Scaffolding is generally temporary and used to support workman dirin construction of building

and therefore it is important that it be adequate and safe for workman that are using it.
1. Scaffold must be providing the work, which cannot be done safely from the ground, a
ladder or part of the building. They must be having a safe means of access.
2. Material for scaffold must be inspected before use and correction supervised by a
competent person and when being used it must be checked regularly.
3. If metal is used no part of it should be corroded.
4. The standards or up right must be vertical or lean slightly towards the building. They
must be secured at the base by either sinking it to the ground or firing to a sole plate to
displacement
MEMBERS OF SCAFFOLDING
Scaffolding frames (Main frame)
Main frame is the main item of scaffolding. it is made by hollow steel sections of circular
shapes. The common size of the main frame is 1700*1219mm. but its available in various
sizes.
Bracing
Bracing is used for fixing of two scaffolding frames in a same level. It consists of two steel
circular bars and they bare coupled together by their canters with a pin. Each one can rotate
around the pin. Its most commonly used with the size of 2198mm (length). Both these are
available in various sizes.
Joint Pin
This is used for fixing of two scaffolding frames where in two adjacent layers.
Arm Lock
this helps to lock two frames in adjacent layers.
Cat Walk Panel
this is plat form on the scaffolding frame. It is a two types, difference in the size. One is
240*4000mm and other one is 550*1800mm. first one is rest on frames. Second one can be
fixed with its hooks.

Wall Tie
it helps to tie scaffolding to the super structure to avoid over turning of the scaffolding. It
consists of a clamp on one and other end has a bolt. The clamp is fixed with scaffolding and

bolt is fixed with a whole in anchor to the super structure. The length of the wall tie can be
adjusted.
G.I. Pipes (Galvanized Iron Pipe)
Scaffolding can be erected by using G.I.Pipes only. But its very difficult. They can used to
support the scaffoldings. Its with 50 mm diameter, which is used for scaffolding.
Clamps
There are two types;
1. Fix and adjustable: - If there has two G.I.Pipes or scaffolding with a G.I.Pipes
which produce a right to one another, this type is used.
2. Free and adjustable: - This type can be used to couple two G.I.Pipes and
scaffolding frame with a G.I.Pipes which produce any angle.
Jack Base
two types of jack bases are available.

T Jack Base
2.
U Jack Base

Ratchets
It is only tool used for scaffolding. It helps to tie the clamps. Ratchet can be used
to both directions (Clock or anti clock wise). Because of that it has a lock and it can be adjusted.
