GE to provide ZLD
technology for Chinese
coal-to-chemical plant
Shaanxi Future Energy Chemical Co
Ltds Hongdun wastewater
treatment facility in Yulin City,
China will install a GE zero liquid
discharge (ZLD) system to meet
new regulations.
GEs ZLD evaporator and crystallizer
system will eliminate liquid
discharge of waste and enable
water reuse at Shaanxi Future
Energy Chemicals coal-to-chemical
plant in Hongdun.
The GE wastewater treatment
system includes a vapour
recompression brine concentrator
followed by a crystallizer, providing
a ZLD solution.
The equipment is expected to be
delivered in mid-2016, with

commissioning in March 2017.

Once operational, the Hongdun
wastewater treatment facility will
treat wastewater feed at a rate of
40 m3/hr.

OriginClear partners with cleantech

incubator and relocates HQ
OriginClear Inc has formed a
strategic partnership with Los
Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI)
and moved its headquarters to the
La Kretz Innovation Campus in
downtown Los Angeles, where it
plans to mentor startups in the
water cluster.

This project is the sixth of this kind

in China for GE in recent years and
builds on our reputation as a
premier ZLD solution provider
worldwide. It is indicative of Chinas
desire to use innovative methods,
such as zero liquid discharge
wastewater treatment technology,
to expand the coal-to-chemical
industry while minimizing
environmental impact, said Kevin
Cassidy, global leader, engineered
systems water and process
technologies for GE Power.

LACI is a non-profit organisation

led by the City of Los Angeles and
its Department of Water and Power
(LADWP) that helps accelerate the
commercialisation of clean
technologies.

We have built big, all the way to

commercial scale, at our mid-city
headquarters, said Riggs
Eckelberry, OriginClear CEO. Now
weve turned high tech and the
more than US$5 million in testing
and prototyping equipment at La
Kretz is exactly what we need to

support our scientific programs,

and to export our technology.
We are excited that LADWP is
funding a major portion of La Kretz,
with an R&D lab and demonstration
labs. It is the most innovative
municipal utility in the nation,
making this the most exciting place
to be for water in the United States,
and perhaps the world, said
Eckelberry.
As we acquire more fast-growing
companies in water services, our new
base at La Kretz will be an important
resource, said Bill Charneski,
president of the OriginClear Group.
Our subsidiaries will be able to tap
resources here far beyond what is
available to them locally.
OriginClear also has an active
alliance with California State
University at Bakersfield (CSUB),
where it is helping to develop
methods to safely reuse produced
water for irrigation, and is also
helping oil industry workers train
for careers in water reclamation.
