COOINDA COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE

Welcome to Cooinda Community Health Centre (CCHC) we are the health care
centre for the city of Cooinda. With a large rural population of mainly older Australians,
and many new families in our new growth centres, we cater for a wide diversity of age
groups, ethnic backgrounds, and cultural groups, speaking at last count over fifty
community languages.
What services do we provide?
We provide some primary health care (in co-operation with local GPs), community
nursing service, and a wide range of allied health services. Our community nursing
service (including midwifery, child health nursing and palliative care services) operates
from our premises 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ensuring primary health care is
always available. In addition we have regular visiting sessions from both our local
GPs, and also from some visiting specialist doctors, including psychiatrists.
Our range of health services is provided on a sessional basis, and includes the
following: Counselling; Dental Therapy; Occupational Therapy; Orthoptics;
Physiotherapy; Podiatry; Social work; Speech Therapy; Health Promotion; and
Environmental Health. In addition, we are one of the major regional bases for
extended care in the community for our older people, and serve as a base for one of
the regional Crisis Assessment Teams for assisting with psychiatric emergencies.
Our co-located ambulance service serves not only our city but also the surrounding
region. Having this service within the same property assists our ability to serve you
appropriately. Of course we also ensure that we maintain close co-operation with the
local emergency services police, CFA, and SES and have frequent training with
them so those of you who volunteer with one of these organisations would already be
familiar with us!
How do I get there?
The map on the reverse of this flyer lets you know exactly how to get to us by car. We
have ample free public parking but please ensure you park only in the designated
public parking areas the reserved spaces are there so that our workers and
emergency services can help you as quickly as possible. If youre using public
transport, we are 500m from Cooinda Railway station if youre coming from the
centre of the city, get out of the left (northern) side of the station, and turn left
immediately onto Station Street. Walk 150m to where youll see the sign to Cooinda
Community Health Centre at the intersection of Station St with Wannamoora Rd, where
you turn right. Were 350m up the hill on your right hand side. For the frail and elderly,
the local free community bus operates from 10am til 6pm Monday to Friday, and has
pickup points on Station Street opposite the railway station, and at CCHC.
