2. GENERIC STRUCTURE
a.Thesis : Introduces the topic and shows speaker or writers position; Outlines of the
arguments to be presented.
b.Arguments : It consists about Point and Elaboration Point, states the main argument.
Elaboration: develops and supports each point of argument
c.Conclusion : Reiteration (restatement), restates speaker or writers position
3. DOMINANT TENSES
a.Focus on generic human and non human participants.
b.Use mental processes. It is used to state what the writer or speaker thinks or feels about
something, for example: realize, feel, etc.
c.Need material processes. It is used to state what happens, for example: has polluted, etc.
d.Use of simple present tense.
e.Use of relational processes.
f.Use of internal conjunction to state argument.
g.Reasoning through casual conjunction or nominalization.

4.EXAMPLE
Is smoking good for our life?
Before we are going to smoking, lets see what is contents of cigarette? Cigarette
are contain nikotine, benzene, arsenic, tar, acetone, formaldehyde, and carbon
monoxide that so dangerous for our life. It can make lung cancers, hair loss,
wrinkles and aging. And the important research is 50 thousands people die every
year in Britain as direct result of smoking
Ninety percent of lung cancers are caused by smoking, If we smoke five
cigarettes a day, we are six times more likely to die of lung cancer than a non
smoker. Additionally, the children of smoker are more likely struck bronchitis and
pneumonia.
Smoking is really good for cigarette factorys because they can get much money
from cigarette sales, but smoking is not good for smoker.

Is smoking good for our life?
