The Marcum Family/Ministry News

October 2016

Dear Friends & Family,

Its a joy and privilege to share with you all again this month how the Lord is working; we are so thankful to Him. As we
th
write, we are in the middle of wedding week our daughter Joy and her fianc, Joshua Lee will be married on October 15 !
Our family is excited to be coming together for Joys special day, and some of Joshuas relatives will be flying all the way
from Korea to attend the wedding. We appreciate your prayers for Joy and Joshua as they begin their life together as
husband and wife. And not only will we have a newly married daughter & son-in-law by the time we write to you next month,
but our nation will also have a new president elect. We have been praying much about the upcoming election, and we will
be having a special season of three days of prayer & fasting here at IHOPKC from Oct. 31-Nov.2. We invite you to join with
us in prayer, or to set aside some special prayer times of your own. We so need the Lords guidance and His mercy on our
nation. May we pray as Jehoshaphat of old did, O our God, We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you. Once
again, thank you for reading and keeping in touch, we are happy to share some good reports!
-Love, The Marcums

Taking Ground!
I took this picture just a couple weeks ago in order to show you
an amazing victory for the Lord that has taken place in Overland
Park, KS. You see, in the foreground is the brand new sign for a
Christian pregnancy center, and in the background is thats
right Planned Parenthoods building and parking lot! Many of
you know of our involvement in serving alongside The Womens
Clinic (now renamed Rachel House) in Grandview, but more
recently over the past year or so, we have become involved in
prayer support and volunteering with another wonderful
Christian pregnancy center in the KC area Advice & Aid.
Advice & Aid began ministering many years ago at their first location in Shawnee, KS, counseling and rescuing
women and their children from the cruelties and trauma of abortion. Later, they were able to open a second location
in Overland Park, in a medical plaza located about a block from Planned Parenthood. Having the loving workers at
Advice & Aid a block away allowed sidewalk counselors to point women who wanted help to them, sometimes even
driving them there. But last December, the executive director of Advice & Aid, Ruth Tisdale, was impressed upon by
the Lord that He wanted them even closer! Ruth is a woman of prayer, and listens carefully for the leading of the
Lord in all she does. I (Jim) went to volunteer training two years ago with Advice & Aid, and have been on their
prayer team since that time, so I receive lots of emails from Ruth.
A series of God-appointed events opened the way for the move to a new building directly across the parking lot from
Planned Parenthood. Those of you who have been reading our newsletters know from Bettys journey across the U.S.
that the location of Christian pregnancy centers NEXT to abortion clinics is very strategic. In every city where this is
the case, the pregnancy centers impact and success in rescuing women and their babies is multiplied. Now,
whenever anyone comes to Planned Parenthood in Overland Park, the Christian answer and alternative will be
beckoning to them right across the parking lot. The first week Advice & Aids sign was up, they had not even moved
into their new building yet, but they received two calls from women who saw the sign from PPs parking lot and
called the number listed on the sign.
The front windows of the new facility look out over Planned Parenthoods entrance. There is a prayer chapel where
we will be praying regularly (especially in cold weather). The new facility has much more space, so plans to begin
STD testing and other services can go forward, opening doors for more outreach and ministry. We attended a
celebration banquet last week, with nearly 1,000 people in attendance. Ruth Tisdale shared one of the special
moments God provided for this move. A final board meeting was scheduled before the decision was made, and funds
were desperately needed to show Gods hand upon this move. One board member was listing ways the large amount
of funds needed might come in, and almost jokingly said, or if some anonymous donor passed away and left us an
annuity. The very next morning, Ruth received in the mail a letter she showed us the letter on the power point

it was from a lawyers office. Advice and Aid had received TWO (double blessing!) annuities from a persons will
whom none of the staff had ever met or been in contact with. They checked all their donor records and other contacts,
and this person had no previous contact with them. When they met with the lawyers, the amounts of the annuities
were generous and made the way for renovating and moving into their new location. Praise the Lord!

. Lord, raise up an Abby Johnson from Johnson County.

This is a prayer that my friend, Tony, first started praying a couple years ago while we were
on the sidewalk in front of Planned Parenthood in Overland Park (Johnson County), KS. We
recently heard Abby Johnson speak here in KC, which we want to share about. But first, let
us tell you a little about her. In October 2009, Abby Johnson quit her job after 8 years as the
director of a Planned Parenthood facility in Bryan, Texas, and two years later, she joined the
staff of the national pro-life organization, Live Action, becoming the groups chief research
strategist. She is founder and director of And Then There Were None, (ATTWN) a
ministry designed to assist abortion clinic workers out of the industry. To date, this ministry
has helped over 280 abortion workers and 7 abortionists leave the abortion industry. Abby is
the author of the nationally best-selling book, Unplanned, which chronicles both her
experiences within Planned Parenthood and her dramatic exit. She lives in Texas with her
husband and five precious children.
We heard Abby Johnson speak at a volunteer training luncheon for Advice & Aid the last week of August, held at Cedar
Ridge Christian Church in Lenexa, KS. She began her presentation by showing actual training videos used by Planned
Parenthood to educate their workers. One of her last jobs when she worked for PP was to travel to other clinics to train staff
on how to normalize abortion at their clinics and for their clients who come in. She mentioned that she had been at the PP
in Overland Park more than once, as this is a training clinic. We have noticed that on Fridays the lot begins to fill up with
cars from all over the U.S. and have suspected this location is used for training meetings. The videos we watched were
sickening and filled with smiling people in scrubs being taught how to tell lies. For instance, they are told to tell women that
babies have no sensory development and cannot feel pain until 28 weeks that is a lie. The scrubs are a smokescreen as
well, almost no staff have had any medical training.
Abby shared that when 40 Days for Life began at the clinic she formerly directed, everything changed. These were loving,
caring, normal people, and for the first time clients were going over and talking to the people on the sidewalk. She said,
The graphic pictures and accusing voices that others had used before had never helped anyone we workers liked it because
it just drove women into our clinic as a safe haven. She also told us how Planned Parenthood can report such a low
percentage of their services are abortions. When an individual comes for an abortion, all their visits and services are bundled
together and billed as one service code. But when anyone comes for any type of family planning, even if they are there for
just one visit, everything they receive is unbundled and counted as separate services. She said the true estimates are that
about 40% of Planned Parenthoods clients receive abortions, and about 50% of their revenue comes from abortion.
Abby told us some exciting news one of the workers at Planned Parenthood in Overland Park contacted her ministry in May
and has left the abortion industry! This woman said she looked up their ministry because someone on the sidewalk had called
out to her Go to abortionworker.com if you want out. They have many resources on their website and even offer a
stipend to help pay a workers salary while theyre looking for another job. Abby said that people who leave Planned
Parenthood often have a hard time finding another job with that on their resume. She also said the spiritual warfare is
intense, and that recently 3 different women who attended their healing retreats shared separate stories that each of their
houses had burned down during the time period they were seeking to leave the abortion clinic. ATTWN also does regular
mailings into abortion clinics, and said they have on average 15 workers contact them and leave every time they do a mailing.
We end the report by sharing that the woman who left the Overland Park PP is an African American. She said she felt
troubled telling women on the phone that if they were black, it is cheaper to have an abortion (because of government
subsidies). She said, I felt like a slave trader. After working with Abby, this woman now wants to start an outreach to
minorities who work at abortion clinics. She has started writing a pamphlet she has titled Plantation Parenthood. The final
thing she shared is that on Easter, ATTWN had done a mailing of Easter lily flowers to clinics across the nation, and
Overland Park received one. She said, When I left, I took it with me. It had died at the clinic, but shortly after I got it home,
it suddenly burst forth with a new green shoot of LIFE! Perhaps God is raising up an Abby Johnson from Johnson County!

FINAL WORD: We are in the midst of our Fall 40 Days for Life prayer vigil in Overland Park. Pray that we will
remain loving and bold on the sidewalks, and for unity in our midst. Well share a report next month!

Because He is worthy of it all,
