1 Scope

This specification covers the basic requirements for halogenfree and mud-resistant low and high voltage power, control,

lighting, instrumentation and telecommunication cables.

This specification does not cover special Radio Frequency telecommunication cables or optical fibre cables.

2.2 Flame Retardance

The cables shall withstand the test specified in IEC 332-3. Single, earth and bonding wires shall withstand the test specified in IEC 332-1.

2.3 Fire Resistance

Fire resistant cables shall be tested accodring to IEC 331.

2.4 Content of Halogen

As a rule all cables shall be halogen-free according to IEC 754-1, maximum content of halogen = 5 mg/g.

For mud resistant cables a halogen content necessary to achieve diesel based mud resistance, will be acceptable.

2.5 Smoke Emission

During a cable fire smoke emmision shall be kept to a minimum. The smoke emission according to IEC 1034-2 with the following values:

2.6 Oil Resistance

All thermoset sheathed cables shall be suitable for an oil production installation. The oil resistance properties shall be demonstrated by a test according to IEC 92-359 Table II Clause 3.

For cables with thermoplastic sheath material there are no requirements for oil resistance properties.

2.6.1 Mud Resistance

Mud resistant cables shall be designed with sheathing compounds suitable for installation and operation on contact with MUD unless otherwise specified.

The MUD resistance properties shall be demonstrated by the following test procedure:

The cables shall be immersed in MUD at 70°C, and tested for changes of elongation at break, tensile strength, volume swelling, weight increase and oxygen index after 56 days.

2.7 Core Identification

2.7.1 For the 250V cables the identification of insulated conductors (cores) shall be in accordance with lEC 92-375, Paragraph 14.2, Method 2: Colour Code.

2.7.2 For the 0,6/1 kV cables the identification of insulated conductors (cores) shall be:

2.9 Sheath Marking

The sheath shall be clearly marked with:

Cables up to an including 250V shall have a GREY sheath, except:

Cables for Intrinsically safe signals shall have a BLUE sheath.

Mud resistant cables for Intrinsically safe signals can have a BLACK sheath but then with a BLUE stripe painted along its entire length.

Mud resistant cables for Non-Intrinsically safe signals can have a BLACK sheath but then with a GREY stripe painted along its entire length.

Cables for O,6/1kV shall have a BLACK sheath.

Cables for HIGHER voltages shall have a RED sheath, except:

Mud resistant cables can have a BLACK sheath but then with a RED stripe painted along its entire length.

2.11 Cable code designation

A cable code of 2- 4- letters is used to describe the construction. Additional abbreviation for instrumentation cables: Collective screen= (c) f Individual pair or triple screen= (i)

4. REQUIRED INFORMATION AND DATA

4.1 General

All information and data shall be in English language and in SI units. The supplier shall list all the following information together with the quotation.

5. INSPECTION AND TESTING

5.1 General

All cables shall be routinely tested in accordance with relevant IEC publictions. All cables shall be delivered with an original test certificate with reference to the different tests.

5.2 Type Tests

A complete list of all type tests granted shall be furnished with the quotation and shall include:

- Flame retardancy test (IEC 332-1 and IEC 332-3)

- Fire resistancy test (IEC 331)

- Compliance with IEC 92-353 and IEC 92-354 for low voltage and high voltage power cables respectively

- Compliance with IEC 92-3 for 250V instrumentation and telecommunication cables

6. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY

6.1 General

Cable shall be delivered, if not otherwise specified, in 250, 500 or 1000 meter lengths.

All drum lengths shall be continuous. Cable or conductor jointing

in any form is unacceptable. .

Cable ends shall be fitted with heat shrink end caps to prevent entry of moisture into the cable.

Cable drum to be mechanically protected.

6.2 Cable Drum Identification

Cable drum shall be indelibly marked as follows:

- Company

- Drum No.

- Cable type and dimension

- Length of cable on the drum (m)

- Total weight of cable and drum (in kg)
