training will be of a great value in future carrier. Several people have provided considerable
encouragement and assistance to complete my training successfully. First I would like to thank
training division, of IET to gave me the chance for the trainee in cecb. Also I express my
sincere appreciation to First of all I would like to thanks head of civil Engineering
department Mr. V.K.L.Rajakaruna. He gave me the guidance and advice before go to the
training Also I would like to thank the staff of Training Division Institute of
Engineering Technology staff of Dept. of civil Engineering and to the National
Apprentices and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA), for the opportunities
provided for students to get practical experience and additional theoretical knowledge
in the industry while being students of the Institute of Engineering Technology.
I wish to extend my sincere thanks to the staff of the Central Engineering
Consultancy Bureau.

CONCLUSION
According to my experience gained at the Basic Industrial Training period, at
Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau the organizations where I had my
training, has a good ability and intention to provide a useful industrial training.
Industrial training helps to the students who want to familiarize with the practical
situations. Through practical work, any difficult theoretical situation can easy to
understand. Therefore during training period I have a chance to understand the
difficulties met during lectures, as well as sections to be lectured in our academic
period. I have an opportunity to familiar with some easy and quick methods used in
construction in the field.
Nowadays civil engineer is not only an engineer but also a manager of laborer and
material at the work site. So I had a chance to move with engineers, managers, office
staff and laborers, learn how they motivate their subordinates to familiarize with rules
and regulations, ways applied to reduce material wastage and increase progress.
During my training I could understand another important characteristic which I have to
be well aware of that, taking some action as consultant trainee, working with people is
more difficult than using machinery. So their effectiveness depends on the kind of
motivation. So, as a front line manager its the responsibility of technical officer to
always guide his or her subordinates in the direction of predetermined objective. Every
thing planed by the top management will be in vain of site managers fail to achieve the
goals.
The safety of the working people is also very important. Each & every person should
wear safety helmets, especially when working on upper floors.
In addition I would like to say few words about National Diploma in Engineering
Sciences course & the NAITA. I am so satisfied, that I am lucky enough to follow a
course like National Diploma in Engineering Sciences as we can study a lot about
new technologies through the course. As our courses were upgraded to meet the
demands in the field it was renamed in 2006 as Institute of Engineering Technologies
which had the former name as Technician Training Institute.
I would like to offer my thanks to my teachers at the institute who were so much helpful to get
complete qualification in this field, the industrial training is so valuable regarding the training
the NAITA had done a much valuable service to the students. The staff of the NAITA is under
Institute of Engineering Technologies who had inspected the training of students, which is
very useful for trainees.

PREFACE
The Basic Industrial Training Program is a program, which is specially conducted for the
students who have 6 month theory knowledge. Civil department of IET conducts this program
with National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA). All engineering
diplomats must submit a report based on training after their training period. According to that,
this particular report is based on my industrial training of one year period. During this period I
was attached with one of the leading organization in Sri Lanka in consultant service, which is
Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau.

I presented that the administration followed in our work site, duties and responsibilities of
each person who works at site. Also I included some details in this chapter about documents
which were handled at office.
As I studied in theory I gained much more practical knowledge in my training period. What I
gained, all are presented in this report under several chapters.
In this report, I hope to cover everything that I gained during my training period, and
information about those. Therefore, I believe that this presentation is sufficient to create a clear
picture about my industrial training.
