THURSDAY NOTES

10/04/16
________________________________________

We have had such a great start to our school year! Our Walker
students have fallen into school-wide routines and we are making
excellent academic progress. Thank you for all your efforts at home
in reinforcing appropriate school behavior and assisting with their
homework. We find it a great pleasure to work with such fun-loving,
motivated students. During this month, our teachers have planned
for exceptional instructional activities, Be Kind Wednesdays, Field
Day, Eagle Of Month, Halloween activities, and Nevadas birthday.

We wish to extend a special thank you to all of our parents who have volunteered to assist with recess,
classrooms, open house, Snack Shack, and much, much more. We look forward to seeing you throughout
the school year, and especially at Trunk or Treat.
Mrs. Sorensen, our cafeteria supervisor has been notified that next Tuesday, October 11, 2016 is the
roll-over date on student lunches. The roll-over date is when all free/reduced students that do not have
an application on file will automatically be placed on paid status. Parents, if this applicable to your
children, please respond immediately.
Mrs. Lindley, our school aide opened the Walker Snack Shack on Wednesday, October 5th for business.
Second, third, fourth and fifth grade students during lunch recess enjoyed some refreshing snacks.
Dominos Pizza orders can be placed by calling (702) 565-3030, on online at Dominos.com* or at their
location: 971 South Boulder Highway in Henderson. Please mention our school when using the purchase
flyer form. Lucky for us Dominos will donate 20% of your order back to Walker!
PTA NEWS
Trunk or Treat is scheduled for October 21, 2016. PTA is asking for candy donations. Please put the
teacher's name on all donated candy bags. The class that collects the most donations (counted by pounds)
will receive a pizza party.
PTA needs volunteers to help out with Trunk or Treat. We need people who would like to help decorate
Treat Street, people who would like to assist with putting up signs and possibly volunteers to help out at
the Ticket Booth. If you are interested in helping, please contact PTA via email.
Also, we are starting to plan the remainder of the year, if you have an event or a suggestion that you would
like to see implemented, please email PTA.
PTA can be reached at jmarlanwalkerpta@gmail.com.
CCSD: EFFECTIVE PARENT-SCHOOL COMMUNICATION
The level of collaboration between families and educators is an important predictor of student academic
achievement. Parents and family members who establish strong, positive relationships with school staff have more
opportunities to learn about the education system and become better education advocates. Successful schoolfamily partnerships are built on mutual respect, trust, equality, and a joint vision for student achievement.

There are a number of ways you can be an active partner with your childs school:
Start the relationship rightlet school staff know you will work cooperatively with them.

Utilize Campus Portal regularly for grades, attendance, and assignment updates.
Ask your child regularly how he or she thinks things are going at school. If things are not going well, ask
his/her opinion for improvement.
Look for chances to help your child communicate his/her thoughts and feelings to teachers and others.
Make sure the school has current information about you, your family, emergency contacts, and relevant
medical information for your child.
Attend meetings, parent teacher conferences and school events.
Check in with teachers regularly, not just when theres a problem.
Know as much as you can about public education. Learn how the school system works and stay informed
about current education issues.
Let the school know you will follow up on important issues concerning your child.
Keep track of how your child is doing in the classroom. Follow up on reported problems.
Respond promptly to all communications from school.
