ME203-MOM Velocity Vector diagram (Graphical Method)

Tutorials
Determination of Velocity of a point or angular velocity of a link
# Draw Configuration diagram with all given details & data
# Write Velocity vector equation with standard notions as followed in the class
# Draw separate Configuration diagram with LOA of Velocity vectors
# Make velocity vector Tabular column- indicating vector, magnitude, LOA, sense, passing
through point.
# Draw velocity vector diagram, find the linear velocity of points of interest and angular
velocity of links
Position diagrams and Vector diagrams may be made on normal A4 size paper. Numerical
values of final answers are not expected, just write the procedure to get the numerical
values. Indicate each vector notations and LOA relations (like perpendicular or parallel etc)
It is a group assignment. Every group has to work out all the problems, each member of the
group has to work out minimum 3 questions by picking one question each from question no.
1-5 , 6-10 and 11-15.
How to submit Tutorial / Assignments for ME 203 MOM
1. Team should solve all the questions, as far as possible each team member should have equal
contribution.
2. Follow specific instructions given in each questions
3. Use only white A4 sheets
4. Tutorial cover page should have following details, Tutorial title, submission due date, name of the
team /group as indicated in Moodle (A to Z ), Team members roll number, name, problem solved
by the member. Completed group tutorial should be stapled with a cover page.
5. Each team (not individual students) should handover the tutorial to class representative (CR), CR
has to hand over the tutorial to faculty chamber on or before the due date and time. Late
submission is not permitted.
6. Plagiarism or any unethical conduct attracts a negative score 10 mark to the total score for the
course (as per approved evaluation plan for ME203 MOM).

In a four link mechanism, the crank AB rotates at 36 rad/s. The length of the links are
AB = 200 mm, BC = 400 mm, CD = 450 mm and AD = 600 mm. AD is the fixed link. At the
instant when AB is at right angle to AD, determine the velocity (i) mid point of link BC. (ii) a
point on the link CD 100 mm from the pin connecting the links CD and AD. Determine the
linear velocity of point B and angular velocity of link AB and BC

2.

In a slide crank mechanism, the length of crank OB and connecting rod AB are 125 mm and
500 mm respectively. The centre of gravity G of the connecting rod is 275 mm from the
slider A. The crank speed 600 rpm clockwise. When the crank as turned 45 o from the inner
dead centre position, determine (i) velocity of the slider A, (ii) velocity of point G and (iii)
angular velocity of the connecting rod AB.

3.

The slide crank mechanism as shown in figure 3 the length of the crank OB and connecting
rod AB are 100 mm and 400 mm respectively. If the crank rotates clockwise with and angular
velocity of 10 rad/s, find (i) Velocity of the slider A and (ii) Angular velocity of the
connecting rod AB.
