Objectives

1. To enable Riversidians to be more culturally savvy – greater


awareness of your Singaporean identity, as well as the different
cultures of the world.

2. To practice the RSp2Irit of Passion, Professionalism, Responsibility,


Integrity and Team spirit among Riversidians in an overseas setting.

3. To develop and display critical social-emotional skills such as self-


awareness, self-management, social awareness and interaction,
relationship skills and responsible decision-making.

Flight Details
• You will report to Changi Airport Terminal 3 at
6.30pm on 10 June (Thursday)
• SQ285 departing at Singapore time : 10 June at
9.10 pm
• Arrival in Auckland at New Zealand time:10.50
am (Auckland, New Zealand is 4 hours ahead
of Singapore)
• SQ286 Return flight on Thursday, 17 June
depart at 12.10 pm from Auckland Airport.
• Arrival at Singapore time on Thursday, 17 June
at 7.00 pm
• Flight time – approximate 11 hours

Departure Preparation
• Required items in hand-carry:
• 1 THICK Winter Jacket
• 1 Riverside Wind Breaker (for school programme and to be worn over
winter jacket)
• One THICK woollen scarf and cap
• One pair of gloves
• One pair of spare socks
• Lip gloss / throat candy / lozenges
• *Toiletries (in 8 cm by 8 cm ziplog bag. Liquids not to exceed 100ml)
• *Please pack your empty water bottle into your check-in luggage
• Light snack will be provided on plane
• Tidbits and instant noodles are to be kept in plastic bags and packed
into check-in luggage. You MUST declare upon arrival and be
prepared that they will be thrown away
• Muslim students, please prepare your own set of utensils if necessary

During Emergency:
• If minor ailment (you may self-medicate using ONLY MEDICINE that you brought from home)
• If you feel unwell even after resting, CALL the emergency number immediately to reach your teachers
• DO NOT consume any medication offered by your buddy or bought in pharmacies
• If unable to contact teachers, request to be sent to the nearest clinic or hospital and continue to contact your
teachers

During sightseeing:
• If injured or unwell, inform your group leader / first-aider/teacher immediately
• If lost, look for the information counter or landmark as given by teacher and wait there
• Do not walk alone at all times. Stay close to the group and inform your teacher & group leader if you need to visit
the toilet. Be alert always

General Rules
1. Follow the instructions and participate in all activities stipulated for
students. Do not pursue your own itinerary
2. Do not purchase items banned in Singapore eg: chewing gum or
pornographic materials
3. Monitor your expenses wisely and do not borrow from your home-stay
buddy or school-mates
4. Be friendly, courteous at all times but wary of strangers. Do not follow
strangers and leave your group without permission
5. Check that it is appropriate to take photographs
6. Keep your rooms neat and tidy at all times
7. Do not swap rooms or bunk with other students without informing your
teachers
8. Before using any facilities or amenities, check with the hostel personnel
if it is chargeable
9. Do not leave your home-stay residence or the student hostel on your
own and without informing anyone

August) at the temperatures ranging between
9 - 14 C

• As the weather is very dry, you are advised to bring


your lip gloss/hand moisturizer and apply when
necessary

• Pack warm winter garments and layer your


clothings

• Gift Giving Etiquette
– If invited to a New Zealander’s house, bring a small gift such as
souvenir or a book about your home country to the hosts
– Gifts should not be nicely wrapped up
– Please also present the host family with a copy of the school’s
newsletter, marketing brochure and a “Thank You” card
– Ask the hosts if Gifts received can be opened on the spot.
Otherwise, keep it without opening

• Dining Etiquette
– Wait to be told where to sit
– Meals are often served family-style
– Keep your elbows off the table and your hands above the
table when eating
– Offer to clear/wash the dishes/clean up for the host family
