by the technical coordinator.
Apart from that exposure visits in groups to NDDB, NAHB other
states like Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh.
We are also trying to tie up to organize video sessions and
awareness camps wherein international farming techniques and
international volunteers will come and work with our local farmers.
E LEARNING will also be very instrumental.
Apart from that we are keeping 2% from all our PPP projects for
development of FPO.

10.Strategy for establishment and registration of FPO:

Although we have answered about it in point 8 but to make it step by
step:
Awareness camp & introduction to the concept.
Awareness camp 2 with details of problems faced till now + field visit
Awareness camp 3: wherein the concept of FPO and its benefits are shown
Counselling session.
Registration camp with regsitartion form & baseline survey
After general registration specific commodity wise FPO distribution and training
preparation, research and cluster formation.
Legal registration
appoitment of coordinators+contract for farming is acquired + seed distribution
FPO operational

11.Strategy for training to Board of Directors of FPO:

The Board of directors will be trained meticulously by the
A.P.M.C. and will be closely mentored and monitored. The
BOD will also receive a moderate salary in first 6 months
and then full salary from onwards 6 months. BOD will also
trained by our international volunteers with who we are in
talks with and also would request if possible trainings from
NABARD, NIAM and JSAMB exerts.
Apart from that we will send the BOD to conferences,
national seminars and will provide all E-LEARNING
facilities. We have also initiated talks with XISS, XITE for a
special free 2-3 weeks management camp for all our FPO
management BOD.
12.
Strategy for training to CEO of FPO :
As of now the same strategy mentioned about training of
BOD will be given to CEO, although CEO will receive special
mentorship from A.P.M.C. secretary and also we will try to
send him to more extensive seminars and training
schedules related to exotic vegetables and its processing.

13.

project right from backward awareness, registration, organization
and most important branding, market linkage and other proper tools.

developing exotic vegetable business, but for professional
plan and monitoring we are cooperating with following
agencies for the same:
I.
II.

New Economic Empowerment Advisory Pvt. Limited

Ramesh Singh & Associates
Additionally we have CA appointed by JSAMB who will help
us with financial preparation part
15. Marketing and long term sustainability plan for FPO:

This FPO success is based on cooperation and expertise of NABARD

& the joint effort of our producers. Dairy and Husbandry is a major
profession for this district. The idea is to first motivate them to align
together, mobilize them to create a momentum in dairy and animal
husbandry, and also create a viable market brand.

The entire ideology is based on

creating a brand of milk products, poultry products and also goat
meat products. We would make one of the biggest professional
platform where producers will be trained, proper infrastructure
provided to them, proper logistic chain would be created and a
complete three tier marketing plan will be created. In all three tier
marketing members of FPO will be involved and then among them
few will join the marketing team and learn the entire business ropes,
supply deliverables, business development strategies. In second
phase we will make members account managers for our clients and
on third phase of handholding we will slowly just monitor and let the
members of marketing team handle the entire business development
operations.

Three tiers of operations:

1. We will start initial brand approach with aggressive ECOMMERCE, INTERNET-PROMOTIONS, APEDA
conferences, stalls, and food exhibitions, trade meets. Apart

from that we will also organize press meets, health exhibitions,

awareness camps
2. The second tier marketing is outlet marketing, wherein we will
be setting up special outlet stores in association with other
sister FPOs and our principal marketing federation at district
level, apart from that we will have outlets in retail market
chains like reliance, big bazaar, Tesco to establish our counters,
where our specialized goods will be showcased and sold.
3. The third tier is more strategically aggressive wherein we will
be going for long term corporate supply for canteens, hotels,
hostels and hospitals. Additionally we will also get into advance
order management.
4. We are also coming up with IQF & LAB under PPP mode for
Animal products, dairy products, so this will be a big consumer
for the FPO.

16. Strategy for assessment of revolving fund assistance of
