Reaction Paper: Suicide

People who try to take their own life are often trying to get away from a situation that
seems impossible to deal with. Many who attempt suicide are seeking relief from feeling
ashamed, guilty, or like a burden to others, feeling like a victim, feelings of rejection, loss, or
loneliness. Most suicide attempts do not result in death. Many of these attempts are done in a
way that makes rescue possible. These attempts are often a cry for help. Some people attempts
suicide by taking poisons or overdose. A man is more likely to choose violent methods, such as
shooting themselves. As a result, suicide attempts by men are more likely to result in death.
That who commits suicide thinks that once they take themselves out of the world makes their
friends and relatives doing a favor.
My personal stand about suicide is it just a wasting time of a depressed person that
instead of making his/her life full of happiness, they wasted it and thinks the negative side.
Suicide may feel by everyone who thinks he/she is alone and no one cares for them. But theyre
wrong. They dont realize that in a billion of people in this world, there is at least one person who
cares for them. Maybe that person who cares for them doesnt show it, thats why they feel that
way, that no one cares for them. For me, I can say that the suicidal people will lessen or could I
say will disappear when all of us show love to each other. Lets us give smile when we saw
someone, youll never know that smile will give them peace in their mind. And who knows that
giving them a smile will change their mood. I attended seminar about suicide, and there is one
thing stock in my mind where, Happiness never decreases by being shared. Like what Ive
said, when we think about it, its nonsense but common, when someone experienced that giving
smile or sharing happiness to someone, theyll say, Oh, there is someone in this world cares for
me. So, thats it. Let spread our care to all the people well meet every day.
I will always view suicide as a mortal sin. We must first remember that God is the giver
of all life. Each of us has been made in God's image and likeness (Genesis 1:27) with both a
body and a soul. Therefore, life is sacred from the moment of conception until natural death,
and no one can justify the intentional taking of an innocent human life. Our Lord knew the joy
and pain, success and failure, pleasure and suffering, happiness and sorrow that come in this
life; yet, He also showed us how to live this life in the love of God and trusting in His will.
Moreover, Jesus suffered, died, and rose to free us from sin and give us the promise of
everlasting life. Through our baptism, we share a new life in the Lord. St. Paul reminds us, "You
have been purchased, and at a price. So glorify God in your body" (I Corinthians 6:20).
