The speaker discusses the new K-12 education system implemented in the Philippines. The K-12 system includes universal kindergarten, 6 years of elementary school, 4 years of junior high school, and an additional 2 years of senior high school. This aims to improve the quality of education and reduce youth unemployment. The additional senior high school years allow students to develop skills and specialize in areas like science, arts, or agriculture to better prepare them for future work or study abroad. The K-12 system will help Filipino students who want to study overseas but were previously unqualified due to lacking 2 years of education. It will benefit lower-income families by allowing children to join the workforce earlier while still receiving a more globally competitive

A warm welcome to all present. As we all know Department of Education had implemented a new curriculum called K-12 education system under the administration of P-Noy which I guess is very crucial step of his administration. Today I Jaspreet Sohal will discourse about what K-12 Education system has in store for us. The K+12 System will basically include the universal kindergarten, 6 years of elementary, 4 years of junior high school with an additional 2 years for senior high school. This program is a product of Globalization actually which was proposed by DepEd to improve the quality of education and graduates of Philippines. According to the survey of World Bank Philippines had highest youth unemployment rate. The ultimate target of K-12 would be to reduce the youth employment rate .The two years of senior high school would provide time for students to consolidate acquired academic skills and competencies. The curriculum will allow specializations in science and technology, music and arts, agriculture and most importantly, the system aims to fully enhance and develop the students in order for them to be well-prepared especially in emotional and cognitive aspects. Through this, graduates will be able to face the pressures of their future workplaces and the high school graduates can also pursue their education abroad. As we all know that Philippine's largest export is its OFWs, the manpower itself. There are occurrences that Filipino citizens abroad would want to continue their education abroad but often get rejected because of the lacking two years. The K-12 system will help vanish the disappointment and Filipinos instead of only sticking to labor force can also become foreign students abroad. The lower middle class of our society will definitely be benefited because their children can join labor force after they graduate their school but the only trade off would be the additional two years.K-12 education system will not bring the qualitative education but will also match our education system with the global standards of education .These additional two years can bring wonders to our economy the GDP will rise, unemployment will decrease and there would be numerous opportunities for students. I think this is the time for us to support the decision of government rather than criticizing it because according to Albert Einstein "Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school."
