When the Gods have been reduced to symptoms humanity is in trouble - Jung 1959

1. Context
This paper lays out the framework for a multi year ethnographic study of trauma patients outcomes
from Shamanic encounters and the ability of Jungian therapy to assist in assimilating the irrational
feeling states and concomitant symbology released in the cathartic penetration of such an encounter.
With the PTSD population growing and trauma causing situations on the rise more sophisticated
and efficient means of overcoming the debilitating aspects of trauma are needed. Traditionally the
typical demographic patients are from enforcement institutions or first responders, where as a group
they are exposed to much higher levels of violence and emotionally distressing situations. However
the patient types are widening in what appears the consequences of an ever more brutal world,
whereby seemingly normal people snap and commit acts of apparently unprovoked gross public
malevolence. Though it is military combatants that are the prime case to have historically borne the
brunt of empire ambitions, be it their own or neighbours. As a group they have the longest history
of post incident trauma reconciliation and acclimatisation to village life. Many factors in the sociopolitical context of ancient warriors return and assimilation into peace time cultures have become
defunct, now that war is no longer unanimously adored. Exemplar of this was the rather inhumane
treatment of returning Vietnam vets by the hippie generation 1, these effronteries towards vets made
traditional reintegration highly problematic. It was further exacerbated by the guerrilla like tactics
such as baby booby traps of south east Asian warfare theatres which inflicted enough horror in a
single tour of duty for a lifetime of therapy.
Concurrently the notion that an ordinary civilian lifestyle now approaches similar levels of
biological stresses and that even well people are quietly assimilating repressed material to a similar
critical mass as trauma patients is emerging. The inhumane levels of persistent anxiety that prevails
in many toxic environments of modernity exceed biological limitations of stress coping. The
general level of neurosis in western urban environments can be observed in the anomic cultural
stereotypes that are used for social, business and political communication frameworks. This
contraction into superficial types and coarse grained projections of the other, leads to a break down
in the fidelity of cultural motifs and societies ability to host shared meaning becomes exterminated.
This destruction of public myth and the concomitant contracted archetypal pool can deliver no more
wisdom than intractably neotenous2 retention bound solutions to a hungry soul. Modern Western
cultures are completely incapable of anything more profound than a socio-political compliance
bible and have little chance at something as complicated as trauma repair. Sadly, now that the
economic rationalists have completed the shift to the commoditisation of human beings there is
insufficient compassionate depth in health care systems to provide personalised treatment. Due to
disingenuous industrialised allocation of funds and focus, the typical outcome is a suitcase of pills
to repress the symptomatic indicators. This has then lead to a new class of patient termed
treatment resistant, which is really little more than an admittance of failure. Even the term is
another indicator of a domination model enforcement language that relentlessly stuffs all aspects of
the psyche into narrow homogeneous demonised but pharmacologically profitable stereotypes.
1 American heroes returned home after the Vietnam War to be greeted by an angry and apathetic country. The effects
of PTSD gradually went away for a select group of fortunate veterans after they were reunited with family and
friends. Some were not so lucky and the effects of PTSD began to do serious damage to those unable to receive any
support or help Haley, S. A. (1985). Some of my best friends are dead: Treatment of the post-traumatic stress
disorder patient and his family. Family Systems Medicine, 3(1), 17-26.
2 Neoteny is the retention, by adults in a species, of traits previously seen only in juveniles
(pedomorphosis/paedomorphosis), and is a subject studied in the field of developmental biology.

A tour through the history of healing sciences will show this has not always been the case and is not
the case still in some areas where western pharmacology has not snuffed out the local healing
traditions1.
If you are to believe the media and the pharmaceutical industrys promotions, then you would be led
to think that anxiety was one of the most pressing scourges facing humanity. I want to offer an
alternative view2.
My basic thesis is as simple as it is profound: As our ancestors began to experience the wonders of
consciousness so did they begin to experience the terrors of anxiety. One could not come into
existence without the other. They are, in fact, the necessary twins that together, constitute our
humanity. 1

So the contemporary disease paradigm with only a pharmacological solution of western medicine is
agnostic of the fundamentals of history of the human condition. As such the reintroduction of
archaic epigenetic technologies will broaden the metaphysical landscape of the healing journey.
One of the main objectives of this experiment, is to observe and analyse how archaic archetypal
activation technologies can be leveraged in Jungian therapeutic environments. Jung was a master of
the healing technique by empowering the natural talents of his patients, which in time brush aside
the psychological collateral damage of extensively rigid and primary instinct response based coping
posture. As seen in the Spielren episode he nurtured the psychoanalyst in her which was largely
responsible for overcoming her manic episodes from childhood patriarchal violence,
In this episode with Spielrein, we can see the seeds of Jungs unique teleological method of healing
(i.e. within the present neurosis, look for the emergent, more complete personality).2

1.1.

Hypothesis

The hypothesis states that the Jungian therapeutic environment can benefit from the cathartic
penetration, temporary dislodging and the de-concretisation of primary instinct response coping
archetypes that have stagnated, and become ossified and distorted by habituation long after their
usefulness in coping with the original trauma is over.
These coarse grained archetypes solidified before more sophisticated pathways to healing were
possible and as such these triage mechanisms now retard healing by taking up the psychological
territory that more resolution based archetypes need. The archaic latent healing archetypal
activation mechanism has no parallel in western science and there is a high probability this archaic
technology can profoundly extend the analytical material, similar to dreams but more lucid to the
patient. This visceral grasp of the unconscious material pursuant of any titanic emotional release
also engenders a sense of malleability of the mental landscape that is helpful in the post encounter
therapy session.
To arrive at a profound understanding of the architecture of the psyche a multi disciplinary
approach is critical. Much of the metaphysical denuding of modern medicine is the biological
reductionist blindness causing a contraction of the personal history window and concomitant
dislocation from species history and its myth. Pre civilisation cultures had a direct gnostic
engagement with nature, that has a systemic expansive transcendent function enabler. Bizarrely
modernity in the West has, with unparalleled bellicosity eliminated this ontological analytical
ability. This within reach genetically inherited material known as the Jungian Collective
Unconscious holds a vast storehouse of historical experiential information in the forms of recurring

patterns called Archetypes3 whose operational theatre are hosted by mythological narratives. It is
proposed to leverage the more potent archaic latent healing archetype activation power in
shamanism. Whilst the ritualistic practice may look primitive, if not even superstitious witch doctor
nonsense that was banished from medicine in the 18th Century, the exigent need for outcomes for
TRPTSD1 sufferers transcends any cultural snobbery. Science must follow the evidence2.

1.2.

Research Objectives

Observe using a structured scientific methodology the effects Shamanic encounters have on
PTSD patients.

Experiment with the outputs of these encounters as black box inputs into Jungian therapy.

Determine what value, if any, the purging rituals have to enable more effective post
encounter therapy sessions.

Determine the reliability of the encounters to temporarily dislodge the primacy certitude of
the current trauma coping posture and for what periods.

Measure the reliability of the encounter to trigger the transcendent function and activate
healing archetypes that drive towards resolution.

Experiment with the use of encounter released symbols and images as an input into a hybrid
form of Jungian dream analysis.

Through a longitudinal study, measure the resilience of jungle inspired insights to translate
into practical patterns of behaviour back at home.

Develop a codified procedural manual for patient engagement with the entire jungle
encounter life cycle, to enable both patient self empowerment and analyst transportability.

Observe any difference in the ability of the patients to encompass the metaphysical lesson
inherent in the trauma.

Develop a PTSD Epigenetic Technology Toolbox.

Contribute to the growing body of clinical research by surfacing any measurable therapeutic
usefulness of traditional healing paradigms discovered.

1.3.

Experimental Ethics

I begin by making a strident disclaimer that I am NOT an advocate, nor in fact, even think
psychedelic drugs are a good idea3. Dirty lab party drugs are a scourge of the west and have
destroyed the minds of an entire generation and worse the war on drugs is a polarised futility, as
neither address the main issue of, why people take drugs in the first place. However science cannot
be retarded by personal prejudices and if the evidence leads us somewhere it is our moral
responsibility to follow it4. This experiment has a well defined boundary around the Shamanic
1 Treatment Resistant Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
2 These findings suggest participants may have experienced positive psychological and behavioral changes in
response to this therapeutic approach, and that more rigorous research of ayahuasca-assisted therapy for problematic
substance use is warranted. Thomas G., Lucas P., Capler R., Tupper K., Martin G., Ayahuasca-Assisted Therapy for
Addiction: Results from a Preliminary Observational Study in Canada Current Drug Abuse Reviews, 2013.

4 Steven Weinberg, Nobel Laureate, Co-Inventor of the CERN Standard Model of Particle Physics, famously said Well you have this evidence, it does not matter whether you like it or whether it fits your theory, it is there so you

practises as science is not psychedelia phantasy, and the Mocapo 1 is simply a black box2 in the
analytical chain. Absolutely no dialogue whatsoever concerning pharmacology regimes will be
entered into. These are completely under the control of the patients chosen medical doctor and
shaman. This scientist recognises the personal sovereignty of each patient to choose trauma healing
options outside mainstream culture, particularly for the treatment resistant class, and is simply
applying some in-situ analytical rigour to the front brain assimilation process.
The hunch to undertake this experiment was from assessments on previous informal exposures with
PTSD patients in the Amazon. Given they have already chosen to undertake a non mainstream,
arduous and potentially tumultuous experience3 the added risk of some post encounter Jungian
psychotherapy is extremely low. In fact it could be argued it actually reduces the overall risk to the
patient. The therapy model is based on established practice models and the experiment is mainly to
replace dream symbology material with the more visceral feeling state symbology released in a
Shamanic encounter.
Patients will be given a full briefing of therapy model as outlined in Section 2. Therapy based reexperiencing of the original trauma situation in a controlled environment has been practised since
Gestalt and the Vietnam Vets in the 1970's and is now routine. Obviously the usual empathy and
awareness of trauma indicators in moving towards a personal resolution are mandatory.
Given the logistical constraints of travelling to the Amazon routine intensive face to face therapy is
unlikely. However weeks and months visits are usual, given the logistical fuss, a type of sabbatical
of short term compression to position a ready storehouse of releasable analytical material is
planned. Further email based follow-up services will be offered in the longer than normal periods
between therapy sessions.
In general this therapy will offer a more effective means of assimilating the tumultuous emotions
released in a Shamanic encounter and assist in translating both western cultural agnostic archetypes
and reduce the Amazonian unfamiliarity effect4. This author contends that a mechanism to reduce
the certitude, with which PTSD patients confuse stagnated primary triage responses with resolution
pathways, is to activate the latent healing mechanisms of the unconscious archetypes. However the
shadow cannot be wrestled and awakened without due consideration for the consequences, for
stumbling around in the psyche is more dangerous than leaving the current trauma coping approach
in place5. As such a vigorously tumultuous experience needs a grounding integration into
contemporary cultural patterns, which is a core objective of ASIT.
Whilst there is nothing as elaborate as double blind placebo trials 6 possible in the jungle, and in any
case the ASIT Research Framework has black boxed the pharmacology, detailed case notes and
academic grade papers will document the journey over the next several years. The scientific
experiment will define the usefulness of this archaic and contemporary convergence of
psychological technologies using empirical metrics defined in Section 3, operate under the
American Psychology Association Clinical Practice Guidelines7 and use Symptomology
Taxonomies from DSM IV8.

Comparative Multidisciplinary Validation-A GPS for the Psyche

The author introduces the concept of a GPS for the psyche. Similar to the positional acquisition
function of a SatNav systems but in this case each satellite is analogous to the various fields of the
sciences and humanities. The philosophical imperative is based on the Renaissance concept of a
Universal Man1. Relevant fields chosen for juxtaposition mentioned in section 4 are Cosmology,
Quantum Mechanics, Evolution, History, Art, Technology, Alchemy and Metaphysics.

As seen in the graphic each domain of knowledge is a satellite and collectively they assist in
refining and validating hypothesis through both more comprehensive and profound vistas and
higher vector accuracy in a known experimental position. A short walk through the history of
human discoveries that encompass a grander reality will demonstrate the unproductive nature of any
contemporary orthodoxy and the usual predictable politico-intellectual enforcement. The early
astronomers that dispelled the Churches earth centre universe, Bruno. Copernicus, Kepler and
Galileo are an obvious example of the superstition based, violent repression of evolving knowledge.
This experiment goes beyond the epistemologically constipated nature of mainstream,
pharmacologically based psychiatry and as such is prone to deviations from the experimental
inaccuracies by virtue of trail blazing tolerances, typical in any pioneering enterprise. Thus taking
science deeper into the arcane and the irrational demands rigorous deployment of in-field research
and analytical disciplines. Here the Psyche GPS offers a broad multi domain correlation framework
that reductionist genres vistas are too constrained and speculative philosophers meanderings tend to

generate what Jung called1

Premonitions of future discoveries in the psychic sphere expressed itself in phantasmagoric
speculations.4
Neither parties offer a profound nor accurate picture of the psyche but do offer the quarry for
polarised analytical material. This absence of workable cultural based frameworks available for the
discoverer is the greatest issue facing the pioneer and those that lack both courage and acumen are
typically trapped by mainstream dogma that leads to a high probability of experimental inaccuracy
from regressive group think delusion. There are a significant number of highly prevalent cognitive
biases that can denude high fidelity measurement which adds further risk to the quality of the
research. So these varying fields offer comparative juxtapositions that collectively offer pattern
correlation to orientate speculative hypothesis. Because, until there is evidence based validation
ideas are no more worthy than hunches, but without left field hunches science does not expand and
many of the revolutionary break throughs were antagonistic to contemporary science hegemony of
their day.
A further noumenal information validation mechanism is the scalar pattern correlation between 10 -25
and 10+30 as seen in Lord Rees Ouroboros in Section 4.1. This alludes to the unconscious as having
a high probability of the being the intellectual eco-system lynch-pin that can enable the transcendent
function and trigger concrescence.

1.5.

Brief Commentary on Archaic Healing

Given the black box informational feed, systems analytical model being used commentary on any
Shamanistic intra genre information is out of scope and not offered. There are numerous authors 5
that have addressed this area, in this scientific based research only the latent archetypal activation
and resultant malleability of the psyche pursuant of such a dramatic cathartic penetration is of
interest. Thus the black box outputs of the Shamanic encounter are being used as inputs into
Jungian based therapy without any need for analysis of its intra-mechanics 2. There are quite a few
mechanisms of generating a cultural mind shutdown, physical ordeal; hypnotic chanting and
drumming; poison ordeal; combat zone exposure; extreme sports; rock star sex; etc., with sadly, the
contemporary distortion of westerners focus towards pharmacology, in this case psychedelics.
These self medicated sorties to the Amazon by the McKenna brothers bought Amazonian
Shamanism to the west and since a number of medical applications have been developed and
advocated by MAPS.3 However the pharmacological skew of the west restricts a broader
knowledge of the entire healing process of which neuro-chemical manipulation is but a part.
The objective of science is to bring method, metrics, evidence, repeatability and peer review to the
hypothesis at hand. It is not to entertain readers with speculative psuedo-analysis and offer feel
good outcomes that are typical output of emotive based genres like new age and psychedelia. To
this end this multi year, multi patient experiment will follow the Jungian path of a broad
metaphysical landscape but a clinically empirical validation of unconscious archetypes
constellations at play4.
Most western mythology systems have been destroyed by the blind forces of Christian political
genocide. Much of the archaic wisdom, dating back to circa upper palaeolithic times was held in

the pagan religious systems, but now, given their destruction, only exist in the Amazonian Shamanic
abodes1. Whilst these are foreign to the western psyche there are strong correlations to alchemy
which is the inheritor of pagan, gnostic and secret mystery schools like Eulysian, mainly through
the Greek mythological lineage.
After spending time in the Amazon I have developed a hunch there is a probability that a Shamanic
renaissance is in its early stages, as many traditional healers are emerging from the deeper jungle
citing their ancestors, that a convergence of all healing technologies is imminent. Regardless of this
comforting piece of folklore, the ability of this form of ordeal encounter with the unconscious to
activate dormant healing archetypes is unknown in the west and in light of psychiatrys impotency
to help the treatment resistant class, this archaic epigenetic technology has become worthy of
scientific research2.
1.5.1.

Previous Taxonomy Codification of Archaic Healing Regimes

There have been several genres of pre-history religion that have emerged into the western GreekoRoman societies recently e.g. Vedic, Celtic Pagan, Tibetan Buddhist, and American Indian seem to
be the main examples3.
Of these the Navajo Indians have experienced extraordinary
anthropological research4, including the Senior Jungian, Douglas Sandner whose 5 stage Shamanic
encounter framework is outlined in Section 1.5.2 below. He spent 15 years codifying their
symbology and healing frameworks and produced sufficient material to provide a transportable
taxonomy suitable for mapping the Amazonian systems. These portray an archetypal eco-system
with a rich theatrical ritual patient engagement model that draws mental sufferers into landscapes of
the psyche that offer an expansion of personal horizons through latent healing archetypal activation.
The other source of a symbology framework is Joseph Campbell 5 seminal work on world
mythology which leverages Navajo research and portrays the narratives with arcane symbology.
The Jungians in their usual style to be operating in the deep end of the pool have codified the
history of symbology in a web interactive format at ARAS6 and hardback encyclopaedia.
There is a high possibility that the atrophied state of healing archetypes is born of a metaphysical
impotency of western psychiatry and the assumption ridden epistemology of the Cartesian dualist
medical model.
Personal discovery of a participatory consciousness became the key to overcoming the Cartesian
split between modern consciousness and nature6.
The contraction of ones personal history window caused by the bleak impoverished socio-cultural
symbology further exacerbates neotenous retention. The opposite occurs in native traditions where
healers use ancestor worship as a means of packaging the history of those that have suffered
1 Given the size of the jungle it appears as though the Shamans were able to continue retreating deeper into the wild
and became geographically abstracted from the Conquistador genocide.
2 There is a growing amount of research on the development of PTSD and its various treatments. The fact that many
people who suffer from PTSD struggle with the currently approved therapeutic options that are available to them
suggests that we need to start exploring alternative strategies to treat this disorder. With the large number of
veterans returning home from war that may have or will develop PTSD, we must have a diverse framework of
therapy and integration in place for them. Consideration of Ayahuasca for the Treatment of Post-traumatic Stress
Disorder, JESSICA L. NIELSON, PH.D., JULIE D. MEGLER, MSN, NP-BC
3 These systems have been researched and portrayed to the western psyche such that they are now part of popular
culture, albeit in their superficial form.
4 It was a common joke amongst Anthropologists that the demographics of a 20th Century Navajo family on a
reservation was 1 male, 1 female, 2.7 children and 1.3 Anthropologists.
5 Joseph Campbell did an excellent series of lectures towards the end of his life at the New York Arts Club as well as a
series of interviews with Bill Moyle at Skywalker Ranch. Author comment-in these interviews he demonstrated the
usefulness of myth to be at peace with ones role in the human drama.

similarly before them to bring each individual torment into a known human category. This
engagement with the path of those that have suffered the same malady as them in the form of the
heroes struggle offers a proceduralisable, packaged slice of unconscious ready to be assimilated into
front brain activity. Thus they can achieve the activation of a latent resolution archetypes that the
patient can populate personal content into, for the assimilation of the information emanating from
the inner wound. Of course all this is the power of mythological narrative.
1.5.2.

The Sandner 5 stage Shamanic Encounter Framework 1

Stage one: Preparation or purification. Before the vital symbols are presented and utilized, the
medicine man or shaman, as well as the patient, undergo purifying rituals to prepare themselves for
the occasion. Often the spectators, the room, or the ceremonial grounds are purified as well.
Purification is achieved by washing, sweating, taking emetics, dressing in special clothes, and
abstaining from certain everyday activities such as eating specific foods, sexual intercourse, or
certain kinds of work.
Stage two: Presentation or Evocation. After the purification the pertinent symbolic images are made
and presented in visible or audible form. Taste, smell, and touch may play a part in this stage. The
symbols must be presented in a vivid and dramatic manner, as for example through icons, statues,
prayer sticks, or sand paintings, or in the rhythmic chanting of songs and prayers. . .In this way the
symbolic presence becomes real. Once evoked, the supernatural powers or divine beings invest the
symbols, the medicine man, and the patient with their numinous presence. The way is prepared for
the culminating action.
Stage three: Identification the high point of the ceremony. The medicine man or shaman and the
patient and sometimes even the spectators, too become identified or intimately invested with the
powers that have been evoked and reified. The medicine man symbolically becomes the
supernatural power, and at the same time may take into himself the evil or bad part of the patient
that is causing the sickness. The medicine man is exalted into a powerful being, what Jung called
the mana personality. If the ceremony miscarries at this time, both doctor and patient risk being
harmed by power that is no longer under ritual control.
Stage four: Transformation. The healer uses the extraordinary power he now has in the eyes of the
patient and the onlookers to bring about the desired good results. He wins the battle, banishes the
disease, expels the evil, counteracts the sorcery, or recovers the soul. Symbolically transformed, the
patient believes that actual restoration to health and harmony will soon follow.
Stage five: Release. Finally there must be rituals to release the patient, the medicine man, and the
audience from the powerful symbolic force they have activated, and to return them to a normal state
of being. Having experienced the transforming power of the symbol, the patient must divest himself
of it. This may be done by special songs or prayers, or by restrictions against sleeping or cleansing
himself until a certain time has passed. This brings the cycle to symbolic healing to a close.
Similar scenarios of healing could be found in the ethnographic literature from other cultures. The
work of Campbell shows content would be different, but the symbolic structure remains similar. As
Cassirer says Over and over again we find confirmation of the fact that man can apprehend his
being only in so far as he can make it visible in the images of his gods. By the presentation of the
symbols man is put in touch with his inner resources. If the healing images are strong enough, if the
medicine man is skillful and unwavering in his purpose, and if the patients involvement is deep and
urgent, then healing can be confidently expected to occur. 7.

Archetypal Information Extraction

Given the general symbol illiteracy of the west and that this is the language of the unconscious
archetypes it is little wonder the cultural mind needs outside help to re-activate this foundational
psychological technology. Especially in a trauma patient the unconscious landscape, where it is a
wild jungle, with all the compensatory skewing of the a dysfunctional archetypal eco-system. This
is another barrier created by neoteny tending cultures, that is, the unconscious is dangerous to the
untrained introspector and the absence of epigenetic technologies makes it similar to wandering
aimlessly around the jungle. Sooner or later something will eat you up and you will be trapped by
the power of a skewed extremist archetype which will break the egos ability to reconvene the
consciousness assemblage point. Next stop, the Gorillas belly (asylum)1.
There is no easy answer to comprehending those forces outside ourselves, it is a lifelong journey,
but through persistent diligence, a curious mind, epigenetic technologies and a workable map of the
processes of the psyche it is possible for anyone to assimilate more profound knowledge.

1.6.

Introduction of the Pearl Syndrome as a Trauma Descriptor

Trauma is defined as a naturally occurring bifurcation of consciousness necessary in order to

continue to operate in any extreme scenario. Fundamentally, because it came from a single state
into a duality it is possible for it to return, but not in the form it left.
Like a Pearl which is a glossy response to an irritant is to cover it in layers of chemicals. This
primal response of the unconscious is to find a way to limit the emotional pain of any trauma by
firstly setting up boundaries to exclude the rawness, then finding methods of avoiding it.
Fundamental unconscious healing seems to be restricted to a coarse grained triage style of modus
operandi. By the force of habituation the buildup of the glossy exterior hides the existence of the
original irritant or trauma. Layer upon layer of polished gloss of the pearl are little more than an
unsophisticated reaction to a foreign body that can't be ejected, like a splinter. Habituation gives
rise to certitude and afford legitimacy to lingering emotional postures instead of recalibrating it to
its useful place as a temporary triage tactic. ASIT is designed to challenge the pseudo legitimacy of
the current state coping posture.
To survive in the short term the experience is repressed in situ and is a natural function of the
survivalistic aspect of the psyche. However unlike pre-modernity, the palaeolithic and the bronze
age characterised by constant empire wars, the returned vets had the a more coherent post combat
re-integration, time to rest and heal, due to far reduced life pressures and a legitimacy of their role
as a defender by the wider community accepted.
With a high historical correlation, today back in civilian life the dark, the combat repressed side of
the paradoxes play out. The warrior brings back many demons from the front line that can't be
tamed by the narrowness of suburban life or a meds check. So without any external communities of
empathy the means of returning to the norm is put beyond them and skewed dysfunctional mental
worlds are created to offer a coping landscape i.e. the Pearl. Layers of gloss over the original
irritant cover (repress) the original trauma, however the analogy also indicates it also increases in

trauma with intractable certitude1.

There is a natural genetic and artificial epigenetic technologies usable in the life cycle of trauma to
healing, and like many human cycles, differing archetypes are utilised at differing stages of the
cycle. The primary response of the survival instinct is as critical in a triage or combat scenario as it
is useless back home years later. This parking of trauma out of the way temporarily is necessary
initially, however the sooner it is assimilated into hygienic psychological structures the quicker and
more comprehensive the assimilation and the lower the probability of the trauma turning into a
Tsunami2.
However long term sufferers are well past such elegant early interventions. So the added
complications for them are that the asymmetrical meshed layers from the distorted long term coping
approach, have hived off into a Jungian Semi Autonomous Complex over the years. This schism
fabricated by the shadows cognitive noise, reduces resources available to resolution based strategies
and prevents alternative creative solutions from becoming apparent. Because of this, primary
responses are able to self legitimise and masquerade as usable long term coping posture or even
cures whilst all the time becoming more malignant as their place in the healing cycle becomes more
redundant. Thus the original intent of triage, to bear the blow and position for healing is distorted
into a clumsy extension of primal responses that goes from important to helpful to retarding healing
to toxic as the natural healing cycle progresses.
1.6.1.

Pearl Syndrome exacerbates Neoteneous Retention

In an industrialised-medical approach personal techniques have been eliminated by the economic

rationalists of the 90's and thus patients are now a commodity, like Orwellian factory workers.
Without a dramatic intervention using epigenetic technologies the Pearl continues to be polished 3
but alas the the human effort to get to the original irritant is extensive and not deemed cost effective
by the dominant socio-political paradigms of medical modernity.
Coincidental with this is the current irrational push of what is known vernacularly as the Nanny
State towards disempowerment of individuals, which is directly retarding activation of the adult
psychological archetypes. In biology, Neoteny offers examples of this retention of pubescent
characteristics into the adult life form, with typically the retardation of its potential as the figural
consequence. Contemporary society does not provide epigenetic infrastructure in the form of
coherent archetypal growth opportunities and not only fails in its duties to nurture their people but
actively engages in disinformation for perpetuating traditional power bases, thus exacerbating
unconscious confusion4.
There is a high correlation between the low maturity of primary response archetypes and current
architected superficial pubescent stereotypes of modernity. In as much as their access to
information about the actual nature of the human condition is dramatically denuded and their
compensatory certitude is defined by cartoon grade metaphysics and social models, as peddled by
the media. Whilst these cosy materialist fantasies offer a temporary hiding place for the shadow
they directly inhibit the psyche from reaching out for a psychological antidote.

1 It is a bizarre function of the mind to afford familiarity, regardless how toxic to the psyche, the preponderate
dominator position, that can only be described as some sort of neural intensity war.
2 Modern agencies who have staff on the front line now begin de-briefing sessions within 24 hours.
3 Every white pill adds another layer of chemicals.
4 Even a brief tour through Noam Chomsky will validate the consequences of craven hegemonies.

1.6.2.

Trauma Protection System TPS

Defined as the Cognitive Operating System or class of neural firing patterns that supports the
Jungian Semi-autonomous Complexes. Schism is a natural function, whereby it filters the
emotional rawness from an embedded trauma experience such that a coarse grained triage coping
homeostasiss can be derived. Extensive cognitive dissonance is difficult to withstand long term
and a protective certitude function overrides the raw view of the pearl irritant or the original
trauma. This can occur even within 24 hours but is prolonged by anyones emotional stamina and
their ability to endure brutality without the need for immediate coarse grained comprehension. The
trust levels any patient has in their own TPS is intractable and many western psychiatric practices
unknowingly prolong its reign through a desensitising pharmacology that retards the healing
archetypes activation and concomitant symbology based resolution information release.
The phenomenology of the TPS can be further evidenced as the psychological mechanisms arising
when confronting core disturbed feelings, typical are denial, distortion, deflection, minimising,
aggression etc., these are indicators of a psychological defence in depth layers, based on proximity
to pearl irritant. This guarding mechanism is directly pursuant of the establishment of a semiautonomous complex as a legitimising construct of certitude. Meaning that the primary response
takes on a pseudo permanence and inhibits movement through the healing cycle from a triage to
rehabilitation to resolution stage, similar to a physical injury where differing medical technologies
are used are various healing stages. A doctor uses a cast to hold the a broken leg in position, but
removes it 6 weeks later and then sends them to rehab, whilst in psychology they are trained to
learn to live with a permanent cast even though the leg is healed. Even worse because of the lack of
exercise the leg begins to atrophy making rehab even all the harder. The TPS is another neotenous
retention tending class of archetypes, in that it is portends a false homoeostasis as sufficient.
1.6.3.

Measuring Cognitive Atrophy

Studies done on people held in inhuman places of captive deprivation for extended periods of time
demonstrate they suffer from many cognitive impairments among them the inability to cope with
intense and fast moving environments that demand consuming perceptive engagement1. This
degradation of environmental information processing is at the basis of panic attacks, which are in
their basic form an inability to determine ones place in the situational context. This atrophy which
is also correlationally causal to agoraphobia is due to dysfunctional filtering and physiological
hyper-vigilance exacerbating the triggering of primal response (flight of fight) through stress
projections2. These projections, similar to snake awareness in a swamp don't wait for pattern
1 Cognitive: impaired memory and concentration; confusion and disorientation; intrusive thoughts (flashbacks) and
memories; denial (i.e. that the event has happened); hyper-vigilance and hyper-arousal.
Emotional: shock and numbness; fear and anxiety (but panic is not common), helplessness and hopelessness;
dissociation (feeling numb and switched off emotionally); anger (at anybody perpetrators, themselves and the
authorities); anhedonia (loss of pleasure in doing that which was previously pleasurable); depression (a reaction to
loss); guilt (e.g. at having survived if others died, and for being taken hostage);
Social: withdrawal; irritability; avoidance (of reminders of the event).
Denial (i.e. a complete or partial failure to acknowledge what has really happened) has often been maligned as a
response to extreme stress, but it has survival value (at least in the short term) by allowing the individual a delayed
period during which he/she has time to adjust to a painful reality. Two extreme reactions have also been noted,
namely, frozen fright and psychological infantilism. The former refers to a paralysis of the normal emotional
reactivity of the individual, and the latter reaction is characterized by regressed behaviour such as clinging and
excessive dependence on the captors. Kidnapping and hostage-taking: a review of effects, coping and resilience,
David Alexander and Susan Klien, Journal of Royal Society Medicine. 2009.
2 As an example, the healing ritual may decrease the fear of having a specific affliction like spirit possession, and this
decreased fear will dampen the vicious cycles that maintain distress, by decreasing both anxiety itself and hypervigilance for symptoms thought to indicate possession, and by decreasing the tendency to attribute experienced

recognition input, that is neurologically too slow, but constantly push out snake profiles looking for
a match1. Because the unconscious is wired to operate at about 3 times the speed of the neo-cortex,
its primary response moderation function is much of the daily toil of the ego. However in high
stress situations this post sense processing is discarded due to the inherent survival risks, and in
PTSD the hyper-vigilance inhibits the return of this logic. A sophisticated intellectual response is a
luxury and needs low stress mental landscapes, particularly for the less effective PTSD cognitive
engines that are atrophied from collateral damage of skewed and stagnated archetypal eco-systems.
With this fundamental risk based, hyper-vigilance constant projection mechanism triggering, it
shuts down the more self reflective arm chair luxury cognitive patterns and the Merry-Go-Round of
symptomology is erratically triggered until the patient is caught up in yet another out of control
cognitive storm.
The extent of this atrophy can be gauged in a number of ways but mainly through how measured
and accurate a patients response to cognitively and emotionally intense environments is. The more
they regress to superstition or avoidance based on coarse grained perceptive the more they are
atrophied and the less chance they have of deploying high fidelityhuman contact postures. It is
obvious a dysfunctional perceptive engine is going to feed false data to the brain for processing.
The Section 2.4.10 outlines the epigenetic technology strategy being developed to retrain these
atrophied cognitive functions.
1.6.4.

Broken Record Symptomology Merry-Go-Round

Faulty closed loops of learned behaviour act like a broken record and basically stop the song from
playing on2.
The traumatic event is persistently re experienced in one (or more) of the following ways:
(1)
Recurrent and distressing recollections of the event, including images, thoughts, or
perceptions.
(2)

Recurrent distressing dreams of the event.

(3)
Acting or feeling if the traumatic event were recurring (includes a sense of reliving the
experience, illusions, hallucinations, and dis-associative flashback episodes, including those that
occur on awakening or when intoxicated).
(4)
Intense psychological distress at exposure to internal or external cues that symbolize or
resemble an aspect of the traumatic event.
(5)
Physiological reactivity on exposure to internal or external cues that symbolize or resemble
an aspect of the traumatic event8.
The overall cognitive intensity of this symptomology is such that it becomes the mindscape ecosystem lynch pin to the patients life world and this aids and abets a distorted legitimacy, where
symptoms to possession. That is, believing one is getting better or cured changes expectations along with attentional
and interpretive processes including body and mind surveillance which, in turn, may have profound effects on
recovery. Hinton D. and Kirmayer L., Local responses to trauma: Symptom, affect, and healing, Transcultural
Psychiatry 2013 50: 607. Authors comment in other words measure both the internal and external worlds.
1 Jungle combat operations require similar sustained enemy contact projections.
2 In PTSD, the brain fails to appropriately consolidate and integrate episodic memories into the semantic memory
system. The memory and its associated emotions become trapped in the hippocampus, so that whenever the adverse
memory is triggered, it is recalled as if the traumatic event is being re-experienced. The resulting hyper-arousal
leads many trauma victims to develop maladaptive coping mechanisms. In an attempt to prevent stimulation of
intense fear, they seek ways, such as substance abuse, to avoid or numb out to triggers. Jessica L. Nielson, Ph.D.

nursing, not resolving is the modus operandi. Section 2.4.4 discusses alternative psychological
continuums drawn from the patients pre-trauma aspirations. Though now highly atrophied, they
can be retrained and follow Jungs lead in bringing out hidden latent potential in some form of
profitable personal industry. Which in turn gives the patient both confidence and cognitive skills to
step out of the loop and take on more fulfilling life challenges. This fresh approach opens the
psyche to grander places and breaks the broken record of the victim archetypes false comfort.

1.7.

The Pharmacological Distortion

As with all white pill remedies there is only limited healing available, as many just dull the
symptomatic attributes temporarily. Whilst of great benefit in the triage stage reliance on
medication that dulls the voice of the shadow will not discover any resolution pathway, but stumble
around in an internal maze of increasing hopelessness and toxic mind noise.
There have been many western intellectuals that have aided and abetted the body/mind dichotomy.
This middle ages mechanistic framework leads to dissociative alienation of natural healing
mechanisms and a pseudo replacement based on artifice. As artifice is not grounded in human
mythology or history this introduces high levels of interpretive error in areas of therapeutic
relevance and elegance of any contrived trauma resolution1.
The treatment of anxiety which is a natural drive of the learning/growing function 2 is inhibited by
medication programs that suitably numbs the symptomatic framework and are of value only in the
short term. Whilst it is common place in modernity to fallaciously apply short sighted chemical
fixes to the shadow3, which is actually the fodder for self development or Jungs individuation, it is
an initially attractive, but inevitably a dead end alley. This industrialised biological reductionist
view of contemporary psychiatry4 does little more than measure and adjust the extent of chemically
derived repression. The meds check mentality whilst a great triage does not position the patient to
leverage the psyches natural healing cycle towards resolution, but allows them to park the issue in
a stank billabong5. Certainly the early post trauma experiences of unbidden trauma replay look like
an emotional tsunami with which the patient has an umbrella to fend it off, and are well aided by a
white pill. However at some stage there must be a re-engagement with the personal consequences
of the original situation through the use of more historically aware archetypes. There is much more
for the patient in mythology than in medication at resolution stages of the healing cycle.
Thus the medication regime is yet another healing irritant, by its blind shielding of the fragile inner
voices, aids and abets neotenous retention. So it is possible to postulate that it is the cultural
background that inhibits the natural healing cycle by its constipated retarded metaphysics. Given
the no doubt controversial nature6 of this experiment and the need to conform to mainstream science
1 Hence the experiment is being run in the Amazon where jungle not asphalt rules peoples lives.
2 But there is something in us that wants our anxiety to be redemptive: a desire that is encouraged by the drama of the
age-old battle of good versus evil, of fear versus love. And whats more, we need our narrative to hold a meaningful
plot, one that offers an enlightened interpretation of history. David Russell

consciousness to confront its shadow. Jung C.G. Mysterium Coniunctionis, Collected Works of Jung Volume 14, p36
4 Hillman has correctly been critical of the 20th centurys psychologies (e.g., biological psychology, behaviourism,

5 An Australian term for a part of the river that only flows in flood. Thus most of the year the water stagnates and
breeds all manner of diseases. It seems that when anything in nature becomes separated from its source and does
not flow with the river towards the sea (teleology) it becomes less than it could be and in extreme cases perishes.
6 This refers to the current Schedule1 classification of many traditional healing medicines. This was interestingly
merely a ploy by Nixon to suppress the hippie generation about the Vietnam War. In an interview many years later
his Secretary of State said that they couldnt ban being a hippie or standing up for your rights but you could attack
the source of their collective intelligence. Now some 2 generations later an entire generation of PTSD suffers are
being denied access to legitimate medicines. Future generations will come to see this prohibition about as

only in methodology, there is little value in applying unproductive cultural constraints 1. The
advantage of the location is that the experimental framework is clear of any biases and prejudices
that deny any valid form of assistance in PTSD sufferer trying to reduce their mental torment,
providing it is not unethical.

1.8.

Two types of Angst Defined Pathological and Ontological

In trauma therapy these two types are often so arcanely intertwined that both must be dealt with.
Pathological is defined as dysfunctional cognitive landscapes that inhibit both coherent expressions
and fundamental life skills execution and have become psycho-physical. This includes body
storage points that often break out into biological disease and overt neurotic behaviours. The
attempts of the unconscious to restore organic cognitive operations are mysterious and it projects
symbols and images to the conscious mind in an arcane effort at re-unification. Jungs extensive
observation of Precoxia Dementia patients in the Zurich asylum developed a vast alchemical
lexicon of patterns of unconscious expressions that later became the archetypal landscape. 9
Ontological is defined as the grander questions of existence.
Jungs declaration to the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous where he saw the misguided attempts to
reach religious ecstasy through alcohol was that he needed a more sophisticated mechanism to
activate the religious function. But many of our culturally and ideologically based knowledge
systems produce caricatures of archaic God images that are only useful in fair weather sailing and
of little use in a big storm (life crisis). So the objective for the AA Founder was to find substance to
their spirit drive through seeking out the gnostic religious techniques.
The Religious drive for Jung was central to finding meaning 2. Institutional religion had been in
decline since the late Gothic period and the reason Luther rebelled against institutional religion was
he was exposed to its corruption, for in the middle ages the Vatican looked more like a mafia
bordello than pious monastery3. Like all those from the Bronze Age onwards that seek divine
blessing for their imperialist bellicosity, have known of its power to manipulate mortals. Hitler had
a famous saying
what great luck for leaders that the ordinary men refuse to think4.
The basis of an ontological insight boiling over into a trauma, is for a vet is to have a direct visceral
experience of the full horror of war against a backdrop of natural harmony and decency 5, it is seeing
this gap that triggers the onset of realisations and leads to ontological angst. Many a warrior has
reflected on a better existence while lying in a foxhole but these extreme reactions are only
temporary. As is typical of the industrialised ideologies it is quickly brushed aside by the urgencies
of combat zone survival, but the seed has been sown. This typically shows up when they are home
and the unconscious begins the task of sifting through the combat experiences. As layers of
survivalistic stress roll away these previous realisations become reified, it is a this stage that they
will have to be assimilated into the main body of the psyche or if not the inevitable doping down of

enlightened as the Spanish Inquisition and successful as the Al Capone era alcohol prohibition. As such this
experiment is being conducted in the Amazon far from such seemingly irrational, craven constraints.
Given the domesticated evidential extent and the embedded nature of south american traditional medicines, the
Peruvians don't know what all the Schedule 1 hysteria is about. I am reminded of the hippie satire Psychedelic
drugs have been known to trigger psychotic episodes in people that have never taken them.

This rule of the superstitious, witch burning, land grabbing mob was so invasive and destructive that for over a

the voices seeking re-unification. Unlike cosy suburbanites who can with ease avoid psychological
growth, once you have been touched by the Fisher King such an option is not available.
The Fisher King myth in the Arthurian Legend is described by Johnson 10 as suffering separation
anxiety from enlightened states of mind, which he was exposed to, in an abrupt, maddeningly and in
many cases unbidden way1. It is said he only is at peace when in deep inner reflection and actively
reducing the gap towards psyche reunification. Ontological angst then is the gap between the
profundity of trans-personal experiences and the superficiality and hominid brutality of ones
mundane awareness where the TPS rules with the blind force of certitude.
The onset of pathological trauma can be triggered by an ontological realisation and an inability to
change ones environment, such as a combat zone. Whilst a suburban life offers plenty of mind
numbing pubescent distractions to avoid, the intensity of a combat zone drives much deeper into the
psyche. This penetration into the unconscious is the psychological basis of enduring trauma, in
vernacular, the deeper it goes the more you have to dig it out. Here specifically is where such
brutal experiences as a Shamanic encounter are a powerful shovel and can deliver the cathartic
penetration that western metaphysics is too impotent to provide.
For example if the content a combat situation triggers a realisation of the futility of war then the
reaction is based on some basis of moral repugnance. This is evidenced that the end of world war
two saw the greatest influx into seminaries in the 20th Century. Driven mainly by the personal
emotional consequences of extensive combat experiences and the rejection of the violence based
credos. The Vietnam Vets had a harder road with the angst of rejection and alienation of their own
country further creating inner turmoil of guilt and the futility of war 11. This brutality and rejection
places huge stresses on the biological emotional coping mechanism, in many cases beyond its
genetic capacity. Without epigenetic technologies to reintegrate the initial primary coarse grained
response or triage modality extends far too deep into the healing cycle and cannot deal with the
pathological, let alone with the ontological issues being masked asymmetrically in the background.
Whilst the ontological angst is at the core, the pathological manifestations are so troublesome to the
patient, that the vista into their malady it is more like a sea of unending chronic torment and
confusion than gristle for the healing cauldron. The difficulty with analysing pathological material,
is the TPS is a formidable guard and Hades does not let go his captives easily, even Persephone has
to return for 3 months of every year2. This is analogous to the down time that many PTSD
sufferers go through with extended periods of isolation, it is a space that helps self analysis. But
they lack the psychological technologies to make sense of the irrational unconscious world and it
can leave them trapped in Hades far after a healthy deep introspection period should end.
The schematic below shows the relativity of differing life paths. Those with pathological symptoms
are jostling between the distorted biological versus societal compliance drives, with flashes of
optimal archetypal development. Whilst those with ontological angst have a more Fisher King
ascendant path with the usual clumsy alignment of younger years due to hubris. It also portrays the
differing paths and the consequences of being agnostic to your inexorable personal evolvement
agendas. The larger the gap between an ideal personal contemporary archetypal eco-system and the
head space you own, the more the agitation.
To live an ordinary life is easy, simply a functional individual versus collective framework will get
you by. But once a trauma has penetrated deeper than mundane it needs epigenetic technologies to
remediate as Gaia3 cannot do what the unconscious can. I refer again to the scalar Ouroboros where
the psyche sits exactly in the middle scalar hierarchy with a high probability of fractal correlations.

Based on a de-industrialised Cycle of Compassion and the Historical Mechanics of the Psyche

A jungle environment aids in the activation of natural healing states and the longer the stay
the better.
The naturally harmonious constellation does not trigger the embedded TPS.
Reduction in hard wired behavioural responses based on familiar environments, including
the western therapy session dance.
Parallels to traditional recuperation in the Alps models.

2.2.

Environment is as non-urban and primal as possible

Preparation for a titanic emotional release1

Given the culturally alien nature of non-western medicine to the average westerners,
encounters, particularly initial ones can be a tumultuous and confusing affair and are in need
of extensive translation. They need to be ready for some rather brutal physiological stress.
In many ways it is the abruptness of the encounter temporarily dislodges the intractable grip
of the TPS, however this irrational Gnostic engagement with malignant feeling states is,
experientially non-trivial and difficult to assimilate.
For the purposes of the therapeutic cycle mental preparation is mainly of assistance in the
retention of fidelity of feeling states and their concomitant symbology. The encounter itself
is secondary2 to the quality of material gleaned from the unconscious archetypal activation
and how effectively it can used in Jungian Therapy.

From the psychotherapeutic standpoint, ayahuasca is similar to exposure therapy. Intention-setting

is a common ritual in many ayahuasca practices. Users with traumatic histories have the
opportunity to set their intentions to their traumas12.

2.3.

Undergo Primal Ritual Encounter3

This activity is out of scope for this research. The medical model is pharmacologically biased and
biological reductionist constrained which while providing for excellent micro level experimental
reproducability, lacks in holistic logic. Most traditional healing is based on removing irrational
unhygienic compartmentalisation in the psyche, in its materialist reductionist boundaries the brutal
chemical repression of symptoms by western modernity creates boundaries and inhibits the release
of information about the toxic archetypal billabong. A Shamanic encounter affords no such luxury,
where all cyanogenic archetypes are purged regardless of their perceived value to the TPS. This
cathartic penetration and concomitant blast of fresh psychological air offers the PTSD therapist a
more fertile operating field and is one of the main aspects of the archaic encounter that is being
leveraged.4

2.4.

Post Encounter Jungian Based Analysis

De-briefing within 24 hours to harvest feeling state and concomitant archetypal symbology material
for translation and assimilation. What is important in the post encounter therapy session is the
fidelity of memory and the density of information the patient brings to the therapy session. These
encounters are more likely to release highly atrophied regressive shadow archetypes that are as vital
to the healing process, as they are repressed and grotesque. In polite social interactions Jung's
shadow is kept well out of sight, mainly to conform with the psycho-social pressures of the
collective and its operational semantic interface, the persona. But it is the exposed shadow in all its
less than flattering tumultuous chaos that is the gristle for the therapy cauldron.
The role of ASIT is to enhance assimilation by translating symbology into familiar cultural motifs,
such that the arcane information inherent in the purging ritual is rendered deeply personally
comprehensible. Here the universal semantics of world mythology provides a rich quarry for
analytical juxtapositioning. Similar to Jungs use of dream material for analysis, these more
dislodged and post encounter apparent symbology constellations, provide high fidelity raw material.
Many narratives released express emotions of dislocation and yearning, but very little psychology
technologies are passed on1. Where the western intellectual is well ahead of a uneducated native is
the ability to invent by necessity intellectual constructs to deal with chaos, this has been the
hallmark of the virus like success of the hominids rise to world domination. Creating intellectual
scaffolding for a translation engine or a front brain analytical function to assimilate primal feeling
states, is one of the main epigenetic technologies2 of ASIT under development.
2.4.1.

Sifting through the Tsunami Debris

The primary outcome being leveraged is the raw release of images and associated symbology from
the encounter. Given the misappropriation of the public symbology by craven hegemonies and
corporate media, the ability of a typical westerner to interpret their unconscious archetypes has been
confused to oblivion. As such, much of the cathartically released material will be alien and foreign,
and westerners have no language or imaginal technology3 to approach it.
Much of Jungs methodology is based in the interpretation of unconscious material with dream
analysis as the quarry. Dream analysis is actually quite difficult and the advantage of adjuncting
Shamanic released material with Jung is that the vividness, fidelity and retention of the symbology
released is much higher and this raw material affords a chance to exercise analytical muscle in
therapy. There is also a natural sedative effect, more cognitive malleability and a more of a
willingness to engage with repressed subterranean material.

to place material into a coherent framework. This collection of material is then inductively
categorised, mainly through emotional prominence, so to structure the therapy time as to be
productive. Designing for an exploration that builds insight through gradational micro revelations
will build trust and analytical momentum. As with the Jungian method, engagement with the
shadow to tackle the alchemical quaternaries is a sure means of therapeutic progress, but needs high
levels of trust.
2.4.2.

Translate feeling states into a Symbology Constellation

This aspect of ASIT is informed by Jungian archetypal psychology of which Hillman 1 was the
foremost contemporary exponent and by Campbell's World Mythology research. Myths have long
been used as psychological ancestral material but in the hubris ridden vanity of modernity they are
consigned to the dim past of ancient history, despite the unconscious contents mainly being an
historical repository. However the mystery of the human condition remains the same despite 40,000
Hominid generations and this wilful foolish agnosticism towards our origins not only dislocates us
from our past, but more importantly confuses our future.
There are many styles of therapist to patient interaction postures, with this experiment one option is
using artistic expressions to portray that which is beyond linguistic reach, whilst of course dialogue
is the main therapeutic instrument.
An example work undertaken by the Jungian Analyst Dora Kalff 2 using non-traditional methods
have proved effective in providing a mechanism for patients to bring forward perplexing emerging
unconscious issues in a coherently structured manner. She uses a sand play area with thousands of
figurines to allow the patient to construct archetypal constellations that bring vague symbology
forward into representational manifested objectivity. This situational representation eliciting an
unconscious revelation method is an example of dormant archetypes being awakened, similar to
genetic material being activated by environmental stimuli and similar process to, but not as intense
as the Shamanic rituals.
Whilst nothing so elaborate is possible in the jungle, a simple whiteboard with coloured pens will
offer an opportunity to draw basic images to facilitate structured projection. These constellations
can then be seen by both the patient with an opportunity for the therapist to offer analytical
commentary based on mythology motif correlations. As Jung used to encourage his patients to
paint their dreams13, the cathartically released material from the Shamanic encounter can also be
shaped by non-linguistic expressions.

1 James Hillman studied under Jung directly, was very active in the field of revitalising public myth and rallied
against the material reductionist blindness of modern behavioural psychologies.
2 Dora Kalff, Jungian therapist, developed sandplay therapy in Switzerland in the 1950s and '60s based on her studies
at the C.G. Jung Institute, Zurich, in Tibetan Buddhism, and with Margaret Lowenfeld, in England.
The client is given the possibility, by means of figures and the arrangement of the sand in the area bounded by the
sandbox, to set up a world corresponding to his or her inner state. In this manner, through free, creative play,
unconscious processes are made visible in a three-dimensional form and a pictorial world comparable to the dream
experience. Through a series of images that take shape in this way, the process of individuation described by C. G.
Jung is stimulated and brought to fruition.

2.4.3.

Identify the Mythological Narratives for the Released Symbology

Dows (1986) model of symbolic healing in which the sufferers affliction is interpreted in terms of
an over-arching myth; the healer attaches emotions to the transactional symbols drawn from the
myth, and the transactional symptoms are then manipulated to change the sufferers emotional
state14.
This level of mythological expertise is part of the qualifications of undertaking a role as a Jungian
Therapist. Authors previously cited such as Jung, Campbell, Sandner, Hillman, etc. form a mapus
mundus of the psyche and offer a high fidelity cross domain experimental hunches validation
landscape. Of course the vast quarry is, world mythology, of which a great deal of its symbology
has been mapped by ARAS1, including their World Symbology Encyclopaedia 15 and is used as an
analytical reference.
There is no easy answer to dream and symbol analysis, even Jung had no direct codification
procedure but with a careful iteration of discovery, description and historical analysis 2 the
information locked within it will be released in the form of a personal insight. It is very much a
gradual, self revealing process in which the personal growth of the patient facilitates the opportunity
to soak in more.
2.4.4.

Focusing on Pre-trauma Personal Aspirations

Much of the therapeutic landscape focuses on trauma as figural to the methodology. Whilst it is
impossible to resolve any wound without unpacking all the malignant repressed material, if that is
all that is achieved then it falls into the Symptomology Merry-Go-Round trap. This has , rather
bizarrely lead to the contemporary biological reductionist view of trauma not being resolvable, but
has mutated into a convenient technology for the ruling classes to develop ever sophisticated means
of manipulating repressed material3. Of course these more bleak Orwellian landscapes vary
between cultures but all have at their basis the repression of libidinal fantasy for the sake of sociocultural cohesion. Now some form of order for the collective stone age mind, that characterises the
uneducated unconscious is absolutely mandatory4, but this has become unbalanced in modernity.
The extent of the militant hegemonic invasiveness has now become the central problem of the
movement forward of the hominid species and directly antagonistic to PTSD solutions.
As such creating new vistas for the soul to resolve trauma into, have effectively been obliterated
from western cultural, because in modernity, all the focus is given to nursing the trauma not healing
it. Therefore one of the key philosophical foundations of ASIT is focusing on the patients latent and
now heavily atrophied personal potential. Similar to the referenced Spielren episode with Jung, the
effort by her to become something grander that a childhood violence victim pushed aside many of
the personal introspective and analytical inhibitory constraints. It provides the drive forward and
the impetus to act, to go beyond the cosy horizons of the familiar meds-check world the patient has
come to falsely believe is the best they can hope for.
1 http://ARAS.org
2 There was a particular example where a patient came to him saying she had a snake in her belly. Several years later
the Kundalini motif was exposed to the west. This was unknown to both Jung and his patient and convinced Jung
his search for the Collective Unconscious could provide a universal language for out of band information. Jung
interviewed by Freeman 1958.
3 With the rise of democracy in the age of enlightenment overtly violent means of large scale social control were
defunct and the battleground shifted to propaganda. This is the reason we see such pubescent junk being peddled in
the media and the double speak manipulations of public symbology, as well as the trivialising of mythology.
4 Look how successful the anarchy of the French Revolution turned out for peoples lives, then along came Napoleon.

Thus exploring with the patients pre-trauma aspirations that have been atrophied in the billabong
will provide the impetus for personal action. As the reason a patient is forced to stay heavily
sedated is they have not psychologically become that which is transcendent of the injury similar to
transformation moment in Stage 4 of Sandners Shamanic Encounter Framework 1 Once the power
of the transcendent archetype has become activated and nurtured it can occupy the pantheon of
endorsed operational front brain neural firing patterns. This release of latent material can be so all
consuming that it can completely transform ones life. Jung went through the very same awakening
and invented a science around the irrational material he discovered 2. Releasing pent up latent
potential can help PTSD patients to almost explode out of their billabong.
2.4.5.

Trauma has an Neoteny Dislodging Metaphysical Function.

Trauma further defined as an extreme situation that invokes the complete potential of a human to
respond, has an historical correlation in Shamanism. Particularly seen in the male passage of rites
rituals of the American Indian cultures. Voluntary undertaken and deliberately contrived trauma
triggering ordeals such as being hung from various points of the body and extreme hunting tasks all
bought forth latent personal powers that are instinctual, survivalistic based. However tribal
societies are more competent at assimilating supramundane/transcendental/extreme cognitive
experiences into the village collective consciousness. This is mainly due to their tolerance of
individuality within a small collective, whereas modern urban environments are toxic to nonhomogeneous compliant personality types.
So historically the trickling in of transcendental information has been through these Shamanic
interfaces as it brings metaphysical awareness into mundane operation. We see the dissipation of
juvenile attributes after an extreme situations, very few men come home from war children, they
may be riddled with tumultuous emotions, but they have matured. The extent of correlation
between the life lesson informational release and the permanent dislodging of the TPS certitude is
being observed and analysed. The experiment seeks to determine the extent of the effect to trauma
resolution when the metaphysical lesson has been encompassed.
Alas after alchemy, a mind and material science became chemistry, a material science only, the
metaphysical attributes in the healing process were consigned to the scrap bin. Thus the western
medical model attempts to heal without, and in many cases by actually destroying the philosophical
powers that form an holistic healing framework and ends up in an extraordinarily complicated
asymmetrical pharmacological mess3.

1 See Section 1.4.2

2 C. G. Jung stated in 1957 that the visionary experiences recorded in The Red Book: Liber Novus were the
foundation of his life work: My entire life consisted in elaborating what had burst forth from the unconscious and
flooded me like an enigmatic stream . . . the numinous beginning, which contained everything, was then. Liber
Novus is now historically placed in a hermeneutic relationship with Jungs subsequent writings. Jung and Aion:
Time, Vision, and a Wayfaring Man, Lance S. Owens, Psychological Perspectives, 54:253-289, 2011. C.G. Jung
Institute of Los Angeles.
3 This can be evidenced in the extraordinary complications of the pharmacological side effects registers. The
Australian version (MIMS) has an encyclopaedia of asymmetrical causes that are indicators of an underlying
attribute correlation of such sophistication that science has yet to develop a mature enough model to encompass it.
With naturalistic pharmacology no such untidiness is evident which means, in system design terms it is inherently
more elegant and stable constellation.

2.4.6.

Re-calibrating Lingering Primary Response Archetypes

Any attempt to tear down what are habitual patterns that are now part of the problem and not the
solution is as impossible and foolish, as it is necessary. They must be sublimated with newly
activated grander archetypes that solve both the problems of resolution and protection of the soul.
Rapid non-strategic change is in fact dangerous, merely a predictable instinctual extreme reaction of
the mind1 and must be avoided2. A major aspect of bringing about the opportunity for change is
metacognition and a move to an observational posture that affords some level of objectivity. In
many cases the sheer weight of familiarity legitimises itself over more creative and sophisticated
coping methods. The tool of personal detachment through metacognition alters the familiarity
addiction through objective posture measurement.
As previously stated it is the right psychological technology at the right stage in the healing cycle.
In the same way a cast is of little use when retraining a broken limb in rehabilitation, serotonin
inhibitors and lithium are of little use when trying to bring the trauma to a workable resolution.
Myth offers more than medication at resolution stages.
By an honest view of a current malignant coping posture and some fresh alternatives the patient is
more likely to choose more hygienic resolution archetypes to assist going forward in the healing
cycle. In many ways the therapist must construct these, particularly in the early stages, whilst
dealing with transference and personal biases. The patient must be educated in the process and
mechanics of ASIT and as such some level of mechanical instruction during therapy will achieve
the dual purpose of content analysis and process education. ASIT has been designed as an
empowering model as it deliberately leveraging the patients latent talents to create individual
independence of thinking, along Jungs individuation process. This archetypal dialogue played out
in the cognitive language space3, through metacognition observation and realising that whilst
comforting loops of symptomology provide familiar certitude it will not lead them from the maze.
2.4.7.

Constructing a Front Brain Landing Zone

This stage creates consciousness scaffolding as a landing zone for feeling archetypes. The value of
western intellectual training is the sophisticated intellectual paradigms, that can make sense of the
more chaotic landscapes. Both historical epigenetic evolution and Jung's path of individuation
demonstrate the exigent need to grow the operational ambit of the patients psyche to encompass the
polarised horrors associated with the brutality of the hominid condition.
There is an analogy from Astro-physics called Dark Matter. Calculations 4 from string theory
indicate this invisible force creating a scaffolding or superstructure to support gravity and astral
bodies. Similarly consciousness needs adherable structures that can withstand the fidelity and force
of a newly activated resolution archetype from the unconscious storehouse. For by definition a
healing or resolution archetype is larger in scope and more cognitively intense than the primary
trauma response and the patient must expand out of their isolation in order to contact the visceral
information and manifested energy released in the expansion. A semantic union if you like.
1 It matters little which extreme of the pendulum swing is at. It is that it isn't centred.
2 This author witnessed a previous colleague that had the usual poor diet, chain smoker and boozer lifestyle. They
were warned by their doctor of the imminent health risks and she, nobly gave it all up on one day. She had a heart
attack within 2 weeks. natura mutat tardius nature changes slowly. After all it took about 4 billion years to go from
bacteria to philosophers.
3 It could also be referred to as archetypal theatre
4 The maths indicated there wasn't enough gravity to stop the edges of galaxies from being flung into the never, so
they plugged up their theory by postulating this scaffolding.

Mythology offers a suitable menagerie of narrative defined eco-system characterisations to structure

the active imagination and aid assimilation of potent healing archetypes. Whilst the Jungian
tradition is based on Greek and Alchemical research, the most contemporary intact archaic
mythology is the Amazonian shamans. Thus the most historically intact pure form of archaic mind
sciences on the planet exists in the Amazon and is well placed for use as a convergence technology.
2.4.8.

Example Consciousness Structuring Frameworks

A framework offering by Remo F. Roth.

The musings about quantum physics and Wolfgang Paulis epistemological insights that occupied
me for the last 30 years served the development of my method of Symptom-Symbol Transformation
(SST) and Body-Centred Imagination (BCI). The former I apply in the case of psychosomatic,
somatic and psychic disease, especially depression, panic attacks and further symptoms of Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), the latter in the case of incomprehensible visions that my
patients are attacked by. Though mostly such visions are diagnosed as psychotic (schizophrenia) by
psychiatrists and depth psychologists, it is important to stress here that they are not a symptom of
such disease16.
Another framework is Hinton and Kirmayer (2013)17

The model of correlated attributes and mood determinacy in structuring healing processes.1 The
objective is to build expanding concentric circles of awareness that break away from the fragmented
and isolated world view into a broader vision of the human condition. The model above offers an
structured observational landscape that the patient can develop a deeper insight into the mechanics
of PTSD. This is useful for example in the cyclical isolation tending drives, when they have been
with Hades long enough they recognise it and return to the fields of flowers. This type dynamism
in personal cognitive tactics will reduce the frequency and intensity of depression episodes.
2.4.9.
Build Psychological Resilience with the Archetypal Eco-System
Designer Function
Once the patient has been educated on activating and assimilating unconscious archetypes the next
task becomes maintenance. The Shamanic encounter works because of its unmoderated intensity
and reach into the core of the trauma which is abruptly dismissive of petty first world problems.
Therapy works because it is a constructive lead process from a experienced psychologist that aids in
the assimilation of unconscious symbology. Ongoing nurturing of the new found hygienic coping
method rests mainly with the patient and as such they need to learn basic epigenetic technologies of
independence.
In the Hinton Krimayer model above we see the determinacy of mood state with correlated causal
domains that settles all the data into a mental landscape orientation. By becoming aware of the
oscillating mood swings it becomes possible for the patient to both reverse engineer mind states and
get a feel for how to adjust their daily life to accommodate the nurturing of newly activated
archetypes.
There are potentials for PTSD patients to reinvigorate their community interaction level which in
turn gives rise to opportunities to exercise recently activated archetypes. Support groups are
intimate sizes and ideologically and experiential similar offer a training ground similar to a local
football club gives you a chance to start in lower grades and work up. Given the reduced
willingness of patients to trust external parties, and the inherent clumsiness of new cognitive skills,
with all the usual hype-reactivity to criticism and perceptive atrophy, environments that have only
small informational landscapes will offer low risk involvements. The therapist can measure the
patients current levels of perceptive atrophy and match it to constellations with similar cognitive
intensity levels. This assists in developing goal setting plans and personal life coping strategies. It
is important to be cognisant that in the resolution phase, just like rehabilitation, it is more about
practising for normality that more unproductive, perfecting the victim nursing role.
Patients that live in highly urbanised environments will have reduced opportunities to exercise
newly activated archetypes, as there seems to be some form of sanctification that is not partial to
urban artifice that accompanies it. These types of thoughts seem to prosper in more natural
environments, which is why nearly all Health Spa type organisations are situated in the countryside.
It seems natural environments support the awareness assimilation aspect of healing rituals whilst the

1 Even when symptoms cannot be alleviated, suffering may be given a positive or valorized meaning making it
intelligible to the individual and others. For example, in a Christian religious frame, trauma and its sequelae may be
interpreted as a cross to bear analogous to Jesus with his cross, so that suffering is seen as morally or spiritually
elevating. In other traditions, interventions may involve specific techniques like meditation, which may have effects
in many domains, increasing the ability to change mental sets or attention, reducing rumination on worry and
thoughts of past trauma, regulating vagal tone, and shifting the persons self image and relations to others from that
of an aggrieved and angry survivor toward that of a socially-engaged, virtuous merit maker (Hinton, Pich, Hofmann,
& Otto, 2013; Hinton, Rivera, Hofmann, Barlow, & Otto, 2012). In most ritual healing, these changes in the
meanings of suffering occur not only for the individual but for others around them so that the impact of the healing
practice must be sought in the larger community or social ecosystem.

artifice of urbanity destroys them1.

Fantasy play is the usual manifestation of this design function. It can be seen how children create
worlds to inhabit and then live out narratives within them 2. Like most psychological technologies
they are a more sophisticated form of the original clumsy, coarse grained instinctive responses.
This is why Jung made so much out of engaging with the shadow, it contains the antidote to the
polarised fragmentation3.
2.4.10.

Epigenetic Technology Toolbox

An array of practical cognitive tools will be developed to address dysfunctional aspects of

behaviour and thinking and offer in-situ corrective powers. An example of this is to learn to
observe and measure both external and internal worlds simultaneously. Similar to a combat zone
vigilance4 to determine the exact configuration of the enemy, this cognitive function can be
retrained to assist when panic attacks arise. The wait until you see the whites of their eyes is a
combat zone instruction to stay calm when under the most pressure. By measuring and comparing
the situation to the thinking/feeling modality a less maladaptive posture can be taken. Thus by
reshaping psychological technologies they already have developed, ASIT can assist in a more
measured high fidelity assessment of ones immediate environment and descale panic attacks by
reducing the automatic triggering and episodal timeframes of hyper-vigilance activation. Others as
they are discovered will be compiled into a patients cook book.
2.4.11.

Let in the Fresh Air

There are many natural healing situations in the Amazon. Therapy is hard work and emotionally
draining so activities like walking and spending time alone in the jungle help in reducing the burden
of intense therapy. Constant inner peace is allusive to even experienced meditators so trauma
patients with all that mind noise of the TPS which makes clear space highly problematic will
struggle. Whilst analytical intensity and rigour work well for the therapist and it affords a sense of
productivity, assessing when and how much pressure to apply is a body language detection art. For
people really mean what they look like and do, not what they say. Only so much can be
accomplished and it is critical than assimilation for the release emotions from the Shamanic
encounter are the first priority, not more personal analytical burden from therapy. However given
the logistical constraints and visitation cycles infrequency, a form of material released but parked
pending further personal introspection function is being developed. That is, dislodging more than
they can process but allowing it to be placed in a sort of introspection to-do list that they can
dislodge again on their own5.

1 This is another reason to conduct this experiment in the Amazon, where the jungle itself becomes part of the healing
process.
2 This is the function Dora Kalff is leveraging in her play sandpit.
3 In fact it only became a shadow recently. There was a transition after the Romantic Period that saw the forest
(unconscious) go from a place of vitality and rejuvenation to a dark place full of threats. Before this there was an
amoral non-compartmentalised view that it was all just grand open vistas, whilst today it is gristle for the cauldron.
4 The Vietnam 1.000 yard stare is a perimeter enemy contact vigilance tactic. This becomes skewed into hypervigilance by nature of false triggers from atrophied perceptive engines, but is in fact a learned skill, which means it
is possible to recalibrate and even re-purpose the function.
5 An analogy here is a rusty bolt. The therapist uses engineering techniques to remove the rust , clean up the thread
and undoes it. Then the bolt is done up again so it is usable, however it is now easily removable at anytime.

3. Metrics Framework
Both quantifiable and anecdotal measures will be used

4.1.

Cosmology

This is the Queen of the Sciences, traditionally the most highly structured of the western noumenal
frameworks where it approaches the big ontological questions like Why are we here?. It brings
data to areas that magic and mysticism have, for such a prolonged period, been the bastion of
hominid centric projected anthropomorphic certitude. The astronomical data horizons have
exploded in the last decade with the advent of satellite based radio telescopes and this science is
now bringing hard data to questions like the origin of the universe and life. Though not without the
historically typical political fuss regarding competing hypothesis. Even the Royal Astronomer,
Lord Rees openly states it is now not premature to speculate on life elsewhere in the universe given
the extent of recent finds in planets within the habitable zone throughout the universe19.

Illustration 1 - Lord Rees Scalar Ouroboros

The Ouroboros above shows a high level of correlation with the notion that the human scale is a
lexicon between the macro and micro worlds. This places the archetypes of the unconscious as a
high probability of being the richest source to any known creature of the complete extent of the
cosmic condition. Jung's active imagination is able to be used to engage with theoretical notions
from a broad inter-disciplinary range of analytical fields acting similar to the alchemists crucible.
4.1.1.

Relevance to ASIT

This natural urge to look beyond our personal horizons and personal potential is highly atrophied in
PTSD which tends towards self perpetuating isolation. The Jungian semi-autonomous complexes
are actually symbolically concretised primal instinct responses using mental noise in an attempt to
sustain a flawed homoeostasis instead of embracing the inexorable road to more profound vistas.
Isolation is the key retarding mechanism of a dysfunctional shadow and this only errantly extends
the use of coarse grained trauma coping approaches. By letting in some fresh air from grander

vistas are we able to introduce hope of choice and more creative mental landscape to sufferers.
Similar to Jung's cure of Speilren in leveraging her latent psychoanalyst skills, so to PTSD patients
can cling to a personal skill base that acts like a conscious scaffolding and can encompass more
expanded and sophisticated coping mechanisms through a return to a broader view of the life.

4.2.

Quantum Mechanics

This is an extraordinary counter intuitive world with probability waves and multi dimensional fields
bears little resemblance to either Newtonian or Einsteinian physics ordered universe. The largest
microscope can see 10 -12 in which all the atoms line up nicely in rows. Whereas the Plank length,
the current theoretical indivisible smallest particle is 10 -34 looks more like liquid in a bowl on top of
a washing machine. It is much more unstable world and as such presents a barrier to the holy grail
of physics, the unified field theory.
One of the more interesting models is Susskinds20 Holographic Universe. One of the old school
founders of string theory, he now advocates the technical capacity for our material world to be a
large scale computer simulation. At the Plank length there is enough information on the perimeter
of any three dimensional scenario to orchestrate all the atoms of our perceptive world. Thus there
are therefore no mathematical barriers to our entire world being somebody elses playstation
software.
Other seemingly counter intuitive things like quantum coalescence 1 which indicate an as of yet
undiscovered force, that synchronises spin states of electrons galaxies apart. Or teletransportation,
now routine in the lab, does not move anything physical but moves information about the atomic
structures from one to another in zero time. Hominids are obsessed with controlling information
and the power it yields.
In some ways the unconscious is more like this quantum world than any Einsteinian ordered cosmic
view of anything. The drive of entropy towards chaos is very much like the untamed landscape of
the unconscious and its natural landscape, the wild jungles.
The attempt by Wolfgang Pauli2 to integrate quantum mechanics and Jungs work has been analysed
by Remo Roth of Zurich.
In fact a less far-reaching assumption [than the integration of depth psychology
into physics; RFR] is sufficient for the explanation of the physical symbolism in my
dreams, namely: The tendency of my dreams consists in the assimilation of all of
what is called the psychoid archetype. In other words: Parapsychology and
biology should be integrated into physics. [Translation mine]
The term psychoid archetype I call the psychophysical archetype and define it as an extension of
Jungs term in the way that it is not only defined in the collective unconscious but in the all
embracing world of the unus mundus/psychophysical reality; it includes spirit as well as matter
and in fact transcends them21.

1 Einstein famously called this, Spooky action at a distance

2 They were contemporaries. Pauli was sent to Jung for psychoanalysis, Jung declined, but did communicate with
him for many years afterwards. Wolfgang Pauli had several quantum mechanics axioms attributed to him, but sadly
like many geniuses was highly neurotic. He was also very famous for being a laboratory jinx. It was so common
place that when lab equipment broke they would enquired if Pauli was in town, with an alarmingly high correlation
rate. There is even one instance where a lab accident occurred and he was not in town but at that exact time was
passing through on a train, Kripal, Lecture on Jung and the Occult, Houston Jung Centre, 2013.

4.3.

Evolution

Darwin and Wallaces1 biological evolutionary theory is a one of many dynamic systems that are
collectively, the universe we live in. It offers high fidelity insight into how 40,000 generations have
progressed to modernity. All systems from the entire universe to the sub quantum world are in flux
but not following an orderly linear progression. Even though we are based on the Cambrian
explosion fish body plan major organs like eyes have been reinvented several times. The extreme
of biological reductionism by Dawkins2 et al seeks to deny that which their limited data horizons
and crusty their old politicised intellectual models won't let them see.
There are a number of fringe dwellers that also present cogent arguments for alternative hominid
timelines, which basically claim pre-ice age civilisations of extraordinary maturity. Evidence for
this is found offshore given the change in sea levels post the ice melt circa 12,000 BCE. As such a
third dark ages is possible, but regardless of these setbacks, the unrelenting drive of nature
continues to resurface an omega point based teleology moving towards more sophisticated forms,
and always resumes its inexorable march forward. The recurrence of evolutionary patterns are
agnostic of era or culture and can be seen in the types of creatures and collectives that are created in
differing epochs.

4.4.

Art

Since the discovery of the Upper Paleolithic Sistine Chapel in Lacaux 3 caves last century it was
revealed that using symbolic expression to communicate to others is a primary differentiator from
primates from circa 34,000 BCE onwards4. No other creature goes to such an obsessive extent to
create visible artefacts that communicate non-superficial feeling states. Since this time artistic
expression has been key to the rise and fall of civilisations.
Conquer the symbols of the inner world and you have already conquered the physical world5
Art has a responsibility to aim the aspirations of the symbolically uneducated towards grander
models of reality. It has varied throughout history on its effectiveness, has been misused for
propaganda, and in modernity, has been contorted into the most philosophically profound of all art
forms, interior decoration. Both the classical period and the Renaissance used art in profound ways
and a much more vibrant societies ensued.
It has been in use for decades in the therapeutic environment. Art offers a more freeform means of
expressing fragile feeling states than language and this is why Jung actively encouraged his patients
to draw the symbology associated with disturbed states of mind. Jung himself was an accomplished
artist seen in his illustrations particularly in Libra Novus.
Art can be used to portray the entire emotional ambit from aspirational states to suffering and
afflictions. It has a raw primal power that conveys high density information with a sophisticated
unconscious correlations too elegant for language.

1 I am glad Bill Bailey got Wallaces bust in the Royal Academy, he deserved to share the co-discovery fame.
2 Dawkins infamously said that God does not exist. The question being how does he know that? One is reminded
of the joke often found in philosophy campus toilet doors.
God is dead signed Nietzsche and later below it Nietzsche is dead signed God.
3 Incredibly not only magnificent paintings but music was being produced by using the stalactites as a xylophone.
4 Though at that era there was only a brief appearance and did not re-emerge again until the upper palaeolithic epoch.
5 Gilgamesh, Ruler of Mesopotamia circa 3,000BCE.

4.5.

History of

One of the main areas for immediate progress in therapy is the placement of a patients predicament
in the historical situational context. Particularly with regard to afflictions of the human condition,
that have remained constant since we either fell from heaven, or the savannah treetops 1. Today we
wrestle with the same seemingly irrational diseases, mortality, injustice and exploitation that have
haunted the species since the upper palaeolithic era.
It is the contraction of ones personal history window, another consequence of neotenous retention,
that makes anyone feel isolated from the rest of the species. As I have said before, if you do not
know your past you can't steer a prudent course for your future. Demonstrating the historical
parallels to a patient begins the re-engagement with the collective unconscious, which already has
the healing archetypes pre-installed, out of the box (so to speak). It is our general symbol illiteracy
that disables our ability to read the messages of the unconscious archetypes. We denude them into
omens or dictates of God or voices on the wall, and distort them into dysfunctional fragments,
depending mostly on your cultural and/or ideological indoctrination.
A war veteran for example studying military history will notice his plight is not a species precedent
and that many have been through the consequences of war and extreme violence. Having a
connection to shared experience with their ancestors helps to reduce the personal trauma by
accepting pre-existing healing patterns from the 40,000 generations of genetic material.
4.5.1.

Anthropology

Jung went to Africa to study the tribal mind in his later years. He wanted a datum point for the
deviation of artifice pursuant of the western ego, particularly the pre-world war 2 Germanic,
psychotic Hitler driven collective ego. He found much can be gained from studying the prechristian ego derived consciousness, however his field was alchemy not shamanism 2. Initial
research indicates it offers a wealth of insights into how the species coped with afflictions in more
naturalistic methods.
Alas whilst organised religions offered respite from the dark ages it has done so at the expense of
many of the positive natural aspects of the psyche. The cowardly hunting down of pagans and
gnostic christians, the crusades and recent paedophilia scandals have completely destroyed any
credibility religion had to intelligent people making an archaic renaissance of some description a
timely necessity3.
Much of the previous archaic cultures have been rendered impotent by the wave of imperialist
colonialism of the 16th Century. Whilst some scholars did at least reveal texts like the Vedas, they
did so in a climate of their destruction of applicability. However given the size of the Amazon, even
the conquistadors were unable to completely destroy shamanism. There is a probability a archaic
renaissance is underway and as it re-emerges it appears to be well placed to offer a broadening of
the impoverished western metaphysics.
Adapted applications for westerners rigidly rational minds are necessary as the indigenous cultures
are more competent in and have exposure to the more irrational naturalistic approaches. A study of
the native practices towards the organic healing of the psyche will offer the mechanistic basis for an
adaptive model that can be more readily assimilated by western egos.

3 This was what Nietzsche was predicting in his lunatic monk wandering amongst the villagers exclaiming God is
dead and we have killed him allegory. He was relaying the impending destruction of en-mass religious faith.

4.5.2.

Civilisation

Since the dawn of Mesopotamia and Egypt in circa 3,000 BCE civilisations have waxed and waned,
only some of the oriental empires have kept a more intact lineage 22. It is characterised by
architecture, art, organisational maturity, large scale public infrastructure and governance, learning,
libraries and so forth. It provides an means of eradication of the chaos from the afflictions of nature
of the hunter/gatherer paradigm by regulating food and shelter. It brings a sense of order and justice
to human affairs that nature in her wildness and unpredictability do not, but at a cost. Similar to
domesticating a dog, you can make them docile and tame but you lose the primal visceral sense that
enables deeper levels of reality engagement. We see the epitome of this domesticated conformance
to socio-political propaganda and the general dumbing down of populations for the purpose of
control in contemporary realitytelevision1.
Modernity is a good example of a decaying civilisation with many parallels to the later years of the
Roman empire apparent with only moderate research. The Romans stole history by falsifying the
books for the purpose of propping up corrupt propaganda. In fact, many Greek and Celtic and
Mediterranean rim civilisations were superior in their public governance models. This narrowness
of culturally allowable metaphysics in modernity gives rise to both dissociative and neotenous
retentive tendencies. This collective shadow, peculiar to each culture, is merely a ethnicity defined
subset variation based on the superset defined by Jung. This epoch appears particularly adverse to
personal sovereignty and the over regulated invasiveness of the collective in the west is now part of
the PTSD problem, not part of the solution.

Archaeology

Fondly portrayed as digging around in other people rubbish, this is one of the few pre-history data
derivation sciences. As such its value is in forming some notion of the primate through to neolithic
age mind is useful. This relies heavily on reverse engineering from sometimes obscure evidence
and some people go too far in their speculation of the facts, and for some bizarre reason always
seem to end up blaming it on the aliens2. Whilst mainstream typically have conservative and
constrained views there is still significant value in understanding the developmental path of the
hominid. By virtue of observing the path of genetic evolution, and leveraging the scalar Ourorboros
patterns of fractal scalar correlation are possible. The deeper you understand the past the more
apparent does so the future become.
4.5.4.

Consciousness

Plotting the history of consciousness is an extraordinarily complex and mysterious piece of analysis.
The big question, did we fall from Heaven or from the Rift Valley trees is almost unanswerable.
Whilst there appears some notion of a linear progression there have been many setbacks and
regressions, the fall of classical antiquity into the dark ages is the most obvious example. However
there have always been outsiders like, shamans, gnostics, mystics, alchemists, monks, druids and
the like that have bypassed this general culturally interpreted pattern and gone directly to the source.
They have existed at every age and their lot has typically been to express the timeless archetypes
through contemporary socio-cultural symbology and they have generally been savagely persecuted
for it.

1 Surely a profound legacy to leave future generations.

2 They always seem to get such a bad rap, they really do need a good public relations team.

4.6.

Technology

The first technology from the Palaeolithic era was the stone hand axe. It had a fundamental use, to
render a difficult task easier to achieve through the extension of the bodies mechanical ability. All
tools have a similar function though of course in modernity tools are electro-mechanical so that they
can signal and operate themselves. This artificial intelligence style web of all things worldly called
the internet is the most sophisticated example of collective hive. Even with constraints like Moores
law and silica informational hosting density, the rise from nothing to Star Trek communicators was
stunningly fast. Sadly along with it came an infestation of 15,000 nukes.
The rise of science was started by the astronomers who challenged the Greek based Church earthcentric cosmology with observational data and who passed the mandate onto chemists, medicine,
physics and most recently psychology. After the last ice melt and the submersion of any
archaeological data, a fuzzy rediscovery is nesseccary even with and the probability of any
evidence of is extremely low. The insistence of evolution to keep reinventing things, indicates that
modernity doesn't discover everything for the first time. This and hominids have been anatomically
intact since Cro-Magnum Man, 40,000 years ago it is possible that archaic mind technologies where
as sophisticated then as now. In fact if we were to believe some extreme dapologies, it is possible
to levels beyond modernity. Another purpose of this experiment is to determine what epigenetic
technologies are still intact in Amazonian Shamanism and their value to western psychology.

4.7.

Metaphysics

A decidedly noumenal undertaking, it is rich in non mainstream concepts and provides a broad
landscape with which to derive hunches for hypothesis. Particularly the west has denuded its own
vision of what life is and can be to the point where Paris Hilton fashion tips are now the stuff of the
epitome of a profound thinker. This tedious superficiality was the driver for so much eastern
mysticism invading the western mind space last century.
The data validity is extremely poor with many confused alien conspirators taking up space they
don't deserve and creating confusion with low grade, superficial analysis. It is a useful place to sift
through paradigms that are unconstrained by culture of logic but are only useful for hunches.

4.8.

Alchemy

A grand source of mystery and the undercurrent of all great geniuses from the middle ages. Many
great western thinkers were closet alchemists, Da Vinci, Galleleo, Kepler, Copurnicus, Newton,
Jung. Originally from Egypt and the cult of Osiris it moved around the world with the volatile
empire boundaries of bronze age Mediterranean rim civilisations. Its next major transformation was
Elysian mystery schools1, then Hermeticism and finally alchemy2.
These arcane works are deliberately encrypted due to the political persecution they underwent.
Even in Newtons time he was so scared he hide all alchemical work and they only came to light
when Maynard Keynes bought them. They were the basis for his discovery of gravity 3 and the
seminal Principica Mathematica. Jung was an extremely well read in alchemical traditions.
1 It is a common folklore that Plato studied for 20 years to be initiated into this school. This indicates the system had
a deal of substance to it as Plato is one of the founders of western philosophy.
2 The most amusing aspect of modernities view of this arcane science is the complete absence of its main imperative,
the transformation of the mundane mind.
3 This lead him to remark that Newton was more a magician than a scientist.
