Early life[edit]
Aquilino Martin de la Llana Pimentel III was conceived on January 20, 1964

Pimentel earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Ateneo de Man
ila University and his Bachelor of Laws from University of the Philippines Colle

Pimentel started functioning as a legal counselor in 1990, and was official (spe

August 2011.[5] He was presented Doctor of Humanities honoris causa by the Poly
technic University of the Philippines on May 18, 2012.[8]
In January 2000, Pimentel wedded 1998 Miss Universe Philippines, Jewel May Lobat
on who is a cousin of Juan Miguel Zubiri's significant other Audrey Tan, with wh
om he has two sons.[9] They have been living independently since November 2011.[

2001 election[edit]
Pimentel kept running for Cagayan de Oro City chairman in 2001 yet lost.[11]
2007 election[edit]
Running in just his second race in the May 14, 2007 senatorial races, Pimentel w
as barely crushed by Bukidnon Congressman Miguel Zubiri for the twelfth and last
opening in the Philippine Senate. The limited edge of 18,372 votes was ferventl
y, especially the votes from the southern Philippine territory of Maguindanao, w
here Pimentel had lost vigorously to Zubiri.[12]
Race protest[edit]

Asserting the votes in Maguindanao were spoiled, Pimentel appealed to the Suprem
e Court to issue a controlling request against the announcement of Zubiri. With
the vote tied at 7 7, the High Tribunal did not give Pimentel's appeal. In any cas
e, then Chief Justice Reynato Puno was among the 7 jusctices who supported Pimen
tel's petition.[13]
On July 14, 2007, Pimentel documented an appointive challenge to the Senate Elec
toral Tribunal (SET). In the wake of discovering justification for a describe, t
he SET continued with the protest.[14] On August 11, 2011, Pimentel won the diss
ent and was declared the legitimate champ after Zubiri's resignation.[15]
2013 election[edit]
Pimentel was incorporated into the United Nationalist Alliance's waitlist of pos

Senate President (2016-present)[edit]
On July 25, 2016, Pimentel was chosen as Senate President with 20 out of 23 repr
esentatives voting to support him, not long after the opening of the seventeenth
Congress of the Philippines.[16] He, alongside his dad Aquilino Pimentel Jr., i
s the main father-and-child couple being chosen as Senate President in Philippin
e History (the senior Pimentel served as Senate President from November 13, 2000
to July 23, 2001).[17]
