Film Analysis
Select a film where miscommunication plays a large role and use concepts from the book
to analyze the ways in which the course concepts apply to the film.
A list of possible films is below. If you have another film you want to use you MUST get
it approved before completing the assignment.
2-3 pages typed double spaced standard font sizes and 1 inch margins. (no Courier

New or other large fonts).

Watch the film you have selected and write a paper using course concepts to examine the ways
in which language and miscommunication function in the film.
- If you summarize the film do so in no more than 3-4 sentences. The majority of the paper
should be your analysis of communication in the film and not summary of the plot of the
film.
- Use as many specific examples as possible, and discuss them in terms of the principles
found in your text.
Your paper should follow an organizational format that includes:
1. An introduction that indicates which film and why you chose it; the theory (or concept,
idea)/chapter you will be using along with a description of the theory(s), and a justification for
using to explain this film.
2. The body of the paper needs to focus on the application of the course material to the
communication and behavior in the film. I will evaluate how well you match up the
communication behavior examples from the movie to the definition and parts of the theory and
chapter. Use examples that include behavior descriptions and dialogue. This is the best way to
support your point.
3. Finally, the conclusion should summarize your main point; discuss what you have learned from
doing this assignment and how it applies to your life.
