CALIBRATION AND VERIFICATION OF EQUIPMENT

5.0

PROCEDURE
5.1

Equipment Calibration and Verification Process

5.1.1 Equipment requiring Calibration or Verification will be recorded into the

Calibration and Verification Log, F_004. This log contains at a minimum:
serial number, description, next calibration or verification frequency.
5.1.2 Equipment shall:

Be calibrated or verified at specified

intervals (EON INSTRUMENTATION, INC. will maintain a +/- 60 Day period
for Calibration / Verification Due Dates based on company needs or
unless specified by a Customer Requirement), or prior to use, against
measurement standards traceable to international or national
measurement standards; where no such standards exist, the basis
used for calibration or verification shall be recorded;

Be adjusted or re-adjusted as necessary (by Calibration Service);

Be identified to enable the calibration status to be determined

(Calibration Service or EON INSTRUMENTATION, INC.s Calibration
Sticker);

Be safeguarded from adjustments (e.g. Tamper Free Sticker) that

would invalidate the measurement result (by Calibration Service);

Be protected from damage and deterioration during handling,

maintenance and storage within EON INSTRUMENTATION, INC.;

Recalled to the requirements of the Calibration and Verification Log,

F_004.

5.1.3 The President is responsible for the following specific Calibration

requirements:
EON INSTRUMENTATION, INC. does not perform in-house Calibration;
Use Calibration sub-contractors that are either ISO17025 accredited
suppliers or equivalent;
Review Calibration Certificate results. In the event of that Calibration
Certifications indicate a failure refer to Step 5.2 Calibration/Verification
Alert.
Maintain records of calibration certificates per SOP-002, Control of
Records;
Ensure only Calibrated items shall be used to perform 1st Article or
Final Inspection or any other inspection of deliverable product.
Increase Calibration Intervals:

CALIBRATION AND VERIFICATION OF EQUIPMENT

Calibration intervals can be increased to double (twice) the

interval period based on three periods of previous acceptable
calibration results in a row.

Example: Gage #123, which is normally calibrated every

year, has not failed for 3 years in a row. Therefore, Gage
#123 new calibration interval is 2 years, etc.

Decrease Calibration Intervals:

Calibration intervals shall be decreased to one half (1/2) of

interval period based on three periods of previous unacceptable calibration results in a row. Note: Unacceptable
results have to be corrected by External Service before
equipment can be used by EON INSTRUMENTATION, INC..

Example: Gage #123, which is normally calibrated every

year, has failed 3 years in a row but, corrected.
Therefore, Gage #123 new calibration interval is 6
months.

5.1.4 The President is responsible for the following specific Verification

requirements:
Verification is to be conducted using Calibration and Verification Log,
F_004 and identified with a VERIFICATION label.
Equipment verified CAN be used to perform 1 st Article or Final
Inspection or any other inspection of deliverable product;
Verification is to be performed per EON INSTRUMENTATION, INC.
instructions documented within the Calibration and Verification Log,
F_004;
In the event of that verification results indicate failure refer to Step 6.2
Calibration/Verification Alert.
Maintain records of verification results per SOP-002, Control of
Records.
Increase Verification Intervals:

Verification intervals can be increased to double (twice) the

interval period based on three periods of previous acceptable
verification results in a row.

Example: Gage #123, which is normally verified every

year, has not failed for 3 years in a row. Therefore, Gage
#123 new verification interval is 2 years, etc.

5.1.5 The President is responsible for ensuring that computer software used to
monitor or measure deliverable product requirements be confirmed prior
to initial use and reconfirmed as necessary.
Such computer software shall also be recorded into the Calibration and
Verification Log, F_004.
5.2

Calibration/Verification Alert

5.2.1 The President is responsible for taking the appropriate action (both on
equipment and product affected) when equipment is found not to conform
to requirements.
5.3

Reference Only - Equipment

5.3.1 Equipment will be identified with a REFERENCE ONLY label.

5.3.2 Equipment used as REFERENCE ONLY does not require either
Calibration or Verification and therefore excluded from the Calibration or
Verification process.
5.3.3 REFERENCE ONLY equipment shall not be used to perform: 1st Article
Inspection, Final Inspection or any other inspection of deliverable product.
5.3.4 REFERENCE ONLY equipment can be identified in any method (label,
sticker, permanent marker, etc.) that indicates REFERENCE ONLY.
5.3.5 REFERENCE ONLY equipment is NOT required to be recorded onto the
Calibration and Verification Log, F_004.
