ELECTRONIC LIBRARY SLOT COUNTER (ELSC) USING OPTICAL CHARACTER

RECOGNITION DEVICE
Overview
Knowledge when transferred to text can be immortalized. That is why, book
is ironically indescribable yet it describes almost everything from the core, beyond
extremes and in between. Furthermore, books when spoken are inseparable with
the archives or library.
Today, library of College of Engineering is congested as it can be, considering
the fact that population of engineering students increase exponentially every
semester. Thus, the size of certain facility (specifically library) should accommodate
the population of every student. However, because of the inevitable need of the
library facility, it is impossible to restrict students to enter the library. As a result,
library will not provide a conducive atmosphere for the learners due to unnecessary
noise created by
Electronic Library Slot Counter (ELSC) is a device that will scan the student
IDs that enters and exits the library. The stationary scanner will specifically scan
name, student number and course using an optical character recognition. The data
scanned is connected to a server computer that will automatically stores the data
login and out of the students. This data will serve also as a basis of the counter. A
LED display will be installed at the entrance of the library and displays the number
of slots available and full number of slots that can be accommodate. It will also
inform the students if the library reach the maximum number of slots.
This device primarily aims to help students to monitor the availability of the
library and mitigate the occurrence of congestion inside the library.
Complementarily, this will provide a better learning environment for the students.
As the modern technology rapidly rises, it is practical to be wise and in trend.

Overview
ANDROID-BASED SUMMER ENROLLMENT SUBJECT CHECKING SLOTS
Golden three it has been an iconic number that passes through the word of
mouth of the students of College of Engineering from Bulacan State University,
particularly ECE students. It is a term used to metaphorically describe a golden
ticket to advance for the next semester of their year while maintaining a no-red
record on their transcript of grades. However, due to the loaded schedule of an

engineering student, stumbling upon a failing grade is inevitable. On the contrary,

enrolling a failed subject(s) are made possible thanks to summer classes.
In exchange to a stress-free vacation, student will face a burning study
sessions instead to pass again the said subject. But the challenge will start, once
the student seeks for summer schedule of the specified subject. Summer classes of
a specified subject will only be possible if the preparations are all set. The subject
must be initially requested by the students in order it to be available during
summer. The request will be sent to the office of the dean and the approval will be
dependent to the number of students who requested the subject. The approval of
the subject will be later announced during the summer semester enrollment. The
problem lies in the certainty/possibility of the subjects being approved within the
period of approval. If only, the students know which subjects are being officially
considered, the number of slots available and its corresponding schedule, they can
properly plan a head of time which subjects they can enroll with accordance to
complete their loads in order to be a regular student or to find ease on getting more
regular loads.
To aid these issues, the researches came up with an Android-based Summer
Enrollment Subject Checking Slot. It is an application that will help students to view
the subjects offered for the incoming summer semester as timely as possible. The
application has an announcement board that will timely announce the changes for
the summer classes. It will also display the number of slots available per subject
and its corresponding instructor. It also includes viewing the updated standard
syllabi and course description.
This project aims to guide students in enrolling for summer classes. This also
aims to properly disseminate updated and legit/official information for the said
matter.
