lead to an electrical short which may cause the engine to stall.
Kawasaki has initiated a safety recall to inspect the ignition switch wiring harness and install
additional harness protection on all eligible units.

Ignition switch harness inspection

Inspect the ignition switch wiring harness and install the protective kit.

WARNING
Gasoline is extremely flammable and can be explosive under certain conditions, creating
the potential for serious burns. Make sure the area is well ventilated and free from any
source of flame or sparks; this includes any appliance with a pilot light. Do not smoke.
Turn the ignition switch off. Disconnect the battery (-) terminal. To avoid fuel spills, draw it
from the tank when the engine is cold. Be prepared for fuel spillage; any spilled fuel must
be completely wiped up immediately.

Inspection
1. Remove the fuel tank (refer to the service manual)
2. Inspect the ignition switch wiring harness at
Inspection location
the location shown.

If the copper core is not exposed on any wire in the

area shown, install the protection kit as described in
this bulletin.

Replace the ignition switch and proceed to Step 6 of
Kit Installation. Note that the new ignition switch has
the protective tube (wrap) already fitted.

Kit Installation
1. Disconnect the ignition switch connector.

2. If there is minor damage (copper core not

exposed) to the insulation, repair it using the
tape supplied in the kit.

3. Add a piece of tape to the protective tube

(wrap) as shown.

4. Install the protective tube as shown using the

tape previously fitted to fix the tube to the
harness.

towards the frame as shown.
B = positioned to the left side of the
motorcycle.
C = positioned level with the right edge of the
frame.
D = positioned behind the edge of the ignition
switch stay.
