VI.

HISTORY OF THE PROBLEM

At the age of 12, he started using marijuana. He was strongly influenced by his
friends in school when he was still in Grade 6 by giving him a free sample. Due to this
circumstances, he used to cutting classes in school and forced to lie to his parents to
hang out with his friends. He also used it sometimes before going to sleep. The client
also joined gang in their community who are involved in anti-social activities like
riots. When his father found out that he stopped going to school, he was scolded and
told him to cease his relationship with his friends and go back to school. Even though
his studies was put on hold, he was making a livelihood as a tricycle driver to help his
family gain an income.
The client was driving his tricycle at 9 p.m. when he received a textfrom his friends
to have a session with them at Wellspring Catalunanbasketball court. When he arrived
at 10 p.m., they gave him a shabu, it is his first time that he used that kind of drug and
is in state of euphoria. Suddenly, the barangay officers arrived to patrol the area and all
of his friends are surprised by this turn of events. He tried to escape but he cant move

14. His court hearing will be on August 17, 2016.

CURRENT FUNCTIONING OF CLIENT

When I first saw the client, he was meek but an approachable person. I asked his
peers about him and they told me that he is a funny person and makes joke with his

friends in the center. His house parents told me that he is doing well and cooperate with
the task that has given to him. He is also active in participating the activities in the
center. The clients Behavioral Shaping Tools is Talk to because of not caring for his

Rehabilitation Center for Drug Dependent (DCTRCDD) and come back home to his

IX.

ASSESSMENT

This is a case of an 18 years old resident who violated against R.A. 9165 using
drugs. The client was being influenced by his peers thats why he has been exposed to
vices like drinking liquors, smoking cigarettes and using illegal drugs. He learned this
kind of behavior because he was being swayed by the people that surrounds him which
have same behavior. The client has been doing this kind of things due to the absence of
his mother. The absence of his mother at the early stage of his life made him seek for
belongingness and security outside of his home and he got it from his peers who mostly
have time to spend with him.
Given the companionship and momentary fun they brought to him, the client, at
first did not mind the negative influence they have on him. When he did, it was already a
little too late. Furthermore, he was not able to have the proper guidance while growing
up since his father and brothers was always out working and his sister had been
focused in her duties at home, hence, there is no one to check on him and monitor his
activities. This analysis is supported by Abraham Maslows theory on Hierarchy of
Needs in which he gave emphasis on the five levels of needs that every human being
should meet to be able to function well, grow fully as a person and realize his/her innate
potentials. The Physiological, Love and Belongingness, Security and Safety Needs,
Esteem Needs and Self-Actualization Needs. Essentially, when one level is not
satisfied, the others would be greatly affected and so is the individual himself.
In the clients situation, though his physiological needs like food, clothing and shelter
are provided for by his father and brothers, but his need for love and belongingness is
still not fully compensated and that may be the reason why he could not feel any
security, particularly inside their home, which every person yearns to possess. With that,
he has resorted to the comfort and company of his friends and made matter worse.
The theory that may apply to this matter is Albert Banduras Social Learning Theory.
People learn through observing others behavior, attitudes, and outcomes of those
behaviors. Bandura said that Most human behavior is learned observationally through
modeling: from observing others, one forms an idea of how new behaviors are

performed, and on later occasions this coded information serves as a guide for action.
In this circumstance, the client is surrounded by many influential models such as his
friends. He makes them as a model to observe and imitate their behaviour.
X.

RECOMMENDATION/EVALUATION

Based on the assessment above, the client was engage in illicitdrugs because of the
less supervision of his family and he was additionally affected by his companions. The
client is need of Intensive awareness on the effects on abusing drugs. Thus, he is
recommended for further treatment and rehabilitation at DCTRCDD for him to be able to
cope up his drug dependency and be able to reach out to the people in the community.
Also, it is also important to enhance his social functioning to become a productive
member of society.
If the client will be able to complete his treatment and rehabilitation and successfully
discharged from the center, he will be advised to pursue his studies and graduate from
his desired course in college. He must also avoid being influenced by his previous
companions and be a role model for them. Furthermore, he must prioritize his family
and value the opportunity that they spend time together.
