Information letter

DEAR COLLEAGUES
We invite you to participate in the International conference on "Religion,
national identity and statehood in the Balkans in the XIX-XXI Century", which
will be held in Veliko Tarnovo University "St. St. Cyril and Methodius "on 19
and 20 November 2016 .The conference is organized by a research project by an
international team which includes Bulgarian, Russian and Serbian scientists and
academics.
MAIN TOPICS OF THE CONFERENCE

I. BALKAN CHRISTIANITY - preserving the national identity as a basis for


the resumption of statehood in the late seventeenth and early nineteenth century.
- The role of Orthodoxy in the Balkan revival (education, culture, revolutionary
ideas).
- Religions of the Balkan peoples and their place in the Ottoman Empire in
politics and literature of Russia and the West.
- Orthodoxy, Islam and Catholicism - coexistence and confrontation in the
Balkans.
II. BALKAN NATIONAL IDENTITY, restoration of statehood and the
formation of Balkan national doctrine in the nineteenth century
- The nation state in Europe and the Balkans.
- Formation of the Balkan states and their national doctrines. (Pan-Islamism-,
Ottomanism, neo-Ottomanism, pan-Turkism, Kemalism, Yugoslavism, Pan-Slav
idea and its development).
- Constitutionalism. Balkan states between Russia and the West in the nineteenth
century and early twentieth century.

III. POLITICAL CHANGES IN BALKAN COUNTRIES IN twentieth and


early twenty-first century.
- National doctrines, social and political changes in the Balkan countries during
the twentieth century.
- The role of the external factor in the problems and changes in the Balkans in
the late twentieth and early twenty-first century.
- The new global order and the Balkan religion, national identity and statehood
in the late twentieth and early twenty-first century.
Reports must be designed according to the requirements of international refereed
journals. It is envisaged that private / direct and part-time participation in
scientific forum. Stated themes and submitted reports will be approved in
advance by the organization. There will be no material beyond the announced
theme (no charge thematically) to the conference. Working languages of the
conference and binding on submitted articles are: Bulgarian, Russian and
English. The materials in finished form must be submitted by 15 October
2016 on e-mail: s.iliev@dir.bg; stivanch@yandex.ru. There will be no
extension of this deadline! Written requests to participate may precede the
dispatch of finished materials. Funds for travel, accommodation and
subsistence shall be borne entirely by the sending side. No fee is required for
participation. Will accept original and unpublished author's articles.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PREPARATION OF MATERIALS: Volume up to


36000 characters (0.85 PL) format - A4, font - Times New Roman, size of letters
- 14, line spacing - 1,5. Parameters page - indented top, bottom left and right 2.5 cm. At the beginning of each article after the original title, place a summary
in English keywords in up to 600 characters. The title is printed in the original
language and in English to the summary in capital letters without quotation
marks, underline, transfers and point. The notes are placed in the text, footnotes
on every page. It is drawing up a list of bibliography with Latin transliteration
system for each title in Cyrillic. Each author has an individual responsibility for
the facts and those developed / opinions.
