UPDATE FROM THE VESTRY

would like to keep the congregation informed about our

Search progress, and to let you know who will be our celebrant
until we are successful in finding our next Rector. I know I speak
for the entire Vestry (which is the Search Committee), in asking for
your patience and perseverance in the coming months. Change
is very difficult, especially after having had Fr. Hinrichs as our
leader. But we all are committed to the future of our unique little
church and congregation, so hang in there, please. You may refer
to the Oct./Nov. Schedule to see who will be our Supply Priest on
coming Sundays through the end of November. Many thanks to
Deacon Debbie for taking on a great deal of additional
responsibility.

The Search Committee will have met three, possibly four times by
Rummage Sale

the time this Messenger reaches you, and much work is done by
the members between each meeting. Thank you to all who
returned your questionnaires to help us in the process. We will
again seek a part time Rector, as that is what our current budget
allows. We are in pretty good shape financially as of the end of August, a bit over $1,000 in the black
for the year, and our fuel oil pre-pay has been factored in. We are working toward completing an
online profile, which the Diocese will circulate to see who might be interested in Christ Church
Duanesburg. Please feel free to discuss the process with any Vestry member, and let them know what
a great job they are doing!

You will have noticed the Gravestone Matters trailer which paid us a two week visit in mid-September.
Take the time to walk through the cemetery behind church to see the restoration of many very old
headstones. What a difference!
My thanks to all for your efforts to keep things going smoothly in the coming months. With Gods help,
we can do this. We know we will have that.

6 TRUTHS TO ENCOURAGE YOU DURING PASTORAL TRANSITION

Simpson, who is the pastor of Eastwood
Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Kentucky,
wrote this article for. It is my hope it provides
encouragement to us all during this transition.

1. God will be with this church at all time: You

are not forsaken; God is with your congregation. I
will never leave you or forsake you, (Hebrews 13:5).
Pastors will come and go. Only God will never leave
us. And the presence of God is more vital to the life
of the church.
2. God is in control: God works all things
according to the counsel of His will (Ephesians
1:11). Do you believe that? This pastoral transition is
not happening outside the will of God. God is
working according to the counsel of his will. So the
question is not, Who is in control? God is in
control. The question is, Will you rest in him by
trusting him?
3. God plans good out of this transition: It might
not feel good right now, but God has promised that
he works all things together for the good of His
people (Romans 8:28). Is your church part of his
people? If so, this transition is included in all things.
Therefore, you can rest assured that good will come
from it. Thats how awesome God is; even those
things that dont feel good are used for good. It
might not be the good you have in mind, but it is
good. Therefore, walk forward in faith.
4. It is okay to weep: While good will come out
of this pastoral transition, that doesnt remove the
deep sadness. Losing your pastor hurts. Im
reminded of how the Ephesian elders wept at Pauls
goodbye: And when he had said these things, he
knelt down and prayed with them all. And there
was much weeping on the part of all; they
embraced Paul and kissed him, being sorrowful
most of all because of the word he had spoken,
that they would not see his face again. And they
accompanied him to the ship (Acts 20: 36-38).

I believe the Ephesians knew that God would

be with them, that he was in control, and that he
was going to bring good out of this transition.
Nevertheless, they wept. And it is okay to weep. Its
actually a way of saying thank you to both God
and your pastor.
5. Ministry must go on: Notice what the Great
Commission does not say, Go therefore and make
disciples.if you have a pastor.
One church that I used to work with lost their
pastor. When Id call their lay leaders about a
ministry opportunity, their answer was always, Well,
you see, we just dont have a pastor right now.
They had forgotten that ministry must continue in
the interim. The Great Commission doesnt include
any conditionals.
Does ministry become a bit harder without a
pastor leading? Probably so, but if he was a good
pastor, he will have obeyed Ephesians 4: 11-12 by
equipping the saints for the work of the ministry. In
the interim, you and the lay leadership of the
church must make sure ministry continues. Get to
work!
6. The church must not scatter: Jesus promised
the flock would scatter at his crucifixion (Matthew
26: 31). For a season, that is exactly what
happened. The same often happens in churches
during pastoral transition. Because their pastor is
no longer there or ministry begins to lag, folks trickle
out. Some reasons for going might be legitimate,
but this may also be the time in which the
congregation should most strongly gather for
support and encouragement.
Recognize the temptation to scatter and work
more diligently to stay bound together in unity and
love. This will be a season of testing for you. I know
you didnt ask for it, but with Gods help, youll
endure it.

And the king will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least
of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.' (Matthew 25: 40)
Last year I had the pleasure of delivering 40 boxes to the Open Arms Church, which were 6 more than the
previous year!
It would be wonderful if we could increase the number again this year!

The shoeboxes and labels will be available in the parish hall and in the back of the church on October 30,
2016.

The shoeboxes will be collected and delivered to the collection site on November 20, 2016.

If you are able, please place a check for $7 (which covers the shipping) made out to Samaritans Purse on
top of your box (on the outside).

You can also go to the Samaritans Purse website and pay on-line. You will receive a special label that
will allow you to track your boxes and find out where they are delivered too.

The Ladies Guild generously makes sure the shipping is covered for all the boxes if needed

RUMMAGE SALE

he annual Fall Rummage Sale will be held at the Christ Church Parish Hall on Friday, October 21st,
from 4 to 7 PM and Saturday, October 22nd, from 9 AM to 2 PM with the bag sale from noon to 2 PM
that day.
We rely on our friends to help in donating items that
are in good condition. These items include clothing,
books, household goods, dishes, furniture, toys, tools,
shoes, DVD's, knick knacks and jewelry. We ask that
you do NOT contribute electronic items. The
donation drop off will be Wednesday, October 19th
and Thursday, October 20th, from 4 to 7 PM in the
Parish Hall. Please do not leave items in the sheds
during other times, as they are, at times,
overlooked.
Thanks for your help and support!
