Hi girls,
This month I had the absolute pleasure of meeting our beautiful
cover girl, Sabrina Carpenter. I had never met Sabrina before,
and back at IGHQ we all had a feeling that she would be nice
in real life. Boy, were we wrong! Sabrina isn't just nice she is
funny, super-friendly and so kind and warm that she made me
feel like we had been best friends forever! She is so cool,
down-to-earth and was more than happy to fill us in on her
music. You see, Sabrina isn't just a talented actress, this superstar
can also sing - and she's really, really good at it, too! You can
check out our chat and read what she had to say on page 18.
This issue of It GiRL also happens to be our music issue. So, inside
you'll find lots of cool stories on your fave singers and bands as
well as quizzes, posters and cut-outs. This month I was also lucky
enough to see Selena Gomez live in concert when she was in
Sydney. She was pretty awesome and totally rocked out on
stage. I asked the IG team to tell me about their fave music
concert ever and this is what they said...
PHOEBE: "I loved Taylor Swift's 1989 concert. It was amazing!"

CHERYL: "Bruno Mars. I just couldn't stop dancing!"
DANIELLE: "Mine was a long time ago. I saw Joel and Benji
Madden's band Good Charlotte in concert and loved it."
BIANCA: "1D! I went to their last concert in Sydney just before

Zayn (my fave!) quit the band. So it was a special show for me."

BALLET TUMBLE
It was the day of my schools talent
show and my two friends and I decided
to do a ballet routine together. We also
go to the same dance school so we
thought it was the perfect idea. When
it was our turn to perform, the music
came on and everything was going
really well until I spotted my mum in the
audience and I lost concentration. I
stepped to the left instead of stepping
to the right and I ended up crashing
right into one of my friends and making
her tumble backwards. I was so lucky
she didnt get mad at me, but it was so
embarrassing for me... and for her!

STICKY MISHAP
I was at a sleepover with all my friends,
and we had just finished making
milkshakes and ice cream for dessert.
When my friend was telling a joke, I burst
out laughing and my milkshake came
out of my nose and sprayed all over my
friends. At first my friends were all shocked,
but we all ended up laughing about it in
the end. It was still embarrassing though!

I woke up one morning and saw that I had

slept in and was going to be late for school. I
was confused as to why my dad didnt wake
me, but I just got up and got ready as quickly
as I could. I ran downstairs and went straight
to the kitchen to have breakfast. But when I
got there my brother was there with two of
his soccer friends and they were dressed in
their soccer gear. They all just looked at me
and my brother said, Its Saturday. Why do
you have your uniform on? They all laughed
and I was totally embarrassed!

LYRIC DRAMA
One of my most embarrassing moments
was when my friends and I entered a school
X Factor competition. The day before the
competition, my friend said to our group,
My mum said to do another song. I
didnt want to but everyone else agreed,
and we only had lunch time that day to
practise. When it was our turn to perform,
we started to sing different words and lost
where we were in the song. It was the most
embarrassing thing to ever happen.

I was wearing a brand new uniform.
When I went into class, the teacher gave

After a while my teacher came up to
me and said, May I cut the tag off the

whole class was staring at me and I had
nowhere to hide. It was so embarrassing!

singer Shawn Mendes

most average guy; I had

Shawn Mendes was born in Toronto,
Ontario, Canada and grew up being
more into sport than music. I wasnt really
into music until ninth grade, he said.
As a kid I played sports. In fact, before
he discovered music, Shawn had a very
different plan for his life. I was thinking
about going to college for architecture.
Then I picked up the guitar when I was 14.
ONLINE SUCCESS
In 2013 Shawn started posting videos of
himself singing covers of popular songs on
the internet. I had no idea what I was doing
- I still have no idea! All I was trying to do was
make great music with a cool vibe... It was
just fun. His first post was on Vine and in just
a few months he had millions of views and
followers. In January 2014 a music manager
discovered Shawn online and offered him
a record contract. Five months later in June
2014 Shawns first single, Life of the Party
was released. By August 2014 he was the
third most-followed musician on Vine and
his first full-length album, Handwritten, was

Is it true that you have been singing

all your life?
Well, I was two when
I started talking and thats
also when I started singing.
We have video proof of it!
I would always sing in my
school talent show, when I
did go to elementary school,
and theres this video of me
in a Little Mermaid costume
singing. Ive just been singing
ever since I can remember.
Is singing your first passion?
Yeah, just because when
I was younger I didnt
understand the concept
of television and how it all
worked. I mean, I watched it,
but for me it was just this make
believe world. When I was
around 10 or 11 I realised that
people could actually be on
TV, and it looked like too much
fun not to want some part in it!
Of all the songs on your album,
Eyes Wide Open, which one is your
favourite to perform?
Thats a tough one. Eyes
Wide Open is a crowd
favourite which I love because
everybody puts their hands
together and its really fun. But
I also love Too Young because
I play it on piano at live
concerts and its really nice.
Speaking of piano, how many
instruments do you play?
Right now Im learning piano,
guitar, ukulele and drums. I

so guitar is really hard for me,

second album?
A lot of growth. I write music
that I would want to listen

What do you want your fans to get
out of your music?
I want them to know that
they arent alone in so many
situations growing up. Im the
same age as some of my fans
and I think its cool to be able to
relate to them. Also, I like to put
positive messages underneath
the surface of my songs and
I also think theres lots of
inspirational messages. Theres
lots I hope they take away.
What was the first concert you ever
went to?
It was either Hilary Duff or Kelly
Clarkson. I cant remember
which one was the first.

I hope that Ive grown
a few inches and musically I
hope I never stop growing and
creating. Music has brought
me happiness for 17 years, so
if I can keep doing that for the

that everybody is rooting for you.
What is one of your favourite
songs? Just one? Okay, if were

To be any good you have to be prepared
to practise often. A great place to start
is with a bunch of songs you know. Try
channelling Fifth Harmony or Taylor Swift, or

How did you guys come up

with the name, In Stereo?
Chris: We were writing our
first song together, "She's
Rock N Roll" and there was
a line we had in the song
"Hey Ho Stereo". At the
time we were still searching
for a good band name
and thought something to
do with the word "stereo"
would be cool. Jakob's sister
suggested "In Stereo" and
the name stuck!
How did the song, The Speed

of Sound come about?
Chris: We went into a
songwriting session with
singer/songwriter Hein
Cooper. We came up with
the song from scratch by
collaborating all of our
ideas together and it's one
of our favourite songs we've
ever written.
What has been some of your

highlights as a band since
The X Factor?
Chris: We've been super busy
since X Factor, but we've
loved every second of it.
The main highlights have
been when we tour. Being
able to travel all over the
country and have hundreds
of people supporting us
You guys are away from home

a lot, what do you miss most
when youre travelling?
Chris: We spend a lot of
our weekends and school
holidays in the studio and
on the road. We love it, but
of course we miss our friends
and family most. And when
were travelling, we miss

to time, it would be

their mobiles should keep
an eye out for the just
announced Mobius Final
Fantasy. Its from the
series legendary
developer Square Enix,

A few months back we

told you the sad news that
Disney is getting out of the
game making business,
and shutting down its
servers. Now we can
confirm that you will not
be able to swap new
creations or play online
with Disney Infinity from
March 2017. Doh!
Two new Sonic games

are due in 2017. One is a
fully 3D adventure that is
being kept a secret for
now. The other is a new
game done in the old 2D
platformer style, complete
with retro visuals and
gameplay. Its called Sonic
Mania, and will be out on
PC, PS4 and XBO.

Two big announcements and two great games makes it an exce
month to be a fan of Nintendos 3DS handhel
JUST ANNOUNCED
YO-KAI WATCH 2
One of last years biggest games is getting a
huge sequel on October 15 and were quite
excited. Building on the turn-based, collect-themall gameplay of Pokmon, Yo-Kai Watch 2 adds
a modern setting, more involved exploration and
a deeper combat system using the titular watch.
The watch allows you to go into battle with six
Yo-Kai who you capture via minigames while
exploring the streets which you must rotate in
and out of battle to make the best use of their
abilities, and to ensure they get a rest.
The story is set 60-years in the past, as the hero
(Nate or Katie) goes back to the first time the
Yo-Kai appeared in the streets of Springdale.
Were promised an increase of 200 Yo-Kai to
discover (for a total of 450), each offering a
unique look, personality and Soultimate Move.
There are sweet spots to find on each Yo-Kai, to
which can help you befriend them or prepare
them for a fight. Perhaps the most exciting
feature though is the four-player co-op!

FEDERATION FORCE
This classic, old-school RPG was first

released on the PlayStation back in 2000,
but has been given a makeover and
modern gameplay tweaks so it can be
reborn on the 3DS. The epic story which
goes for 100 hours sees the hero and his
friends trying to rebuild shattered
continents. They do this by visiting the
islands that remain and then travelling
back in time to stop the Demon Lord that
broke them into fragments. In between
battling, exploring and levelling, you can
travel by foot, boat, magic carpet or
skystone, recruit people to live in your
town and play casino mini-games.
Its retro, but theres a reason why they
call it a classic!
There are very few shooters on the

3DS, but this sci-fi action game does a
great job of making the genre not only
gorgeous, but plenty of fun. You play as
a Marine, sent to research planets with
three other soldiers. On a mission you
discover that the Space Pirates are
building a super-weapon and you must
find a way to stop them while avoiding
various alien threats. As well as actionpacked, but simple to master gunplay,
there are plenty of mods and items you
can use to customise your character. This
is handy in co-op, where you and three
friends can form a powerful team by
balancing your loadouts. If youre up for
something explosive, give it a go.
